AceGamez
Doubtless the best flight-sim ever made; startling realism, excellent graphics and addictive gameplay make for an award-winning title.

PC Gameworld
The most authentic, challenging, and beautiful pre-jet age combat flight sim ever made.

PC Gamer
The finest WWII prop sim of its era. Perhaps even of all time. [June 2003, p.80]

Computer Games Magazine
The new pilots are smarter, making for more challenging - and more convincing - air combat. [June 2003, p.76]

GMR Magazine
A hardcore simmer's delight, with superb flight physics and enough detail to please the most finicky realism fanatics, including minutiae such as adjustable fuel mixtures and radiator controls. [June 2003, p.70]

Forgotten Battles doesn't make the sort of huge impact that the original game did, but, despite its faults, it's generally a very worthy successor.

This is easily one of the best combat flight sims you can get and that's even if you already own the original IL-2.

GameSpy
The superior graphics and flight modeling are unmatched, and game's many solitaire and multiplayer options give it long life on the hard drive.

FiringSquad
Provides the ultimate combat flying experience, and no perfect place to play it. The dynamic campaign may be good, but it’s not compelling. The multiplayer venue is hampered by a factious community, and terrible matchmaking interface.

Computer Gaming World
This is either a great standalone expansion pack or a slightly underachieving sequel. [June 2003, p.96]

Yahoo! Games
There's no denying that "IL-2 Sturmovik" is a great sim and therefore Forgotten Battles is a great sim by extension. As a sequel, however, it's a bit underwhelming.

Isn't really a sequel no matter what it says on the box. It's an expansion pack. Gamers who already own "IL-2 Sturmovik" may balk at the price, as there's simply not enough new here to justify the purchase.

By far and away the best WWII combat flight sim to date. This sim has over 150 flyable aircraft now and shows no signs of slowing. Outstanding.

M Lancer gave it a10:
Best flight sim of all. Fantastic atmosfere and excellent flight models and AI. Includes an excellent mission editor.

Barry K. gave it a 9:
Hands down the best WWII combat sim on the maket today. The graphics are better than IL2 and the AI is vastly improved..very challenging. Online play is superb.

Bryan S. gave it a 9:
