Summary
Your men need your strategic mind and unwavering nerve as battles rage in this riveting recreation of World War II tactical combat. Command troops in both the Allied and German Armies of the West Front of World War II in an immersive full 3D continuous time environment. Once the battle starts, the soldiers you command respond with real reactions to the combat situations around them. Detailed models for all the major armies that fought in France in 1944, including American, German, British, Canadian, and Free French, combine with unsurpassed detail in terrain, weather, weapons, vehicles, and armor penetration to make Squad Assault: Second Wave a first-rate military strategy game. PC Gameworld
Loaded with tons of action and realistic war time simulations, SA2 even with its flaws, gives any RTS fan a realistic taste of war.

Tactical combat in World War II with a realistic flair is Squad Assault: the Second Wave’s claim to fame.

While we still admire the unique gameplay mechanics of Squad Assault, it certainly feels as though the series, as well as the technology, is being pushed a game too far with Second Wave.

Worth buying if you missed "West Front," but it's not the sequel fans were hoping for. [Dec 2005, p.85]
Worth Playing
An evolutionary step. It would be worse to not have a Squad Assault at all, but that being said, Second Wave is still deeply flawed.

There isn't much more here than we saw with Squad Assault: The West Front, when it comes right down to it. And with no facelift in the intervening years, it's going to have that much harder of a time appealing to the non-bearded types.

Mediocre "Close Combat" update, two years old already. [Christmas 2005, p.102]
BonusStage
I admire the level of customization that Freedom Games put into this title, but it seems that it may have detracted from creating an overall enjoyable experience.

New players are likely to feel totally lost in a sea of hostile troops and jittery unresponsive allies who can walk through walls but not fire through hedges. Not a game for the uninitiated.

I admire the level of customisation available but it seems that this may have detracted from creating an overall enjoyable experience.
