Summary

While the four civilized races battle back the voracious Zuul and seek advantage over each other, a ghost from the past returns to the galaxy in the form of the manipulative Morrigi. Already known for their dark crow-shaped attack drones and deadly traps, this race once thought long extinct, returns looking for vengeance. Using never-before-seen weapons, ships and tactics, the Morrigi fall upon the other five races of the Sword of the Stars universe, who must now adapt to the ancient masters of space or be destroyed. Time is of the essence as world after world falls to the black winged ships that surge out of the dark like A Murder of Crows. [Lighthouse Interactive]

The expansion also enhances your ability to interact with other races – something I’ve given the series criticism for in the past.

Worth Playing

All in all, Sword of the Stars: A Murder of Crows is a worthwhile expansion to those who are already infatuated with the series, but it doesn't alter things enough to convert non-believers.

GameZone

A Murder of Crows offers some nice new features for vets, but is still pretty complex and unwieldy for newcomers.

IGN

While it undoubtedly expands the options of the core game and brings in an inventive, engaging race, the lingering interface problems still frustrate out efforts to uncover the undeniable joys to be found inside. Despite its flaws, the game has earned its fans and they will undoubtedly enjoy the added options found here.

Absolute Games

With two expansions under its belt, Sword of the Stars is finally catching up to its rivals. Galactic Civilizations 2: Twilight of the Arnor is still light years ahead, but on the other hand, Lost Empire: Immortals and Space Empires 5 are now just a stone's throw from here.

Erick S gave it a10:
Much more to the game than first meets the eye. Those who review the game in a mere hour or so have no idea what the game contains. Designed do be playable for many years, and has many hidden surprises.

Andre C. gave it a9:
This is one of the best 4x strategy games out there. Easy to learn, tension to fight and hard to master. I love the races and the art style of the game. Give it a chance!

I Newton gave it a9:
Been playing Sword of the Stars since the original. Now with all the expansions it just gets better. If there ever was a true successor to Masters of Orion this is it. Streamlines the complexity that some 4x games go into, but maximises on the fun parts of the game. Truly brilliant.

Robert G gave it a10:
Excellent core game, excellent expansion. This still takes my vote for best '4x' strategy game on the market currently. Amazing support from the developers, great community, great multiplayer support.

Andrea I gave it a3:
well, the reason why i write here is that i dont want other ppl to waste time like i did on that poor title. Its not about the terrible textures and graphic in general or the poor 3d engine, that is surely not first for a strategy 4x type game... the problem is all about tha game.. The RTS side of it is really crap, you cant do nothing than point the left mouse button on the enemy ship and hope to win, its RT but no strategy at all here. Someone tried to compare that title to the first homeworld for the RTS side, its really a joke about that. Also the game is all 3D but all fights are on a single plan, so basically could be all 2D without any difference. The research tree is full 3D also, very complex to compare different items and boring to menage. Beside the very poor RTS part of it there is the classic space strategic simulation .... well.. should be, as what you can do as menagement is very poor compared to other titles, that is a hybrid strategic/rts title that is a wannabe in every single aspect, nothing more. An outdated title like space empires IV is 100 times better. A complete waste of time and money.

Chris M. gave it a9:
Another Excellent expansion. Perhaps not the 10 that Born of Blood was, but excellent. Many new ideas on the empire side of the game, which really fleshes it out a bit more then the simple expansion game it was. This might conflict with the combat focused gameplay of before, I'll know more once I've played it some more. Big con is that the voice acting for the new faction is a real disappointment, especially after the stellar performance on the zuul. But the gameplay is what really matters, and it is top notch.
