Cheat Code Central
Although there are shortcomings, Legacy is an opportunity for Star Trek fans to experience ship battles from any of the Trek time periods. If you can look past the fact that you'll spend all of your time looking at the hulls of the ships, the battles can be fun.

Pleasant to look at, but has very limited tactical depth. What is worse there is not really much else to do other than fire the phasers. Only a die-hard trekkie could enjoy this – and, sadly, probably will. [Feb 2007]
My Gamer
As nice as it was to return to the space-combat genre, particularly seeing as how this was a Trek game, I was, in the end, left a bit flat by Legacy's final presentation.

Spotty AI results in way too much micromanagement, which is a true shame for any game, but especially for a strategic one bearing the Star Trek license.
It may be a straight port from the Xbox 360 version but does play well and has a very good storyline with well-done voice acting from all the original Star Trek captains.

This is one just for the big Star Trek fans. The average gamer is unlikely to maintain interest for too long; especially given the main campaign has a completion time of around 10 hours.

I had high hopes that Legacy would be the game that rejuvenates the dormant Star Trek franchise, but it's just another addition to my pile of disappointing Trek games. [Mar 2007, p.58]
GameZone
A badly designed and frustrating interface hampers this game. Star Trek fans will enjoy the look of the game, the variety of ships and the familiar voices, but actually playing the game won’t be much fun.

Despite its long, long list of lazy omissions it's still a game that Trek fans will enjoy -- if only for the voices, fire-photon-torpedoes ambiance, and graphical effects. They'll just have to grit their teeth while they do it.

As an action game, it suffers from poor controls and awful fleet (read: wingman) commands that gum up the works. Still, wearing down the shields of those dastardly Romulan vessels and finishing them off with photon torpedoes can be satisfying, sometimes elevating Legacy ever-so-briefly above mediocrity.

The poor control scheme and unreliable AI combine with overly long missions and the absence of a save system to make the game one long exercise in frustration.

That was my favorite aspect of the game. It’s very pretty, and it sounds pretty good as long as you turn the volume way up so as not to hear the rest of the vehicle coming apart around you.

This starship combat game simply can't overcome bad controls, frustrating mission designs, and a mess of bugs.

I could have forgiven this for being a superficial Trek-based shooter if it was at least fun. It's not. [Feb 2007, p.58]
ActionTrip
The game is challenging enough to make you play for a few hours, but it seems that some slip-ups in overall design have easily diminished all hopes of undertaking a highly immersive and profound space adventure. If it weren't for the technical mishaps and awkward gameplay mechanics, this game would've been a worthy addition to the Star Trek universe.

A tiresome, half-arsed effort. [Feb 2007, p.88]
PC Zone UK
Sad to say, the lumbering combat, laborious controls, frankly bizarre collision detection and remarkably glitchy graphics really put a bit of a kibosh on things. Disengage. [Mar 2007, p.70]
Detroit Free Press
The controls are frustrating on the PC because they were designed for a game controller, not a keyboard and mouse.

While similar games like "Bridge Commander" or the "Starfleet Command" series were far from perfect themselves, they at least offered some reasonable challenge and were capable of effectively immersing one into the Star Trek universe. Legacy fails to accomplish either of those things pretty much across the board, while simultaneously annoying and confusing players over and over again.
Legacy looks great and sounds great, it has a few good hooks and a solid story to tell, but it fails on most levels to be a compelling experience.
This game could have been the be all and end all for Trek fans and action gamers alike instead of the sad capstone to a long history of crappy licensed video games.
Read Full Review >Game Over Online
A mess by almost any comparison. These aren’t tears of rapturous joy running down my cheeks – they are instead the expression of my realization that the Star Trek gaming curse has yet again resulted in a horrific shambling zombie monster of a Star Trek game.

The legacy at hand offers only frustration and disappointment. They made it so. [Apr 2007, p.62]
Worth Playing
Unless you are a die-hard who simply doesn't care about fun and all you want to do is make sure your Star Trek collection is complete, then I recommend that you avoid this disastrous mistreatment of the house that Roddenberry built.

Thomas W. gave it a3:
Why does this have to be so dreadful, with a little more thought and time this could have been fantastic but instead it is insipid rubbish.
Chris S. gave it a1:
I waited for ages for my local game shop to restock this game. Now I know why they wasn't in a hurry..ITS UNPLAYERBLE! Totally disappointed. Ever since Microsoft entered the console world PC games are getting terrible. Don't buy this game! My specs are... 3200+ AMD, 1024mb 400mhz ram, GF FX5900. And its unplayerble, 1 frame a second max, on low settings.
[Anonymous] gave it a10:
This game, despite it's little problems, is a blast to play. Anyone rating it lower than an 8 does not know a good one when they play one.
Jimmus M. gave it a7:
Certainly not the worst Star Trek game out. It's pretty and fairly easy to play. I just wish they'd do an open-ended Star Trek (ala Grand Theft Auto) where you could visit planets and the missions were not so linear. Is it so hard to do? You've got tractor beams, sensors, transporters and most of the goodies, but you can really only use them in predetermined situations, making them essentially useless.
Alex S. gave it a0:
Extremely poor game. Graphics are horrendous, coding is terribly unfinished, controls are totally whacked (and you're not able to remap the controls!) and the multiplayer is a joke. My system should have been able to fully handle this game, and the lag was so bad that it was unplayable... literally. This was the first game that I have ever returned, and should be nominated for the worst game of 2006.
JC D. gave it a3:
Only good if you like an arcade-style shoot em up set in space instead of a simulation type game. Graphics are good once you tweak config files.
Joe Blow gave it a4:
Graphics are sub-par, gameplay is horrendous, it's full of bugs, and there is no way to redefine your controls, or even see what button does what! It's a joke of a console port, and not at all worth the $40 I shelled out for it. Should've read the reviews before buying it.
