Summary

Requiem: Bloodymare introduces a world where the misuse of science and magic has warped the natural world into a twisted vision of death. Set in the world of Ethegia, players take on the role of the Temperions, beings created through genetic engineering and arcane rites to engage in bloody combat with the walking nightmares stalking the land. Using the Havok engine, Requiem: Bloodymare brings to life a visually stunning realm where fallout from generations of scientific and mystical warfare has polluted the natural world and given birth to horribly mutated monsters. The battles between players and these grotesque creatures are rendered with intense sequences of bloody and gory graphics. Requiem: Bloodymare also brings several game mechanics that set it apart from the rest of the MMO market. The time of day is an extremely important factor for players under the Nightmare System with incredibly powerful creatures awakening to terrorize the world at night. To defeat these challenges players will be able to draw upon the DNA System and the Beast Possession System. Players use genetic engineering to modify their DNA to obtain characteristics and abilities nature never intended. The mystic arts enable players to possess and transform into different bestial beings with extraordinary abilities. [Gravity]

PC Gamer

Despite being free to download and play, Requiem is fully featured, and arguably better than many subscription-based MMOs out there. [Oct 2008, p.60]

Unless the DNA coding and beast ability is something that really excites you, you could take it or leave it.

Michael C gave it a2:
It's uninspired, reptitive, and I've seen this so many times before. The overall driving force behind the game is kill things to get better at killing things - it's about as deep and meaningful as a 'massage' from a Thai 'escort' in a seedy hotel in Bangkok. I've bashed away at this game for over 6 hours tonight, trying to find something to redeem it - Oh yeah, it's got lots of blood (so, it'll be a big hit with all you vampires out there). The Havok engine is woefully badly used and the whole game feels tired, stale and familiar. There are some fairly intriguing ideas (warping into a raging beast for better killing power at higher levels and after completing some hideously complicated quest) but that's probably not going to be enough to get me to play it for that long. Overall it's just another game where your 'character' (and I use the term loosely as most of the in-game avatars have no character at all and are more similar to production-line mannequins for all their lack of individualism and idiosyncratic features) is nothing more than a status symbol - this game is definitely one for stat-whores, rank-queens and online boy-racers looking to soup up their weapons and armour to the nth degree so they can grab a screenie of that 'killer hit'' when they get a maximum critical hit so they can post it on the forums and then furiously masturbate over their own inflated sense of importance in the grand scheme of things. I'll rate this game 2/10 for the graphics - it gets nothing for anything else.

Trtione gave it an8:
Beta is very smooth and polished; typical Korean-style MMO with a few interesting twists. Nicely gory and good use of Havoc physics in combat. Interesting though incomprehensible backstory. Limited character customization and skill trees. A far more polished product in beta than Age of Conan is at release.
