Summary

In Sniper Elite, players assume the role of an American sniper, disguised as a German soldier and dropped into war torn 1945 Berlin by the American OSS to gather intelligence on the top-secret German Atomic research. If his mission fails, control of the world's Atomic technology will fall into the hands of Stalin and the Soviet Army, throwing the world's political climate into chaos. In the undercover mission, players utilize their sniper training to gain access to key positions by taking out machine guns, armored vehicles, guard posts and sentries through stealth and pinpoint accuracy. Like a true sniper, players must follow their wits and instincts and utilize both first and third-person perspectives to negotiate through 28 open-ended levels in war-torn Berlin. In taking aim at enemy soldiers, players need to consider gravity, wind speed, heart rate, breathing and posture to successfully hit their target in one of the most authentic sniping mechanics ever devised. Players can even take up the fight or go head-to-head with a friend in the cooperative or competitive offline play modes, or even engage in a game of worldwide cat-and-mouse with up to eight players online. BonusStage

Only the best of the best will see the final missions in Sniper Elite mode, but for the rest of us, Rebellion has created a remarkable, beautifully brutal WWII game that’s smarter than the usual fodder lining game store shelves.

Headshot heaven for FPS addicts. [Dec 2005, p.92]

Worth Playing

Its setting and antagonists are among the most frequently-used in the genre today, and frankly, neither of them add so much to the game that they couldn't've been removed. This could've easily been set in Baghdad or Somalia or some future city without compromising its gameplay.

games(TM)

Sniper Elite makes headshots a grizzly reward that becomes addictive and, because the battle is always weighted against you, filled with air-punching satisfaction every time you make a connection. Bravo. [Nov 2005, p.96]

Pelit (Finland)

Much too static and scripted and requires unearthly patience. What is the point in stalking if no one does anything without the stalker doing something first? [Dec 2005]

GameSpot

Sniper Elite offers a lengthy single-player game full of tense and rewarding moments, but it requires a lot of patience to truly enjoy.

Though Sniper Elite doesn't do anything revolutionary, it’s still a fun game. But what happened to the cooperative mode?

Gaming Age

The realism may turn off some run and gun gamers, but even those fans will have a hard time not appreciating what Sniper Elite brings to the table in terms of great and entertaining game play.

Computer and Video Games

Sniper Elite could well have been a terrifically good simulation of being a wartime sneaky fella had there been a greater sense of ambition displayed in the design process. As it is, you're left with a game that doesn't really offer a great deal more in terms of ammo delivery that we haven't seen done equally well in more popular, less subject-specific shooters. As it stands it's just a good game with a few very awkward parts.

Guru G gave it a2:
Anyone looking for a sniping simulator, or even a game with good sniping at all, is well advised to stay away. I'll spare you the rant and give you some highlights. The bullet drop is hilariously bad. I've fired BB guns with better accuracy. The game focuses on stealth, and yet only the pistol is silenced, and the gunshot from your rifle can be heard from the entire country of Germany. Enemies clairvoyantly know where you are and will run directly to your position, even if you're moving silently, and even if they've never seen you. Soldiers can usually take a bullet to the chest and keep moving. They are precision-accurate with wartime machine guns (remember, guns that were built to be cheap and fire bullets, but not for much else.) Most enemies are quicker draws than the Sundance Kid and more accurate than John McClain. At one point, I got frustrated and simply rushed through a mission with a machine gun, sniping nobody. I completed all objectives easily, and spent much less time doing it. Terrible game. Avoid this one.

My rating is strictly regarding the online games rooms, that suck out loud, because there are some gamers that make a game out of remote game cheats etc......

Will C gave it a10:
It is so realistic, I was a sniper in the Vietnam war and this game is pretty close to the real deal with a few minor things. Must get for all shoot 'em up lovers

Noxn Xon gave it a10:
When i played it... i sucked pretty hard at it... It was fun tho and made me a better sniper in other games. Except the graphics, everything in this game is AWESOME. Even the cheats.

nia nyut gave it a10:
i had finished play it.. i like, as if i was a real sniper.. the graphic is outstanding, especially the slow motion effect, it;s kind a realistic plot, so it make you can wait to move to next mission..

Gabriel M gave it a9:
This game is really good, is all about patience and wait the right moment to shoot, but not only that because you have to look the best place to hide yourself of the enemy, watch the movements of the enemy and then finally fire considering the wind and posture of your sniper. So yes is very realistic and you have to think everything. The only reason because this game isn't perfect is the artificial intelligence of the enemy. They simply fire at you at very long range with highly accuracy with machine guns and not only that, they aware about you even when they didn't see you coming. But overall its a excellent game.

Mike C. gave it a10:
I have waited years for a great sniper game to come out and its this one, i hope to see a second one. This game is great and it dilivers. Its alot of fun and its not all point shoot and run it actualy takes some thinking.
