Unless you've got friends willing to pass as potential victims, it's about a day's worth of cheap thrills. But those seeking a suitable multiplayer scrap should find themselves in good shape with this one.

If you want gritty, realistic combat action, go buy "United Offensive"—if you want the "digital crack" factor that has defined the Battlefield titles, and you dig the Star Wars series, then definitely give this one a try.

Star Wars: Battlefront may sound like a bad idea, but Pandemic and LucasArts have delivered a polished experience with some seriously fun action, the opportunity for real strategy during the battles, and a new take on the Star Wars gaming experience overall.

Despite the excellent technical aspects however, Battlefront ends up as a game without much of a soul, which without extra game modes or mods made by the fans will not last long in the multiplayer arena, where the battle is already heating up and where second place just doesn't cut it anymore.

The PC version is clearly the best, because it not only looks superior, it supports up to 32 players in a single battle.

If Lucasarts can tame its networking quirks, deepen the map selection, and iron out a few of its weapons and class wrinkles, Battlefront stands the chance of being the most addictive online game since "Counterstrike."

The incredibly well-modeled levels, the accurately modeled weapons and vehicles, and the awesome straight-from-the-movie sounds greatly enhanced the experience and made it feel like I was truly in the midst of a huge battle.

It should go without saying that the sights and sounds of Battlefront are top notch. The presentation, from menus to gameplay, is perfectly tailored to the identity of Star Wars.

So much more about Battlefront manages to impress than disappoint ' from the solid gameplay to the overall application of the Star Wars universe, which has been done with so much care and attention that even the most hardened fan will be satisfied. If only all Star Wars games could be made this way. [Nov 2004, p.100]

Gamer's Hell

But once you take it online and play team versus team the fun factor really kicks in. AT-ATs shaking the ground, Ties and X-Wings battling it out in the air and the sounds of explosions and blaster fire all around you, any real Star Wars fans doesn't stand a chance at putting this game down.

We're given lots of initial wow factor, but Battlefont can't go the distance against the likes of the "Battlefield" series. I can't complain too much, though, because I still left the experience with a wide grin on my face. Battlefront is definitely a Star Wars geek's dream. [Holiday 2004, p.110]

The multiplayer side of things, however, is excellent. The online play is smooth (depending on the server) and, truthfully, there's nothing quite like sneaking in to steal a control point right from under other players' noses.

Oddly captivating in its mediocrity. If you're a Star Wars fan, you'll undoubtedly have a blast reliving the epic conflicts of the Star Wars universe, but at the same time you might find it a little too frustrating to enjoy and I could sympathize with that.

Delivers a satisfying team-based shooter experience that many hardcore Star Wars fans will probably enjoy greatly. Ironically, though the PC version of the game is technically the best, it also faces the stiffest direct competition, because to many PC shooter fans the game may come off as old hat.

While it offers these amazing spectacles, thrilling battles, and remains a great account of what Star Wars battles must have felt like, there simply isn't enough content to keep the game going for months or years after its release.

This game is good but not great. The game needed about another 3 to 6 months of development time to get some of the bugs worked out (specifically the AI and the weapons loadouts), but I have a feeling the pressure was on since they timed the game's release with the release of the original trilogy's DVD iteration.

It offers that shallow kind of fun that plays on the novelty of the experience rather than anything else. The game is undeniably well-polished, but the longevity value is a bit questionable for anything other than hardcore Star Wars fans.

Sadly, an impressive graphical presentation and some surprisingly fun offline gameplay (I would've preferred a more storyline-oriented campaign, but the skirmish-styled gameplay is still quite entertaining) just aren't enough to make Star Wars: Battlefront anything more than an above-average title.

This is the first game in star wars that you can play the best battles you normally play games that are about a jedi and its invincible in this one you really probe your self fighting one army againts another.

Gavin B. gave it a9:
So the single player isn't groundbreaking...big whoop. If you want a fantastic multiplayer experience and are bored with Battlefield, then go for this. The difficulty no way poses any serious challenge but the patches available now rectify it. If you are a Star Wars fan and love Battlefield, this is THE game to get!

Sam F. gave it a10:
Everything That Made the Battlefield series a hit, but in the star wars universe! How Cool is that? Awesome game and lots of action duplicating every battle in Star wars. If there is any negative it would be that this game's gameplay is exactly like BF1942 and Vietnam... But if it aint Broke...

Mursu J. gave it a10:
This game is best.

Leon T. gave it an8:
Excellent game but a limited life span, control configuration can be a nightmare - did there really need to be soooo many controls??? surley Left, Right, Forward, Back and FIRE would have been sufficent?. However alll in all one of the best shoot em up's ive played.

Paul de V. gave it a9:
Great game!

Dink J. gave it a10:
It's a great game for star wars fabs or not good game play but bad single player, but why would you want to play alone in a game called battlefront anyway.
