Summary
Colonial England. Under a certain amount of… duress… Jack takes on a job which will not only cause him a great deal of trouble, but also bring to light the answer to a mystery out of his distant past. A lack of money leads Jack to accept a charter to take a British secret agent to mysterious “Tooth Island”. When Jack’s ship shatters on the mysterious island’s cliffs on arrival and the secret agent quickly becomes a meal for a monster in the jungle, Jack is soon left to cope with the situation on his own. “Tooth Island” is ruled by the strange Doctor T, who is cultivating man-eating plants and has his own dastardly plans for the British Empire. And why does he seem to know Jack, who can’t remember ever having been on Tooth Island? What are Doctor T's plans? And what does he know about Jack’s past? And then there’s the young and naive Amanda, who is filled by an almost fanatical drive to prove her worth. In the beginning the young lady is employed by Doctor T, and part of her task is to track Jack down and take him prisoner. It doesn’t take long before she begins to wonder if she is really on the right side, or if she shouldn’t join her opponent, the charming Captain Jack, instead. A hair-raising hunt across the length and breadth of the dangerous island finally airs the mystery surrounding Jack’s past and leads to a spectacular showdown with a dark and deadly enemy and his nefarious henchmen. Jack Keane is the most enjoyable point-and-click adventure I've played in a long time. It will appeal to almost every adventure fan, as the puzzles gradually get harder, while the game successfully reproduces the vibrant, humorous and slick atmosphere and antics of beloved classics of this proud genre, like Sam & Max and Monkey Island.

Bows deeply to the classics like Monkey Island or Maniac Mansion but more importantly it still has a good, unique feel to it. Although Mr. Keane's adventure is an old-fashioned point'n click adventure the fresh environments, tricky puzzles and witty humour make it a great adventure game. It's not the best this genre has to offer, but it's a nice try. Thumbs up for Deck13. [Apr 2008]
Play.tm
It's an enjoyable romp of a point and click adventure, it manages to maintain a fun sense of humour, and it is the perfect antidote to the domination of instant gratification in first-person shooters and real-time strategy games.

Other than the few issues that were previously mentioned, Jack Keane is a wonderful adventure experience that should bring back fond memories of old school adventure games.

The story itself is well done, even though there are some jokes that fall flat.

The game provides some seriously needed fun in the otherwise stale point-and-click genre. I liked what the developers did here and I hope they do it again.

It's a pleasant enough adventure, and it'll take you somewhere around 20 hours to complete it, which makes it a nice value, but the writing is a little lazy, and the game isn't as funny as you might expect, and so it's nowhere near being in the ballpark of the Monkey Island games, which is where it wants to be.

Jack Keane is addressed to those who are more attracted to the ridiculous humor that LucasArts were able to produce before endlessly milking the Star Wars cow, rather than somber, logic-oriented gamers.

The problem with Jack Keane is that it's just not funny. The game tries too hard to be something its not. [May 2008, p.78]
Boomtown
A feature that is touted impressively then lets down over the course of the game is the animation and general cinematics.

Traditional point 'n' click that smacks of the "Monkey Island" series. [Apr 2008, p.85]
Play (Poland)
Quirky humour, eccentric characters and strange combinations of everyday items - it's (yet another) return of the classical adventure in nicely rendered 3D environments. Pity that the wit and fun starts to gradually dry up around the midpoint of the story and some puzzles turn out less logical than expected, but all in all, this game is definitely worth playing. [Apr 2008]
GameSpot
Jack Keane is a colorful and cartoonish adventure through the 19th century British Empire.

While games like Jack Keane keep surfacing, the point-and-click genre will continue to defy those that have long since written it off. [Apr 2008, p.123]
Adventure Gamers
These flaws aside, Jack Keane is a lengthy game, light on difficulty, but never anything less than fun.

Most likely, players will find themselves having a love-hate relationship with the title, but ultimately they will be delighted by its varied charms.

If you loved doing Fed Ex quests in World of Warcraft, imagine having to do nothing but those from beginning to end, with uninspired, sometimes annoying characters and overly clichéd performances throughout, and that's Jack Keane.

For all its comical charm, Jack Keane does not quite reach the heights of the games that inspired it.
Jack Keane is a good adventure game if you are looking for some nice puzzles to spend your time with. The game doesn't convince us when it comes to the character, because that's a thing in which adventure games should be the best. A big environment and hours of gameplay makes the game worth playing, but it really misses a soul.

Overall, Jack Keane is a rather fun adventure game, even if it does suffer a little in minor details. If you’re a fan of the genre at all, it's well worth the effort.

Jack Keane is an admirable effort which is compromised by a half-assed and inconsistent focus on the quality of the various game elements.

The Indiana Jones adventure that spent too much time at IKEA. [Apr 2008, p.86]
Eurogamer
That's Keane - a potentially enjoyable game, broken by terrible performances, and puzzles that make little sense.

Andreas S gave it a6:
Some of the puzzles were designed really bad but it still is a nice and funny adventure game with a bit outdated graphics and very well done character animations in the cutscenes.
Gabriel U gave it a9:
It was my first adventure game since... Since... Truly, I don't remember when was last time when i've played good, oldfashioned point&click game. Good story, great personas, who can really touch our hearts in deeps (I'm talking of course about Jack and Amanda. And Montgomery). Quests are in most cases logical, but I've had to see solution few times (wedding). Maybe my lack of playing adventures games recently caused my opinion. Maybe it's time to discover Sokal's games? Yes, i haven't played those yet.
Mike L gave it a10:
This game is funny and it rocks. It reminds me of the Monkey Island games.
roy war gave it a0:
I didn't like this game, i thought it would be a great game watching the preview trailer that i almost went and bought it. I downloaded the demo first and luckily i didn't buy it. It's a very bad game, the voice overs are so bad and the whole game is not worth $26 if i were to ever buy this game id never pay any more than $5, the whole click and point is very annoying.
Hypershadow gave it a7:
Decent game.. worthwhile I guess if one likes adventure games and has played the rest... shouldn't be compared in the same breath as Monkey Island series.. despite the lack of scenery (which I like in adventure games) I found the Sam & Max series much more fun as it had better dialog and clever writing. Pros: - Nice changes in scenery. - Serviceable graphics. - Easy to move around/navigation. - Some puzzles are interesting I guess. - Puzzles aren't hard so the game can be finished without ever having to resort to a walk through. Cons: - Uninspired characters (mostly cheap stereotypes). Even the main character is "normal" - The mission is pretty boring (stopping a guy trying to control the tea market) - Missing cutscenes when solving parts of some puzzles that make one think, "Wait a minute, that didn't make sense, how did that work" (although these are kept to a relative minimum) - Uninspired dialog that at times tries to be funny, but I never once found myself laughing... the closest I came was "Potato Face".. A lot of dialog is repetitive.. doesn't recognize you've ask it before so you often hear the same boring stuff over and over which takes away the mood/atmosphere. After a while I just found myself skipping the dialog as I stopped caring. - Statue'esqu characters during dialog or analyzing items (most notably that Amanda girl) - A bunch of small things. 1) Common sense things that should be able to be done during puzzles, but can't "I can't reach that item" yet there is a ladder or steps right there.. Climb up the F#$# ladder! Yet later as a 2ft kid you can reach something 10 feet high no problem. 2) Outdated avatars. "Oh no they took my knife" yet you play half the game with your character clearly still carrying his knife. 3) Outdated dialog. Quest related to a certain dialog remains and you start talking about stuff you already did like you haven't done it. 4) Encountered a nasty bug that froze during a cutscene and instead of re-doing 45 minutes of gameplay I quit and never finished the game (it was about 3/4ths of the way through in Dr. T's office near a meat-eating plant).

It's a really good game! Recommended for people who loves games like Monkey Island!
