Summary

Train, play, and care for your cats and dogs, and count on many unexpected twists and turns in this easy-to-play, laptop-friendly version of The Sims. The Sims Pet Stories features two great ways to play. In the new and engaging directed Story mode, you take on a variety of challenges as you compete for 1st place in a local pet show and learn to tame a variety of pet personalities. You even unlock rewards along the way as you achieve set goals. In open-ended Classic mode, you create your Sims and their pets, design their homes, and teach your pets tricks. You decide how their stories unfold. [Electronic Arts]

Games Master UK

Pets was our favourite expansion pack and this improves it to no end. [Sept 2007, p.80]

PC Gamer UK

A great pedigree - you'll be hooked on this like grade A catnip. [Sept 2007, p.89]

Yahoo! Games

The low system specs are a nice deal and The Sims Pet Stories is a well implemented gateway into the Sims world, but EA has definitely skimped on the full gateway functionality by not allowing Stories to play with other releases in the series. In other words, if you really get hooked, be ready to cough up for the full-sized version.

The characters are funnier, the stories more interesting and the gameworld that little bit more interactive thanks to the hairy companions running around. Let's just hope that volume 3, Castaway Stories, features a smoke monster and mysterious hatches.

For those of you who like their games with lots to do or for those who just want to ignore the storyline and mess about by sitting back and watching their pet destroy their house one sofa at a time, The Sims Pet Stories is perfect. For gamers who want to relax in front of their PC, this might not be the best option.

Jolt Online Gaming UK

The Sims: Pet Stories is, for our money, more interesting than Life Stories in that it contains the relationship elements of the latter while adding in the extra dimension of training up a pet.

PC Format

A step too far in EA's attempts to make the franchise print more money. [Sept 2007, p.62]

Pelit (Finland)

It seems that EA tries desperately to create new content and games for Sims players. You can see the desperation here. Pet Stories doesn’t offer anything new to the previous ones but the horrible “stories” which are so utterly stupid that the player feels ashamed playing them. Everything’s not bad though. Creating and training pet is quite okay and there’s a lot to do as in all Sims games. Still, I wouldn’t pay full price for this new... game. [Aug 2007]

Boomtown

For anyone curious about the Sims phenomenon that wants a nicely accessible entry point, this will certainly do the job; but avoiding the structural elements and heading straight for the sandbox mode would serve a much better initiation.

You really would be better off buying The Sims 2 and its Pets expansion though, and making up your own stories in your head. [Sept 2007, p.82]

I really enjoyed this game. I did have a couple of bugs but I called the tech support number and they fixed it.

Julie C. gave it a10:
Wow!!!! Really liked this game. Give us more stories, EA!!!

George Z. gave it a9:
Overall it's really good. Wish the framerate was higher on my laptop.

Rachel F. gave it an8:
While I mostly liked this game, I wish that it worked with my other Sims games.

Carla S. gave it a10:
I liked this game better than Pet Stories.

Rachel R. gave it a10:
I must say I am really enjoying this game and I didn't think that I would. I say that because it doesn't work with your other Sims expansion packs, but the stories are so cute and funny that i'm down with it all.

Kelly K. gave it a9:
The thing I liked the best about this game is that there are 2 stories that you can play and then you can go into unlimited play mode. My only wish is that you could use your stuff from other sims expansion packs...or I would give it a perfect 10!!
