Summary
Myth is arguably the first real-time strategy game to put the player in a true 3D landscape, with an emphasis on tactical battlefield action rather than base construction. Myth also happens to be one of Bungie's most successful pre-Halo releases, and shows off the company's range and ability in genres outside of first-person shooters. A single player mode features an engrossing and enjoyable plot, with you battling the evil and eponymous Fallen Lords, their evil leader, Balor and all manner of undead creatures, but Myth's multiplayer is where it really stands out. Bungie.net's game-matching technology has been much-emulated since, and at Myth's release, was something truly special. Multiple game modes including King of the Hill, Steal the Bacon and even co-op added huge variety to what was an outstanding and standard-setting game - and it still is. If ever an older game deserved another visit, it's Myth, with a huge, loyal and highly motivated following. [Bungie]

Another great feature of Myth is the terrain: it's truly three-dimensional... The level design is excellent, and the different types of terrain require very different strategies.

You must learn the best way to attack, what formations to use, where to position your men and when to fight or run. You'll master the mouse and keyboard controls in no time, but mastering the single player game will take time.

If you have the system to handle this game, and especially if you have a good 3D board, grab it right now, don't read another word. This is by far the best medieval warfare game I've ever played, and the added bonus that it happens to have a killer interface, a brilliant storyline, and dazzling graphics just adds a few more medals to Myth's already heavily adorned chest.

It may not be as expansive as other real-time strategy games, as it focuses solely on combat, but Myth: The Fallen Lords is bloody, good fun, especially when you move into the multiplayer arena.

When you combine the excellent multiplayer support, the great graphics, and the dramatic gameplay improvements offered by the 1.1 patch, you get a truly remarkable real-time strategy game.

The graphics and realism are breathtaking, if only the single player game wasn't so difficult! Experienced gamers will certainly get their money's worth out of this one, but novices should run screaming.

Although the game is hands-on, all your troops display a remarkable level of intelligence and can generally be relied upon to act on their own in a discerning manner. No more straying into the wilderness, taking on enemy divisions single-handed or walking backwards into a swamp.

Cody K. gave it a10:
I’ve followed Bungie’s efforts throughout the years and have seen a company grow through intelligent offerings. Though Marathon’s engine was just another FPS, they managed to present an interesting story and pushed a simplistic gaming engine beyond its limits. With Myth, Bungie brilliantly merged a compelling story and a revolutionary physics engine with very intense strategic battle situations. In your typical RTS, you have to go through the paces of building your home base and upgrading your units and structures… doing basically the exact same thing, level after level. Not in Myth. You are presented with a situation that really matters to the story and given a fixed number of units. It’s up to you to use your wits and resources effectively against the enemies you encounter, the terrain, and the mission objective at hand. Tactics are everything because… you can’t build more units. Troop formation, patrolling, defending, blitzing, timing, flanking, luring, ambushing, scouting, retreating, position… all these elements are crucial to winning the game. Myth is even more amazing in multiplayer. Again, Bungie took a cool game concept, simplified it, and focused brilliantly on the elements that mattered. A true classic.
