Summary
It's all about fun, personal development for your Sims in The Sims 2 FreeTime. Sims can follow their individual interests, whether it's immersing themselves in books, becoming an award-winning foodie, flying a remote-controlled helicopter or playing the violin. Gifted mechanics can repair and then drive their newly-renovated sports cars. Sims can rake in oodles of Simoelons with skillfully crafted pottery or by writing a mesmerizing novel. Cool careers bring happiness and fulfillment to your Sims and your storytelling opportunities expand. New cool career options await, including oceanography, architecture, and entertainment. Now by honing their talents, your Sims can unlock a secondary aspiration making them even more unique. Your Sims can discover the activities that they’re most passionate about! Sims can now participate in contests to win prizes and Simoleons, or they can master interests, practice and improve their skills, and get in “the zone!” Your Sims can enrich their lives by creating items to use or sell, like pottery or cars. These new hobbies can strengthen friendships and uncover secret lots. New Lifetime Aspiration Meter. Your Sims can measure the progress of their aspirations over a lifetime and unlock special rewards and interactions! Five New Career Tracks and their Reward Objects. Oceanographers can earn a koi pond, entertainers can get their own star of fame, architects can use their own drafting table, dancers can receive a ballet barre and intelligence agents can use an audio augmenter earpiece. All New Objects and Outfits. The Sims 2 FreeTime introduces brand new items, including a basketball hoop, pottery wheel, toddler activity table, modular synthesizer, hobby train table and much more. Your Sims can also have new outfits to match their hobbies and activities, including a special outfit that was designed and created by a player of The Sims 2 that will be produced by H&M. Requires The Sims 2, The Sims 2 Special DVD Edition, The Sims 2 Holiday Edition or The Sims 2 Deluxe for PC to play. [Electronic Arts]

FreeTime is so rich with content and gameplay features that I rate it right up there with Seasons as one of my must-have expansion pack titles.

Overall, from its equal treatment of Sims in different stages of life to its smooth integration with all previous expansion packs, FreeTime is very well-rounded and better thought-out than many of the previous expansions.

Free Time will go down as one of the most significant expansions for The Sims 2. It definitely blows away "Bon Voyage," and is arguably even slightly better than "Seasons" simply because of the new content.

A quality add-on to revive your habit. [May 2008, p.88]
PTGamers
Free Time is an expansion pack that goes beyond what it at first appears. Far from limiting itself to the 10 new activities, it adds quite a few touches not immediately noticeable, that manage to deepen the experience.

For the Sims 2 fan whose enthusiasm has been decaying in the six months since Bon Voyage, prepare to be bombarded by new things. And for those gamers who haven’t yet experienced the world’s highest grossing game series, perhaps The Sims 2 is now exhaustive enough to deserve a second glance. [May 2008, p.61]
Pelit (Finland)
Yet another add-on for the somewhat tired franchise. However, for an add-on it's well made and brimming with content, so the target audience should be pleased with it. [Mar 2008]
GameZone
What FreeTime offers is good stuff. The clubs are nice but the real benefit is linking neighborhoods and terrain modification.

FreeTime isn't bad. Actually, it's very good. [June 2008, p.80]
Play (Poland)
The existence of sims comprised mostly of the same actions repeated over and over again gains some more colour now that cooking and cleaning up can be taken up as hobbies. Career and romance become even easier thanks to a new batch of options directed at starting and improving the relationships. There is nothing revolutionary in this rather utilitarian add-on, but if I can have a good time fixing the microwave, why not? [March 2008]
Games Radar (in-house)
Free Time is more a gap filler than anything else. It gives a few more things to do and smoothes some rough edges, but there’s a sense that EA is playing out the string here.
Free Time is so uninspiring compared to some other Sims add-ons. The combination of developing your hobbies, making a career and maintaining your Sims is a difficult one. The add-on adds little to the concept. Only for Sims-addicts.
