By all indications, Runes of Magic is only going to get bigger and better. Although it’s available for free, if you love the game, you should feel obligated to support the developers by visiting the Item Shop. If you’re a purist, keep in mind that you can purchase items that are purely cosmetic. Consider that your price of admission to a wonderfully enchanted world.

Granted: This is not WoW, but Runes of Magic is the ideal entrance into the MMORPG world, since it’s completely free.

Have you been playing World of Warcraft for such a long time, that streets in Stormwind or Orgrimmar have been named after you? Why not try a free alternative? Runes of Magic is really impressive. There is no pressure to buy anything, it's easy on beginners and at the same time a complex game thanks to the rune system and dual classes.

Runes of Magic blatantly copies almost everything from World of Warcraft and makes it completely free to buy and play. The dual class system works great and the crafting and item enhancing are very addictive. The world and story are very cliched and boring, however. Runes lacks the polish of subscription based MMO’s, but as a free to play game it’s nice occasional fun and doesn’t need to directly compete with big market tittles. [May 2009]

Runes of Magic states a great opportunity, if you like role-playing games. It’s free and really one of the best MMORPGs out there.

What’s important is that Runes of Magic is an excellent starting point for players who haven’t tasted MMOs before, thanks to its free2play model. Players who will most certainly move up to pay2play titles after they’ve seen and done all there is to see and do in RoM.

At its worst, Runes of Magic is a solid, by-the-books affair. At its best, Runes of Magic is a surprisingly deep game and is a great showcase for what a free-to-play MMO can be. Check it out; what do you have to lose?

The MMORPG market is as wide as ever, although most of the public is monopolized by Blizzard, but there are alternatives for those who get tired of World of Warcraft and want to try another worlds, or prefer to join the online RPG world without spending a cent to try and see if they like the game.

Runes of Magic won't win a price for originality. If that's something you can look past, Runes of Magic will get you going for hours and hours. And there is no excuse for not trying because the game is completely free. Just download and play.

For me, Runes of Magic is impressive for a free MMO, perhaps even the best, but predictably it's nowhere near as good as its subscription-based rivals, WoW and Warhammer Online.

Runes of Magic is by and large a robust, enjoyable game. As a free-to-play title, it's impressive. Although Western gamers will still have their reservations about amorphous RMT versus those nice straightforward subs, Runes of Magic is something of a landmark: it won't dislodge the subscription-based model in the West by any stretch of the imagination, but it does demonstrate that free-to-play doesn't necessarily mean rudimentary, shallow, cheap or totally brutal in the integration of RMT.

It's leagues behind the subscription-based MMOs of the world. [July 2009, p.74]

I'm a hardcore WoW gamer and I have to say I'm floored by how impressive this game is. I would definitely recommend it to any MMORPG fan :)
Jared H gave it an8:
A great free Massive online player game for anyone. Though be warned if your spoiled over games like WoW, you probaly will not like it.
Pedro L gave it an8:
A simpler WoW, but at the same time, a faster, smoother, easier to learn game. It's free, has nice landscapes, it's stable, nice population growing, meaning you get ppl for partying, plenty of quests.
Daniel E gave it a9:
For a free game, this is almost exactly a clone of World of Warcraft. The gameplay feels, looks, and tastes like WoW. Even the loading screen is like WoW. Now this may be good and bad for some people. If you are looking for a free *WATERED DOWN* version of WoW, then you found the right game, if you are looking for a replacement that is greater than or equal to WoW, then keep looking. For a free game though it is the best one on the market.
