It may not be a radically new Resident Evil 5, but the PC version of the game still manages to hold its own with an improved control scheme and extra Mercenaries mode.

A wildly entertaining third-person shooter that fully realizes its potential on the PC with vastly superior graphics, better controls and an epic co-op experience. [Nov 2009, p.66]
GameZone
Resident Evil 5 isn’t exactly perfect, but it’s so close, none of its flaws upset the experience as a whole. Buy it for yourself, but bring a friend for maximum enjoyment.

Resident Evil 5 is a must-have game. It isn’t without minor flaws, but they do little to undermine everything that Capcom did so very right.

There a few things that we do not like on the PC (controls for example). But this conversion is a lot better than the catastrophe that Resident Evil 4 was on the PC.

As a game, RE5 has its share of faults, but as a port, I have to say that this is one of the best games converted from console to PC I've ever seen.

The five months gape is, only partly, justified by the excellent port made by Capcom. On the other hand it's still the same product seen in March, but on a different platform, that for technical superiority manages to squeeze even more the excellent graphic engine. Whether an action or survival horror, in fact the truth is in the middle, grant it the benefit of the doubt and you'll surely be satisfied.

With a whole heap of content to unlock, a campaign that begs to be replayed and top of the line production values there's very little to be disappointed with.

That's how a good port has to look! The power of the PC is well used, but not spent without use, and a few extras spice up the game. Especially in two-player-mode Resident Evil 5 is great fun.

There’s not much new here. But if you have a decent PC and have a desire to check this one out, you can rest easy in the knowledge that it’s a pretty decent conversion.

Resident Evil 5 doesn’t exactly add much novelty to the series, but it’s a heck of an action game nonetheless. Audio-visually it’s a gem and the puzzles and the survival aspect create the needed diversity. The bosses are impressive, to say the least. Capcom has finally discovered how to port a console game to a pc in a decent way. This game comes highly recommended.

It is a further footstep in the u-turn tried with the fourth episode, however it risk to get angry the players which are searching for an experience more channeled in the rules of the genre.

It aims for deep unconscious fear, and not for the superficial Goosebumps. The truth is probably somewhere in the middle, but whatever the conclusion, Resident Evil 5 is surely the best nightmare of the year, one you can experience with your eyes wide open.

Resident Evil 5 is “only” an amazing game, a label that the 90% of the third person shooters would want for themselves. The cooperative mode is just sensational and the story mode is plenty filled with non-stop action. The huge amount of contents will make you forget the lack of any kind of innovation in its concept.

Resident Evil 5 is a fun and frantic evolution of RE4's breakthrough gameplay and the series' horror themes.

As the name suggest, expect more enemies, and a harder fight for survival.

Resident Evil 5 should be the perfect type of game to use with 3D Vision glasses, and now we can confirm that it is. With upgraded textures and effects, new Mercenary modes and character costumes, and superior control options, it’s another outstanding PC outing for Capcom.

A PC port done right. [Christmas 2009, p.88]
InsideGamer.nl
The translation from the consoles to the PC is a mission done well by Capcom. Although the extras aren’t that interesting and you see the loading screens a bit too long, the PC-version has a lot of positives sides as well. And the way you control the game is perfect, and it does contain some extras as well. Resident Evil 5 is a much more polished game on the PC, that makes everything looks a bit better than on the console.

The true value of this release is how it represents another glorious step forward for the ongoing lean towards of co-operative gaming in the industry. In that sense, it’s a huge success.

Silly and linear, but still remains compulsive desire the repetitive gameplay. [Nov 2009, p.96]
Gameplanet
More than six months after the fact, PC gamers can get their hands on Capcom’s latest instalment in the Resident Evil series. Significantly optimised graphics, improved aiming, better inventory management and new extras arguably make this the finest version of the title but if you’ve already played it on a console, there’s not enough here to warrant another investment.

Tense, scary and fun. [Issue#25, p.53]
Meristation
One of the best ports that Capcom has managed to PC in the last years. Resident Evil 5 offers some real action, amazing graphics and interesting co-op gameplay. The PC version allows you to explore new ways in Mercenaries mode, 3D graphic technology and stunning cinematics.

Where did this famous horror go? RE5 still could have been a great action game. If only the controls were suited for the action game. Co-op mode is worth trying you can curse level design and A.I. all together. [Oct 2009]

a k gave it an8:
While not a bad game, Resident Evil 5 is a step down from it's predecessor, Resident Evil 4, in just about every respect (except of course the eye-candy.) Only buy this game if you plan on playing co-op with a buddy, it's just not that good in single player.
J. Gault gave it a4:
When the original Resident Evil was released on the Playstation, it was ranked one of the most frightening games ever made. Skip ahead almost twelve years to the release of Resident Evil 5 and take a look at where the series has gone. Over time, Resident Evil has lost its horror feel and replaced it with an action-adventure element that makes it feel more like Uncharted rather than RE. Let's take a look at the game itself. Gameplay is lame, a watered down RE4 style at best, controls feel too ackward and messy to be playable, and the graphics look like they belong in a game from 2007. However, the biggest problems I had wtih Resident Evil 5 is its atmosphere and how the game is "played." In past Resident Evil titles, everything was creepy and was set at night or in a disturbing setting, but not in 5, oh no. The game is for the most part sunny and ~*alive!*~ It doesn't feel at all like Resident Evil AT ALL. At least 4 kept the distrubing and creepy feel, even if it had a cheesy Hollywood style ending. The worst thing about this game is that the game is far too simple for an RE game and makes no effort even to try to be like the previous titles. There are no zombies, you can barely carry any ammo, there is no merchant or place where you can keep your supplies, and instead of being a "full" game, there are levels instead, which are obviously made for casuals who only want to get achievements or trophies. All in all, the game isn't worth $20 or even $10 for that matter. I'd recommend staying as far away from this one as possible. Only get this if you haven't ever played the Resident Evil series. If you have and haven't yet played anything after Code Veronica, I'd recommend 4 over this hulking pile of piss-poor casuality any day.
Vinnie S gave it a6:
I played a couple other RE games before, not a staunch fan of the series, but I don't really hate it either. The biggest problem with this game is the controls. You can't move and shoot at the same time, and if that sounds like something from 5 years ago then join the club. It's like making a turn based RPG in this day and age: shows lack of progress. Despite this, the game is designed with this serious handicap in mind, so it's not too big a deal, but it's definitely annoying and takes getting used to (unless you've played a lot of other RE games). I didn't think it was really scary or had a great story, but it was interesting enough, so w.e.
Gordon F gave it a0:
The controls alone make this game a waste of time. I can't believe the user reviews are so high.
Coiney D gave it a2:
This was a very disappointing purchase indeed. I'd not recommend it. It shouldn't have been ported to PC, and should have remained console, or perhaps just arcade... The game mechanics are poorly conceived, the story and writing are sub-par, and the level design and graphics bring nothing worth remaking about. I have two serious, serious problems with the game: a) you can't shoot and move at the same time... it's seriously ennoying to evade enemies, then stop, turn around, set up your gun, and shoot...; b) it just doesn't feel right rolling into Africa and killing a bunch of Pigme tribesmen for hours on end... zombies or not.
john e gave it an8:
A fun game with beautiful graphics. it is lacking the fear and the puzzles of a more traditional resident evil game, but maybe thats ok as long as its not the new format for the entire franchise. I gave it an 8 because the story and characters were well developed, for a video game, and because Sheva is the hottest video game character ever developed. Plus the character models, and animation were done very well. The controls are sluggish, but they make up for that by making the monsters some what sluggish. The epic monster, boss battles are really nice. Plush the monsters look really good. Would have given it a 10, but it was not that scary or difficult. Plus the last boss battle was week compared to the other boss battles in the game. Shouldnt the last boss be the hardest and coolest boss?
