Antagonist

One of the greatest games ever made, and if you haven't played it, you're denying yourself nothing but fun.

90

CheckOut

Combining action and adventure isn't an easy thing to do, but Konami has pulled it off beautfiully with Metal Gear Solid.

90

IGN

The port is great, the game is fantastic, and despite no multiplayer support, the sheer size of the game (if you include the VR Missions) means that your money will be well spent.

GamePro

All in all, despite the less than stellar PC graphics, Metal Gear Solid remains an intense gaming experience with a gripping story and heart-stopping action.

This is the definitive version of Metal Gear Solid and it's only available on the PC. Go tell your console owning buddies and watch 'em cringe.

Daily Radar

If you're one of those hardcore "PC Only!" types that don't own a console, you'll definitely want to shell out the 35 smackers for this baby in order to find out just what the hell everyone was talking about two years ago.

Electric Playground

One of the best action-movie games on any platform. Some frustrating camera placement and a save-game that takes some getting used to take very little away from the excellent sneak-and-peek gameplay.

With the enhanced visuals, the wealth of gameplay provided by both MGS and VR Missions, and the simple fact that MGS is fantastic title in the first place makes this a pretty smart buy for any PC gamer.

Eurogamer

It's also rather obvious that the developers realised towards the end of the game that it was going to be far too short, resorting to the old trick of forcing you to backtrack across large portions of the game world (no less than three times!) to make it seem longer.

Computer Games Magazine

May have been the first game to blaze the "stealthy action" trail, but the irony is that more recent PC offerings (such as "Thief") have since done it better, which leaves this port showing its age.

What Our Users Said

The average user rating for this game is 9.3 (out of 10) based on 20 User Votes

Note: User votes are NOT included in the Metascore calculation.

Chris K. gave it an8:
I wonder how outdated these votes are. The PC version of Metal Gear Solid for the PS1 is no different in story or audio. Everything is kept the same, however, graphics may be boosted up a bit. But really, what I like about the game is the extra features. Mines came with a second Disc which contained many different missions for a couple of categories. VR Training... Mystery... Ninja... etc. etc. The storyline in both games will entertain you, scare you, or make you laugh.

Wayne M. gave it a10:
This is undoutdably the best game ever produced i would do ant ting to play this game agin my brother destoryed my copy this this legendary game.

Bill C. gave it a5:
Looks like the old ps game.

The Two gave it a 10:
The best game ever. The only thing that makes this game get away from perfection is graphics, everything else is flawless. And is much better than it's sequel.

Just had to rate gave it a 9:

Amir A. gave it a 10:

This game is by far the greatest game ever! It combines action/ adventure and sheer espionage all into one beautifully crafted game The game has not only a compelling and original storyline, but you get to know the characters. The game is worth every dollar.
