Summary
It is the third decade of the 22nd century. Unemployment is endemic, boredom is universal and only the Judges can prevent total anarchy Empowered to dispense instant justice, they are judge, jury and executioner all in one. The most feared and respected of all the Judges is Dredd he is the Law! In the darkest depths of Mega-City One a group calling themselves the Death Cult are devising a fiendish plan to free the evil Dark Judges from their holding chamber in a Justice Department penitentiary. Meanwhile the Judges of PSI Division have foreseen that the Big Meg will be blighted by a terrible plague. Soon enough, as predicted, there are outbreaks of vampirism across the city. Is this the return of some ancient, forgotten evil? [Vivendi Universal]

Arrests are fun for about two levels, and then you notice the same few sayings keep repeating when you slap the cuffs on perps.

Certainly not one that will turn heads or be remembered by anyone, other than fans of the series, after a few weeks. Wait for the bargain bin.

To be brutally honest, you are as imaginative as dry, unbuttered toast. [July 2004, p.65]
Yahoo! Games
There's a very limited, repetitive number of enemy types (whose quickly depleted voiceovers get annoying), and the core combat is solid, but uninspired (circle-strafe, reload, repeat).

With the First Person Shooter marked being overcrowded and the standards being set pretty high by some excellent titles, it’s difficult for any new game in this genre to stand out of the crowd without outstanding graphics, realistic physics engine, above-average AI for the enemies or the hype to boost its sales. Unfortunately, Judge Dredd doesn’t have any of those.

Dredd-fully underwhelming. [July 2004, p.75]
GameSpot
It's a short, simplistic shooter that's not worth even its budget price.

Fans of the fiction will finally appreciate a style that keeps the faith, but will wonder how this game could have done its source material the same sort of disservice the decade old movie did.

Rebellion has taken a sci-fi world tailor-made for an FPS game and created a title that feels like it could have been made six years ago.

Your main objective is the bane of the modern FPS: follow a little blue arrow while shooting things, with the odd escort or protect responsibility thrown in to make you turn around occasionally. It's average justice dished out to the licence, but nothing more. [Christmas 2003, p.121]
Maxim Online
But for the crimes of middling graphics and dull-as-dirt game play, we sentence Dredd vs. Death to eternal burial in the discount bin at Costco. Court adjourned.

A total waste of a fantastic licence - incredibly anti-climactic, a mere six hours long, full of uninspired levels and identikit enemies, and achingly tedious to play. Once finished I had to quickly uninstall it lest I ever accidentally clicked on that hateful icon again.

Jason S. gave it a7:
Good, clean, ultra-violent, trashy fun. The innovations in the law enforcement aspect are largely inconsequential. Straightforward and simple running and gunning is the order of the day and the game is all the better for it. Megacity One is a beautiful, ugly world, a really lovely place to kill things in. Judge Dredd comes across as a pretty nasty guy. That bothered me at first. Oh well, I was having great fun busting zombie heads.
Matt B. gave it an8:
If you're a fan of Judge Dredd then check this game out, if you don't know the comics then it'll just be another middle of the road FPS to you.
Jamie gave it a1:
Couldnt even get through the tutorial, one of the worst of the worst.
Mart R. gave it a 3:
Dredd style gains the game two points, the other point is out of charity. Look elsewhere.
Paul X. gave it an 8:
Just started with this game. I really don't see why the harsh critic given to this game. Frankly, I hate FPS games except for a few no nonsense fun like Serious Sam series. Judge Dredd almost fill this void with it's straight foward gameplay mechanic..and i love that blue arrow!! The last thing i want is to wander aimlessly dungeons after dungeons just so that it can be defined as "open ended". I just want to shoot monsters with a big gun!!! And this game does it pretty well. Also, the enemies AI are quite nice especially the vampires since they jumps about and don't sit around like a duck for you to shoot. Me, i'll take this over most FPS including Halo, COD etc etc.
Richard M. gave it an 8:
Firstly I gotta say I haven't finished this yet so this is a mid-play review... But I'm absolutely loving it. The world of the comic is recreated brilliantly and the game is full of the dark humour you'd expect from a Judge Dredd title. Is my review tainted by the fact I grew up reading 2000AD comics? Probably.. but thats the point of a licensed game.
