IGN
The multiplayer component and hardcore difficulty settings ensure you won't be done with this one anytime soon, unless you just tire of NASCAR itself.

Despite the annoying bugs NASCAR Heat is now the new King of NASCAR racing games. Excuse me. I think I hear Lynrd Skynrds' White Knuckle Ride on my jukebox. I've got to go beat the Heat.

I just wish that the details of NH were as good as the foundational components such as the physics and graphics engines. The yellow flag bug will ruin a great offline race.

Easily the best NASCAR game available... until "NASCAR 4" comes out in February.

Definitely flawed, but still a serious threat to Papyrus' stranglehold. [Dec 2000, p.145]
Adrenaline Vault
Aside from the two new racing modes, Beat the Heat and Race the Pro, the best part of the gameplay in NASCAR Heat is the thrilling pack racing experience, driving door-to-door and fender-to-fender against your opponents.

The lack of a matchmaking service surely will make racing against real-life opponents a little difficult but visually, the game is spectacular and with most of the licenses in place, NASCAR Heat is an enjoyable ride.

Heat offers a brutally honest driving experience, but with simplistic damage modeling.

It's not for everyone, but those who spend their afternoons daydreaming of driving at 200MPH in an oval will not be disappointed.
CNET Gamecenter
A comprehensive and versatile stock car title that should appeal to all levels of PC drivers.
Computer Games Magazine
NASCAR Heat's glaring shortcomings rip the believability out of the game after its graphics and driving suck you right in.

Decent graphics and sound, and a full complement of NASCAR drivers and cars, gives the game initial appeal, but questionable gameplay ensures limited long-term usage.
