If you love real-time strategy but are getting a little bored of tank rushes and linear opposition then you should snap this up as soon as you can – it’s worth every penny and then some.

Games Radar UK (Pre-2006)

What is really impressive about Sudden Strike is that it creates a more realistic battlefield than other RTS games without bogging everything down in statistics.

Atmosphere and dynamics of Sudden Strike are a reason why computer games remain more interesting than adventure novels.

IGN

The levels look absolutely stunning on the super high resolution. I love the weapon effects and the destructible terrain.

You have to mentally battle here, make decisions quickly and suffer the consequences of bad decisions. The single player game is tough; the online game is tougher.

Game Over Online

A solid game and a great introduction for those who are tired of the mindless carnage in RTS titles but aren't ready to cut their teeth yet in hardcore wargaming. Those who approach this game with a cannon fodder mentality will definitely be in for a rude awakening.

Computer Games Magazine

May be too complicated for many real-time strategy players and a little too silly for hardcore wargamers. If you don't mind making some compromises in either direction, however, there is ample fun to be had.

Game Revolution

Worth a look. Even if you are not a fan of the period or prefer more traditional RTS games, you will probably find that the challenges offered by the diverse campaigns will suck in more of your time than you expected.

There's fun to be had here so long as you aren't expecting a serious World War II sim. [Feb 2001, p.64]

Gamers' Temple

The game's campaign mode is disappointing. Most missions are not based on historical battles, and there are no consequences for losing a mission other than that it will have to be replayed.

All the clever animations, amusing sounds, and pretty battle graphics in the world can't replace an interesting combat system.

On paper, the idea sounds great (and the game has been a huge hit in Europe), but the final product flat out stinks.

Goodwin H. gave it a10:
This game totally kicks most other RTS games to the curb. It has stunning graphics and awsome sound which makes the whole game better. Many of the missions depict many real battles like Bastogne, Stalingrad, and D-day and even has a mission based on the movie Saving Private Ryan. All of the weapons and vehicles are real and if you are good at RTS games then you will have almost no problems beating the campaign mode.

Keith C. gave it a 10:
Great game use the no fog cheat it helps (**nofog)

Rik C. gave it a 10:
This game is one of the best of it's class, no other game I know can provide you with historic units and sides of all angles to play in this historic time period. This game just keeps getting better and better the more I play it, I suggest it to anyone, even if rts is not your class.

Jonathan C. gave it a 10:
The game is simply awesome. The graphics, the battle structure, the whole concept of a game without the same old production crap. If you suck so bad that you can't win with what you are given, try C&C.

D. H. gave it an 8:
The graphics are stunning. Assaults are fast and furious with little room for error. There are some issues around movement that lend to the confusion of a fire fight. My only issue with the game is that units are not realistically depicted in terms of endurance and firepower (i.e. Tiger tanks being easily taken out by Shermans).
