Summary
In a city where information is heavily monitored, agile couriers called runners transport sensitive data away from prying eyes. In this seemingly utopian paradise, a crime has been committed, your sister has been framed and now you are being hunted. You are a runner called faith - and this innovative first-person action-adventure is your story. Flow is what keeps you running, what keeps you alive. Mirror's Edge delivers you straight into the shoes of this unique heroine as she traverses the vertigo-inducing cityscape, engaging in intense combat and fast paced chases. With a never before seen sense of movement and perspective, you will be drawn into Faith's world. A world that is visceral, immediate, and very dangerous. Live or die? Soar or plummet? One thing is certain: in this city you will learn how to run. [Electronic Arts]

Mirror's Edge is a videogame that definitely deserves a try, also on Pc. Its short length is the only complain we can mention about the campaign, because it's an incredible innovative title with a very powerful graphical side and an addictive gameplay proposal. A nice launching for this new saga that replaces the word 'brief' with the word 'intensity'.

Mirror’s Edge works like a charm with keyboard and mouse, too. Parkour above a shining beautiful city is a nice change of pace after normal shooters. Hopefully we get to see more games like this in the future. [Jan 2009]
DarkStation
Mirrors Edge is an intense and intensely enjoyable experience from top to bottom that manages to capture a very interesting gameplay element and perfect it.

Mirror’s Edge is still a unique game in every way. The story is captivating, the action is exciting, and the graphics are even better on the PC than they were on the consoles. That’s not enough for a higher score, but every PC-owner who wasn’t been able to experience the challenging and thrilling experience Mirror’s Edge has to offer, should do it now.

There's depth here that you'll only discover hours into time trialling a single stage, and as we said, no other game in recent memory comes close to being as cool. We can't wait to see what Faith gets up to next.

Console ports are usually a waste of time, but that's certainly not the case with Mirror's Edge. In fact, the PC version of the game offers even more than its console counterparts. Are you looking for something original and innovative to play on your PC and you aren't afraid of heights? Just try Mirror's Edge.

After two months of waiting, Mirror's Edge has come to the PC. This version is identical to the consoles, but with a few changes to make it more astonishing. The use of the NVIDIA PhysX engine makes the game more realistic and the graphics are smoother thanks to the use of AA filter. One of the most innovative game of 2008 is now even better in 2009.

You either love this game or hate it - all depends on whether you manage to get a grip on the controls. Because deep down this is not a shooter or a platform game - it's a totally novel racer with an amazing atmosphere. You'll need all your confidence in the abilities of Faith to run some crazier routes. [Feb 2009]

Mirror's Edge shines on the PC due to superior controls. At times it can be very harsh towards amateurs but rewards proper practice and skill to a great degree. Audiovisual masterpiece and a polished experience, yet doesn't quite match all the expectations and offers little content for the price.

Even with its flaws in gameplay and its short durability, we have to reckon it as a different game, amazing in some aspects, very interesting in others, with a hypnotic design and, most of the time, a fascinating experience every gamer should try.

The concept, the presentation and the execution of Mirror’s Edge makes it worth the money on paper, but it all feels like a slice of delicious cake, layered cream on top and the obligatory cherry, which leaves you hanging when you realize there is no more cake beyond that.

Either way, this is a fine port from console to PC, one that brings everything from the original experience and fits it nicely into a PC gamer's hands. The actual game might be frustrating and tedious at times, but it's worth it if you've got the cash to pick it up.

While its elegant controls, visuals and audio weave a dreamlike tapestry that its animated cut-scenes do their best to eat away at, the whole is an experience you'd be remiss to let fly by if you missed it on consoles.

We've waited so long to have Mirror's Edge on the PC but all this time has been used by EA to deliver a better graphical experience and wonderful physics effects. Sadly several of the major problems are still in the game.

Despite being a fan of the concept since the very first trailer, I can’t help being a bit disappointed about how this games turned out after all. It’s, however, still a nice title and the pretty solid port to the PC including some nice new features makes this version the one to get!

A thrillingly kinetic scramble through gaming's prettiest Orwellian dystopia. It has the feeblest fight sequences, yet its greatness shines through. [Feb 2009, p.94]

A great, innovative experience delivered to gamers from a first-person view like never before. Highly recommended if you missed this one on the consoles.

It's really, really good and you should play it, but damn, it could have been superb.

Again, the PC version itself is entertaining. Still, it would've been even better if the developers put in additional content - a bonus chapter, anything really.

This is well-made, well-developed title. The end result isn't the new gold standard, but the idea and implementation sure are good.

The beautiful visuals look even better on the PC and the controls are smart and responsive. There are some flaws, though, in particular the short play time, some stiff level design and the overall potential for frustration. But if you manage to go with the flow, you will find Mirror's Edge to be a thrilling and unique gaming experience.

Mirrors Edge is a remarkable game. Graphics and game experience satisfy the gamer of today in a very pleasant, sometimes exciting way. Only the “trial and error”-principle can sometimes frustrate.

For all the things that go wrong towards the end of the game and despite a lacklustre plot and short length, Mirror's Edge is a game that I can't help but enjoy.

Mastering the game's in-body platforming is an urgent thrill, beaten down less violently here under the auspices of our old friends keyboard and mouse, and stands out from the homogenised interfaces of modern first-person and platform games.

Sure, there are a few quirks, but Mirror's Edge is a well designed and well presented elaborate game. And it's fun, too. It's plays a bit like Tomb Raider, just faster and without ruins. Not a perfect game, but perfectly designed and it stands out from the mass of uniform games like a white skyscraper.

If anything, the only problem with Mirror's Edge is its relatively short story, which is only increased by the lack of a multiplayer component that does its gameplay justice. Nevertheless, Mirror's Edge is a solid and innovative title that takes the FPS genre and reminds it that things don't always need to stay the same.

Hopefully Mirror’s Edge will set the standard for the future like the first Tomb Raider game did years before and we can look forward to a whole bunch of next–gen (real) first person games. [Issue#174, Jan 2009]

It’s fast, original, and beautiful – everything you should expect from a holiday blockbuster. If you’re easily frustrated by difficult games it might be wise to rent it first, but be warned; the beauty and addictive race modes might pull you in for a purchase.

A great game at its core, marred by a bevy of minor and major annoyances. A lot of potential, but to truly work this game has to be refocused and partially reworked from the ground up.

If you like an environmental puzzle game with some combat mixed in and like a little of betrayal on top, Mirror's Edge is the game for you. If you are looking for a game that will keep you hooked for days on end, this game is definitely something you can skip over.

Mirror’s Edge is a lot of good ideas mucked up by poor implementation and an apparent lack of play testing.

I did have to fiddle with patches, drivers, and tweaking the nVidia control panel. A lesser machine may also not give you visuals as good as out of the box 720p on the 360 or PS3.

You'll get a pretty solid singleplayer experience for your money, as well as the chance to experience that crazy "parkour" fad with the normal bone-breaking falls you would endure - but don't expect much beyond that.

Mirror’s Edge feels like an 8-hour ad for another, much more thought-out product. It has many things that blockbusters are made of: stylish visuals, elegant stunts, and great music. All it needs is to firmly land on its feet.

Much as I was thrilled by the action, I was equally nonplussed by the lack of emotional connection to the characters and the plot. [Mar 2009, p.64]

The reason the PC version works better is simply down to the keyboard and mouse controls, which allow for much faster and responsive movement.

Mirror's Edge isn't a terrible PC port by any means, but has some unique technical issues that put it a step below the console versions.

Mirror's Edge is many things: invigorating, infuriating, fulfilling, and confusing. It isn't for everybody, and it stumbles often for a game that holds velocity in such high esteem. But even with all of its foibles and frustrations, it makes some impressive leaps; it just doesn't nail the landing.

Mirror's Edge is an impressive feat as a realistic first-person simulation of parkour across the towering roof-tops of a dystopian future. Unfortunately it's also fairly dull and frequently doesn't do enough to motivate the player to continue, this is not a game I was thinking about when I wasn't playing it.

Andrés M gave it a6:
Controls are unconfortable and games is quite repetitive. PC conversion is awful.
Con R gave it a5:
Some incredibly figity controls make this game one of the most annoying and infuriating games i have ever played! While it is also the only game i've ever played like it. It's fun... sometimes and rewarding even less of the time! It's quite hard from the camera angle to actually get what the character is doing all the time. Which makes improvement in a particular area of the gameplay just pure chance. Be prepared to get stuck on area's and be frustrated. Good innovation, poor execution.
Thomas H gave it a10:
Amazing steal for 5 bucks off steam, I still would pay 20 for it. Was totally worth it, lots of action, the close action, the climbing, it was all amazing. The story was interesting aswell. I love the envirmoent the most, it was bright, sunny, very clean, if you're a Portal fan and a assassins creed fan, and you haven't played this, Then you are MISSING out! PhsyX is great for nvidia users, I had ATI tho... but still.. it was worth it. I wish i had a Nvidia card tho to take advanage of the PhsyX
Tan gave it a10:
Tom G pretty much summed up everything i wanted to say about this game. It was very much a puzzle game and probably should have been advertised as one. Also complimenting the beautifully rendered realism still with an artistic flair, was the plot of the game which I thought was pretty good. This is an amazing game that I would recommended to anyone with a fairly good computer, as I have heard some complaints that that game stops to load to often, although this has never happened to me. The concept of the game is also so unique as most mainstream games are all fps's. Lastly, This game was most certainly a steal for $5.00 on steam, and like others would have paid more if I knew how great it was. Soo...BUY IT!
[anonymous] gave it an8:
This game is undeniably cool and really original. The graphics are also great. But it suffers from one thing; short amount of gameplay and really bad replay value. I think this should be played because it's something you want to have experienced and it's brought the platform genre to a whole new level.
bz tang gave it a9:
Great game, especially for getting it for only $5 on Steam, much much better than I expected. Pros: -Beautiful atmosphere, artwork and graphics -unique gameplay makes you think using a fully three-dimensional perspective and using wall-runs as another element -pretty decent story and neat animated cutscenes -chases are great and well paced -I actually liked the music, it was different and somewhat memorable -Can't wait for the sequel! Cons: -Some parts are slightly frustrating -weapons are not quite the caliber of that of a standard FPS, and I only learned that you could pick up dropped weapons halfway through the game lol
Tom G gave it a9:
This game really exceeded my expectations. It was a crazy steal at $5. I would've paid $20 or more if I'd known it was so good. No console port problems. Outstanding graphics - very stylized, atmospheric, and with meticulous attention to detail. PhysX provides nice detail that helps breathe life into the city. The sound design was flawless. I encountered no glitches, except for getting stuck in one place I wasn't supposed to jump through. The relatively short length was good for me, as I have a lot of games to get through these days. I was reminded of Portal at times. This is primarily a puzzle game, but the combat that's in there is pretty satisfying too. Some parts were a bit frustrating but once I learned to look sideways during a wallrun I was all set. The story wasn't anything epic but honestly it was better than stories from many other otherwise good games, and it was illustrated nicely and it fit with the rest of the game. I enjoyed this game a lot more than the Half-Life 2 episodes that took more time and money. Can't wait for Mirror's Edge 2 on the PC!
