Summary
Star Wars Battlefront II improves upon the original game's single-player experience with open-ended, mission-based objectives inspired from all six Star Wars films. The compelling storyline spans more than 12 new locations, many from Episode III, including volcanic Mustafar and the space battle above Coruscant. All-new classic movie moments complete the Star Wars Battlefront II experience, as players battle within the interior of the Death Star and visit Princess Leia’s blockade runner, the Tantive IV, as seen at the beginning of Episode IV A New Hope. In addition, at certain key moments within the battles, players can feel the Force as a Jedi. For the first time ever, Star Wars Battlefront II players can engage in space combat and, during the same battle, board enemy ships to attack from within. Starting on foot inside a capital ship, players can enter the spacecraft of their choice and travel into space to dogfight with the rival faction. From there, they can dock within the enemy’s capital ship, overtake the ship’s command posts, man its turrets to disable its shields and destroy it from within! Or, they can simply stay inside their own capital ship and defend it from attacks and enemy fire. The choice is theirs. The stellar online play that marked the original Star Wars Battlefront returns even bigger and better for Star Wars Battlefront II. Players can locate their buddies and track their stats as they battle alongside more players than ever (up to 24 on PS2, 32 on Xbox, 64 on Windows). [LucasArts]

The improved single-player games are worthwhile enough on their own, but if you can find well connected online matches, multiplayer games will keep you addicted for months.

A huge improvement over the first game. There is enough content to keep even the most die-hard fan playing for a long time. Take it online, and the replay value is seemingly endless.

Perhaps only a third party can produce a title that so glorifies a series that revolutionised cinema, because it’s Pandemic and not LucasArts that has created a game that lives up to the vast shadow created by the films.

Space battle is the newest addition to the Battlefront series. I stand and applaud LucasArts and Pandemic for pulling off the single greatest space flight simulation game ever.

The sequel to last year's third-person/real-time strategy game set in Star Wars land once again manages to be the 'Nam of Wars games. In other words, the disc does a heck of job of trying to make you feel like you're really "in the sh.t" on Coruscant.

In terms of gameplay and balance, Battlefront II is a massive improvement over its predecessor.

The movies may be done, but with games like Battlefront II, I have a feeling that the best in Star Wars is yet to come. [Dec 2005, p.152]
Gaming Age
Battlefront II is a good sequel, but it's got too much in common with the first game to make the upgrade a no-brainer.

Outstanding game - indeed, it's what last year's Battlefront should have been. [Jan 2005, p.54]
GameZone
The online play is fantastic and makes up for the mediocre enemy AI found in the single-player missions.

A fun romp that stays interesting no matter how you play it. It has its share of flaws, but for fans, this is the first Star Wars game to have it all.

Take away the costumes and the lasers and you've still got an excellent example of how to produce multiplayer bedlam. [Dec 2005, p.110]
Pelit (Finland)
A hardcore Star Wars fan's dream come true. Decent solo game with playable jedi characters, furious space fights and awesome net play. What else can you ask for? As a PC game Battlefront 2 is a technically lacking hyperactive bunnyhopper. Again. [Dec 2005]
Computer Games Online RO
Better than its predecessor, but unfortunately, it doesn’t pack enough novelties to really make you to want more, unless you’re a Star Wars fan.

If you want barely controlled chaos in a bright and awesome sounding package Star Wars Battlefront 2 is for you.

New space combat maps and playable Jedi represent some incremental improvements, but for the most part, Battlefront II treads familiar ground, which is great for Star Wars fanatics and fans of team-based online shooters.

Armed with a healthy Internet connection, this game will hold at bay the forces of boredom for months. Switch off that connection, though, and witness the biggest turn to the lame side since the new Star Wars movies.

It's a shame that Battlefront 2's core action does not live up to its ambition, and yet it's certainly a game worth playing. [Dec 2005, p.80]
ActionTrip
If you are really-truly hardcore about the Star Wars universe and you scoff at the "silly nuts and bolts weapons" and thing halogen lights are strangely appealing, with a patch here and there, Battlefront 2 just *might* be the experience you are looking for.

And so more than its predecessor, the faults and quirks of Battlefront II stand out and become glaring because the new adds feel unpolished while the old gripes manage to rear their heads for a second time.
Far better than it should be, partly for its spirited use of the license, partly for its variety, and partly for the simple fact that it's a rarity to have a game like this with serviceable bots.

Though only the second installment, this feels more like the "Return of the Jedi" of the Battlefront franchise than "The Empire Strikes Back." [Feb 2006, p.52]

Kenshin gave it a1:
I really cant believe people give this game a 10 or even anything above a 5 all this game is is a bad attempt at making a battlefield clone the AI sucks the graphics are horrible and they dont let you have any kind of aircraft in land battles the only reason i even give this a 1 is because its a Star Wars game if you want a far better battlefield experience then play BF2 or BF2142 or even battlefield Vietnam all were better then this game.
Role gave it a6:
Finally got this the other day and what can I say? Just Battlefront with space battles tbh. I cannot believe that this game demanded such a high spec PC to run on its initial release as graphically its very poor, even with everything maxed out, and several of the maps are from battlefront. All of the vehicles look like they have been added after the shaders and lighting so look incredibly out of place. Have not tried online because u need gamespy and I won't use gamespy - no inbuilt server browser sucks. If you are (like me) a massive star wars fan then buy it, because from that aspect you will have fun, and it does have some great rebel scum blasting moments, but only buy it if ou find it cheap. Cmon lucasarts - do the right thing - give Battlefront 3 to dice to develop and give us the starwars game we have all been waiting for.
Mikey gave it a5:
I didnt like the game because it feels like an over priced expansion.they just added in some new stuff but they havent fixed the AI and other major problems and they also took out alot of fun features from the first game like you cant go prone anymore, they took out aircraft on lands maps now the only maps you can fly on are space maps.i also wish they would add more vechicles and weapons.i would reccomend you stick with the first one until the next generation consoles come out and which the pc version wont be limited by the outdated ps2 and they release the inevitable battlefront 3.
John H. gave it a10:
I love it! It's one of the best games I've ever played. I love the space battles and all of the new added places. I also like the Heros.
Koby F. gave it a10:
I think this game is very intense, and is worth a 10, all because its so awesome, though its hard.
Jon gave it a9:
Space assualt should have more capital ships, otherwise, great game. The only other thing I could ask for would being able to make a custom team (take units from different CIS, Rebels, Impire, and clones to make a completly new side), but I've never played a game that does.
Darth Vader gave it a9:
dont listen to ed or ryan, they both wouldnt know a good game even if it punched them on the face. it is not an expasion because an expansions is like the first one, only with little things vcchanged. yeah the game play on swbf2 is like the first one, but hey, u cant make perfection any better. true they didnt fix the graphics or some glitches, but so what? who cares? they arent bothering me i tell you, and hey am not even a star wars fan, i never liekd anyof the movies a lot, but i say this game is pretty good in the way it tries to connect the 6 movies, with the 501s and everything, awesome game, not an expasion, its SWBF2, buy it, its worth the money so much.
