The system of ducking behind cover and maneuvering to shoot above or around it works perfectly, delivering non-stop action and excitement.

This latest Medal of Honor proves to be the best of the series, and one of the deepest and most challenging World War II shooters I've ever played. [Nov 2007, p.68]
PC Gamer UK
We've seen wide open singleplayer FPS games before, but they've never had this pace or this lust for physical player freedom where every building and every rooftop has been designed to work like a bullet playground. [Oct 2007, p.68]

The series has been truly moved into the next generation with a step up in visuals, sound quality, and wide-open level design. Thankfully, the gameplay will seem familiar and will be quickly mastered by anyone who's played the series before.

The most enjoyable FPS narrative based WWII shooter I've played in years, and I loved Call of Duty.
The title has great gameplay and presentation, but the issues that plague it — the sudden inclusion of out-of-place enemies and the woefully unbalanced multiplayer portion —tend to drag down the overall enjoyment level of an otherwise spectacular game.

Medal of Honor Airborne is an enjoyable game, due in large to the development team's efforts to make a game that isn't just another World War II shooter clone. It won't take the shooter world by storm, but it is certainly fun to play.

It's not quite as open ended as we'd hoped it would be, but the taste of freedom has whet our appetite for more, and the weapons upgrades keep gunplay fresh throughout the campaign.

Medal of Honor Airborne delivers the most compelling MOH experience in recent years. If you’re looking for a fun, chaotic WWII game this Holiday season, Medal of Honor Airbone is a great choice.

Airborne is not a ground breaking game but it does take a new look at World War II first person shooters. Dropping in and deciding where and what you want to do first adds to the overall carefree style of the game and begins that arduous trek toward freestyle gaming that is just a step around the corner.

Medal of Honor: Airborne brings some very nice ideas to an already dead genre. Without the embarrassing enemies and the harsh difficulty level this could be the best MoH game to date. [Sept 2007]
PC Zone UK
It rewards a determination to enjoy what it has to offer. But equally, the game's finer moments could equally pass people by. [Oct 2007, p.56]

Medal Of Honour: Airborne may well be as gung-ho as a cigar-chomping drill instructor and as shallow as the pool of blood left by one of your expendable buddies, but it doesn’t profess to be anything more than an exciting and enjoyable week’s worth of FPS action.

No linear levels, no historical correctness. Medal of Honor: Airborne needs getting used to, but then it's World War fast food - easily digested, very entertaining and over much too soon.

Despite my few complaints, Airborne is still an excellent game. From start to finish, I was absolutely hooked and couldn’t stop playing.

This is the most original first person shooter I have come across since Doom 3's blend of horror and action.

Nonetheless, despite some of its shortcomings, I still recommend MoH: Airborne to shooter fans. With a couple of patches that tweak the AI and collision detection, one should overlook the lack of more single-player content as the gameplay experience you'll get is rewarding enough to warrant a purchase.

This is not gaming perfection or a must have title that will be remembered for decades, but if you like war romps, and you long for the feel of Frontline or Underground, pick up this brilliant war game.

Though we have seen many games like this, the choice of dropping in at any location on the battleground is a nice change from the linear maps most are used to.

Medal of Honor: Airborne is certainly an improvement on what many perceived as a dying brand. It’s not up there yet with the likes of the impending Call of Duty 4, but with a little more innovation and improvements to the online side we can certainly see a return to grace for the once mighty series.

Traditional FPS, but it still feels fresh - only the WWII setting and theme tune reveals this is another Medal of Honor game. [Nov 2007, p.46]
IGN
Medal of Honor: Airborne, while not perfect, is definitely the best game in the franchise to come along in quite a while.

The lack of narrative finesse and the toning down of the scripted events was a good call. It’s not quite the open world shooter that was promised, but it’s definitely a step in the right direction.

There are some memorable action scenes in Airborne, along with some great visuals and a top-notch presentation. But be careful, because it's over before you know it.

Medal of Honor: Airborne sprinkles minor moments of brilliance though a minefield of questionable game design. Fans of the series will experience some memorable gunfights, but if you’re a casual gamer looking for a great World War II title, stick with Call of Duty.

Medal of Honor: Airborne is a game that needs time ploughed into it to reap the fill awards. If you’re looking for something that will reinvigorate your experience of WWII FPS’ then look elsewhere. But if you are looking for an excuse to take the same old fight back to the Nazis’ then here is your answer.

I found the controls very sloppy for an FPS, and almost downright unresponsive during short periods when there was a big explosion or several grenades going off at once (seemingly independent of whether or not the explosion was actually in my field of view at the time).

If you're tired of the genre, Airborne won't do anything to change your mind, but if you're looking to fight for the Allied cause yet again, it's a worthy tour of duty.

Lousy AI balancing and assorted cheap tricks constantly remind you that it's never quite a fair fight; the designers are always lurking behind the scenes, ready to pull the rug out from under you at any time.

Levels lose the false drama of scripted sequences but take on something much more satisfying. Everything that happens in Airborne’s dropzones, from shameful deaths to GI Joe heroics, feels like it’s because of you, and it usually is. [Oct 2007, p.92]
1UP
Similarly, Airborne's standout feature -- land where you will and fight your way through objectives in whatever order you want -- is less about reliving history than saving a sagging series for which decision-making has meant "where to shoot" and "what to shoot with."
If you can get past the frustrating gameplay mechanics, Medal of Honor: Airborne can be an enjoyable experience. The presentation is fantastic and the multiplayer is surprisingly fun, but unfortunately Airborne’s new features feel like a desperate attempt to get one more iteration out of this aging series.

All in all, Medal of Honor: Airborne brings a sense of authenticity and realism with a tinge of the arcade to a simulation of a daring period in American military history.
Airborne was supposed to be a WW2 masterpiece, but it failed to be nothing more than a disappointment.
The game certainly has its moments and is by no means a lost cause, but in the end the game is only strongly recommended for World War II shooter completists and long standing fans of the Medal of Honor series.

Ian M. gave it a5:
I hate giving games a low score but I think that this game is fundamentally flawed. There are some great things about this game. The duck and shooting. The recovering health after you get shot. When you shoot the enemy they figure out where you are at in the battle. The Italian mission which I think is the most fun mission of the entire game. That said here are some things that bother me. The game is kinda glitchy. You can tell the EA released the game in a rush. There are pieces of the map that look like a clipping problem. Anyone familiar with the days of Doom will know what I mean. Enemy soldiers don't act like a intelligent group. Although fun it gets kinda old to blow off someones head and then have man after man replace the last one. You have scattered body piles around the battlefield and I'm no history buff but I doubt that Germans fell in piles on the WWII battlefield. Next the sniper rifle is maddening. If there is a fence in the way the bullet hole will appear floating in space on the fence. in front of the German! I sometimes have to fire many times to kill a enemy soldier even though it looks like I have a clear head shot! Lastly the most frustrating part of the whole game is the save system. I know that EA probably did this so that it would be more realistic. But If I wanted realism I would play Call of Duty and get my head blown off. How do they justify saving in the middle of the mission as unrealistic while you are picking up medikits and ammo pack conveniently situated thru each level!? This checkpoint save system sucks. It really does. First you have to trigger a specific checkpoint to save to that level. If you get an early checkpoint no dice. You get to parachute in again. yah. The level I played today I made it through 80% of the level and was killed. I restarted at the point I was at and then in the latter half i was shot dead by a German Sniper. Where do I start? Again the stupid parachute! After I had 2-3 upgrades on my guns! So I nearly finish the level and I have to do it all again. This one flaw takes so much fun and excitement away from the game. You can be duking in out in an intense firefight and boom you die and jump out of an airplane again! I don't even play after that I quit the game and exit. This is the one flaw that will stop people from ever wanting to finish out the game to 100%. I know after I win I will take the game and onto the shelf it will go.. EA needs to insist on a large level of play testing with these MOH games.
Cameron C. gave it a2:
The medal of honor series is dead. I am so sick of these games coming out. They are all the same and yes, there are better WWII games out there that are more fun to play. Dont buy this game. It is not worth it.
B. V. gave it a9:
My best first taste of the U3 Engine, spectacular gameplay and pace. Some folks watch war movies to immerse themselves in the environments of WWII and gain a new respect for the men who devoted their lives to the ouster of oppression and facism... This is the first WWII game that did the same for me. This game is certainly worth playing.
Jim M. gave it a7:
Overall I find this game to be challenging and fun. There are a few 'strange' AI quirks. If you are a fan of WWII first person shooters, you'll probably enjoy this game. I'd love to know how much better the game looks with the Physx card.
Cameron S. gave it a9:
Ok, I realize this game has many issues: No clan tag support in multiplayer, not too solid Lobby screen, very long install, graphics card support issues). However, I realize that often times these things are overlooked and that is why, as has been mentioned by EA staff members, a patch is already underway and has been before the game was released based on beta comments. All this aside, this game is great! To those who said it brought nothing to the WWII genre...are you kidding? Or maybe you haven't actually jumped out of a plane yet. With the option to parachute just about anywhere on the battlefield, it brings diversity to the game. But I guess you all like starting in the same point (wherever the last checkpoint you reached was). As for the sound...I have a decent 5.1 surround setup, but am using integrated mobo sound, and yet I STILL give the sound a 9. The sound of stones crumbling under your feet, wood creaking, parachute flapping and wind, bullets and yelling all in your face; what is not to like? As for the game play with respect to the realism aspect: yes the guns are not the most accurate. Let me remind you, its 1942, not 2142. And have any of you actually fired a 1945 U.S. Issued .45, or a Thompson? They kick like the devil! I will agree that the story line is not nearly as solid as one would except from the greatest war the world has ever seen. And as for the AI; I am not saying I am a world class FPS player, but i often had a bit of trouble pushing my way foreward and many times was saved by the duck and cover method. And for the graphics, well, if you want to play games in this new day and age of graphics/physics technology, you may need to step up your game and get a good card (or even a decent one like my Radeon X1950XT, it ain't the best but it plays the game on medium-to-medium-high superbly, makes the game look Amazing, and only cost about $200 now on NewEgg.) Overall this game is by far one of the better WWII games to be release in the last year and a half! Despite the problems, that will be fixed through an upcoming patch, you need to get this game!
T S gave it a9:
I found this game to be refreshing compared to the last MoH title I tried out (Pacific). Enemies took cover, used suppresing fire and out manuevered me. I spent some time just watching the allies and axis clash through the binoculars. Its amazing to see AI acting so lifelike. Now, there are problems (Hence the 9 rather then 10). There are a few bugs in the MP system and the first few levels of the game are a joke. The system where you redrop instead of having to load a new game is interesting and allows for the "special" drops, but doesn't really help with realism. The medal system for firearms is fun, trying to get each gun up to the top is not too challenging, but being stupid enough to charge a pillbox with a pistol provides for some crazy moments. I wish they added more weapon customization and did more to make a story out of the game. I felt no connection to my squad mates like I did in CoD. One of the most interesting parts of this game was aiming down the sights. The gun bucks and moves like it would in real-life, but more importantly there are a few more options for taking cover. You can't move, but you can duck, stand, and bend either direction without having a seperate set of keys. EA, put out more titles like this, please.
Terry D. gave it a9:
I'd give this game a 10, but that's reserved for titles like Halo, Half-life 2, Far Cry, etc. But it’s close for one reason - combat. The tactical situations are very well thought out and the solutions are opened-ended. This makes Airborne MOH a very cool and very exciting game. One of the best. Funny thing is one of the critics (GameSpot) noted that it was irritating that your squad mates would get in your line of fire - this guy is missing the point. In the chaos of battle that kind of thing happens - a lot. As does rifles and machine guns kicking heavily when fired (another complaint). I think its call "realism" and there’s nothing wrong with bringing a little of that in.
