The game focuses on real events of the World War II. There are four campaigns; two of them are on the Pacific islands, and two of them in Europe. The player is able to play for the American or Japanese armies in the Pacific, and for the Allies or Germans in Europe. This is the first RTS engine to render accurate vast marine and land battlefields (maps contain more than 150 "virtual" square kilometers). The game introduces tight team play between all arms of the fighting forces: Naval battles supported by aviations - There are short- and long-range bomber, torpedo bombers, attack bombers, fighters, and transports. Groups of ships with carriers are a powerful force capable of not only to conduct operations at sea, but also to support the large ground operations (supported by carrier-based aircrafts and large-caliber on-ship guns). Submarines and aviation hunting enemy's transport ships caravans - Using different types of submarines in special operations, one can make sudden strikes on transports and battle ships of opponents; if the strike succeeds, the enemy will lose part of the reinforcement, and will lose opportunity to have significant navy. Radar systems allow players to more successfully defend of air and naval attacks of opponents. [Fireglow]

Shortcomings aside, Arms for Victory is bound to suck you into its fold in short order. The immense battles with thousands of various units at your command are simply epic.

Due to control problems and pathfinding issues, Sudden Strike 3 is not perfect. However, the scale of the battles and intense firefights make it a marked improvement over its predecessors.

PC Zone UK
The level design appears to be somewhat lacklustre (there's too much 'take this point! And now this one!'), but it's still an enjoyable romp. [Mar 2008, p.85]

It has some lingering problems, but bigger battles and a more impressive scope make this latest Sudden Strike the best yet.

What Sudden Strike 3: Arms for Victory has is a bevy of strategic options at its disposal. As such, it's really going to appeal to those armchair generals.

PC PowerPlay
A relatively poor interface and the ongoing need for micromanagement mask the game’s many strengths and risks discouraging both casual players and bored veterans. [Mar 2008, p.59]

Play (Poland)
It starts really poorly - even the disgracefully short tutorial uncovers the deficiencies of this title, namely units getting lost and jerky sounds resembling old electronic games. Then the first mission sucks you in for good. Diversity of situations you face precludes any possibility of boredom, but the presentation and unit AI deserved much more attention. [March 2008]

PC Gamer UK
This is good news for the strategy-is-serious-business crowd, but it makes for a game without much character. [June 2008, p.89]

IGN
Your virtual units move and act so dumbly that you'll watch all your carefully drawn-up plans and dreams get dashed before your eyes when your tanks fail to return fire against a foe that's practically sitting right next to them.

It's fine entertainment for an hour at a time, but there are too many niggling problems to keep playing for long.

D. A/ gave it a3:
Weak, resource hog 3D RTS that does not live up to the name Sudden Strike. What a waste!
