Summary
Several years have passed since Kyle Katarn avenged his father's death and saved the Valley of the Jedi from Jerec and his band of Dark Jedi. Allowing his Force powers to languish for fear of falling to the Dark side, Kyle set aside his lightsaber, vowing never to use it again. But when a new and menacing threat to the galaxy emerges, Kyle knows he must reclaim his past in order to save his future. Players assume the role of Kyle as they employ a unique mix of weapons, Force powers and your lightsaber in both single- and multiplayer modes of first-person action. [LucasArts]

Computer Gaming World
It's just beautifully designed: fast-paced, challenging, and awesome to look at. [June 2002, p.78]
Four Fat Chicks
While Jedi Outcast is firmly entrenched in the action genre, that shouldn't frighten away adventure gamers. If you've ever played an action/adventure game and have an interest in Star Wars, it's imperative to play this game.

The force is strong with this one. [24 May 2002, p.98]
Hot Games
The seamless controls and extensive levels can only be matched by the spectacular graphics and superior sound.

Each character model is so well done and I even found the cut scenes interesting.

Jedi Knight II ranks up there with the giants like "X-Wing Alliance" and the original "Jedi Knight." It's just that good.

Without question, Jedi Outcast is the most enjoyable and accomplished Star Wars game yet. [May 2002, p.90]
Just RPG
Great story, puzzles, adventure, Force powers – you know, it is difficult to find any weak spots in Jedi Outcast. One could say that it is a bit too linear – there is almost always only one way of progressing.

Raven Software has taken a big chance, trying to cover all the bases with Jedi Knight 2. Luckily, it has paid off, as this is an excellent game. It's got tons of stuff that players have been wanting since the first Jedi Knight, includes an engaging and fun multiplayer game, and delivers it all on the very stable and solid Quake 3 engine.

An intriguing juxtaposition of pieces of incredibly intense FPS action that had me on the edge of my seat combined with puzzle-like sections of such opacity that they made me want to kill myself.

The movement and the animation of the lead hero in third person is by far the best I've seen in a video game to date...Raven managed to pull off something a few game companies ever managed, and that is to take a classic to the next level.

The game is simply perfectly balanced in every way, and Raven have performed miracles achieving this. Whether you want to use grip to bash your opponent senselessly against the surroundings, or just go unnoticed for a while by using the mind trick, just about everything you would expect has been incorporated, and we love it to death.

Raven has done a fantastic job bringing Star Wars to life, especially with the small touches like the familiar war room from A New Hope.

As pleasurable to gaze on as Leia, as cheekily charming as Solo, and as ingenious as Lando's moustache. [PC Gamer UK]

If you can make it through the uninspired first third, you'll be treated to one of the prettiest, coolest, most compelling shooters released in the past year. [June 2002, p.65]
Game Revolution
It's got great action from two perspectives, mind-bending puzzles, and enough Force-powered Star Wars action to keep you up 'til the banthas come home.

A game that provides a lot of fast-paced and exciting action, and does a great job of conveying the feel of the Star Wars universe.

Not only is this one of the greatest Star Wars games I've ever played, it's one of the best action games period.

It takes the best of "Jedi Knight" and superpowers it with well thought out Force powers, excellent level design, fiendish and boggling puzzles and simply magnificent lightsaber fights.

Combine excellent level design, a compelling storyline and amazing presentation and you’ve got a game that will keep fans hooked until you’ve completed very last little bit.

An immensely playable and entertaining game that easily overpowers its few niggling flaws with its style, its spirit, and most importantly, its unswerving dedication to fun.

An exceptional Star Wars action game that contains some of the best combat sequences since "Half-Life," the most distinctive control mechanics since "Max Payne," and the most involving plot in a Star Wars game since Jedi Knight.

It links with Dark Forces and Jedi Knight very well, blending the Valley of the Jedi and the Dark Force together in a way that is cool and evil.

The real star of this game is the gameplay, which alternates between great and brilliant.

It might not go down as one of the classics of our time, but with a great story and fantastic multiplayer, it will spend a good deal of time on many hard drives.

JO is a fun game with plenty of action and unique areas but I just had a feeling that I had done all this before.

I really wasn't enjoying it much at first, but once I got to the later levels, the lightsaber combat and Force powers made it a ton of fun.

The force powers were definitely more enjoyable than in Jedi Knight; it's clear that a lot of thought was put into them.

The game is great... once you make it past the first three levels. Those who like to jump in a game, and make their decision within minutes will be highly disappointed.

It’s got 26 levels of outstanding Star Wars continuity, awesome gameplay, a fricken sweet multiplayer mode, and above all else you’re a Jedi (obviously) and you get to use and learn the force throughout the game, not to mention wield a lightsaber.

Chances are the majority of players will try some of the single-player game, become frustrated or bored, and then move on to the outstanding multiplayer modes.

Nowhere near the classic status of the original. It tries hard, though.

It pains me to give Jedi Knight II such a low rating but I don’t think I’ve ever been this bored with a game in my entire life.

The game is flawed on so many levels (and in so many ways), that its occasional glimpses of greatness almost get lost in the Bespin Clouds.

Marc P gave it a10:
This game is awesome. I just love it. It's enough challenging. I never expected things very good with the id Tech 3 engine, but the graphics are pretty awesome for a pretty old game. This game really deserves 9 or 10, not 4.
[Anonymous] gave it a7:
A Very good game once you get past all the annoying missions before you have your lightsaber and even then not getting to customize force powers was annoying but its saving graces were a great storyline and amazing multiplayer Personally i liked jedi Academy better because it had the same multiplayer with more modes and it had force power customization so i could fight my own way instead of using what it gave me after i completed a mission the lightsabers were also better in jedi academy i loved having a double bladed lightsaber.
Haven B gave it a4:
Sorry, but TechTV is right on this one. I gave it almost two hours and couldn't go any more because this game is so dreadfully boring. Match repetitive and sloppy gunplay with constant hunt-for-the-button quests and you have a game so dull you never get to the "good" parts you hear about from your friends.
Chris P. gave it a10:
This game was GREAT! TechTV, you guys must got somethikng wrong with your rating guys.
Matt M. gave it a 10:
This game is awesome and challenging. Period.
[Anonymous] gave it a 10:
Tech T.V. you guys just have a grudge against Star Wars. This game is one of the best Star Wars games ever made. Its up there with Knights of the Old Republic and K.O.T.O.R. 2.
Apology Accepted, Admiral Mulroneycakes gave it a 9:
It's not actively bad. In fact, it's actively good. But...there's a lot of aimless jumping around, a load of really rather dull puzzles, and a smattering of horrifyingly badly designed levels along the way. But it's good. But it's frustrating. So be careful. But play it. But be careful.
