The stakes are high when the world's most elite counter-terrorism unit enters Las Vegas, where over 36.7 million men, women and children visit each year. "Sin City," the home of the famous Las Vegas Strip, flashy hotels, high-rolling casinos and world-famous celebrities, becomes the setting for a terrorist threat of global proportions. This is as good as gunplay has gotten in a videogame. [Mar 2007, p.60]

Thunderbolt

One of the best games that I’ve ever played. The final level of the game is essentially a massive firefight through the Hoover Dam and it was arguably one of the best experiences I’ve had in video gaming.

Arguably the best current tactical shooter on the PC. It tops most other PC games in the multiplayer arena including levels of tension.

Worth Playing

Even if you don't have a top-of-the-line gaming rig, this is a superb title that is so good (even on medium detail settings) that you just might postpone that eBay sale so that you can play it through a second time.

Games Radar (in-house)

The game's greatest feat is adding strategy to the first person shooter and getting the player - whether working alone or with others - to occasionally stop, forget about the gun and just think. You'll be amazed at how well it works and at how good it feels.

A little bit lightweight for hardcore tactical shooter fans but still an action-packed, top-class game in multiplayer mode. [Feb 2007, p.54]

The graphics were amazing, the gameplay was fun and adrenaline filled, and the cover system was implemented successfully.

Pelit (Finland)

Fun and action-packed. Las Vegas is the perfect setup for action. It does get a bit repetitive towards the end, though. [Sept 2007]

GameSpot

Rainbow Six is reinvented and reinvigorated for a new age thanks to beautiful visuals and top-notch tactical shooting action.

While Rainbow Six veterans will surely miss the familiar pre-planning elements of the hallowed franchise, most of the changes made for Vegas successfully ramp up its intensity, and more importantly, its fun. [Mar 2007, p.60]

PC Gamer UK

It might well be more twitch than tactics, but Vegas is the fun, modernised version of its own predecessors and FPS cousin "Brothers in Arms." I reckon that right now you're itching for a shooter with a brain at the top of that jittery reptilian nervous system, and this is it - if you have God's own PC. [Feb 2007, p.84]

Computer Games Online RO

Rainbow Six Vegas isn’t the best tactical shooter ever made, losing a few points in the system requirements and the save system department, but it’s a very good game.

It's a solid action title and really gives a shot in the arm to a franchise that needed a shot in the arm.

IGN

It's a serious system hog and those with older (and even middle-range) systems may have a hell of a time making the game run well and look smooth. Sadly multiplayer has been a big problem for us at this point.

PC Zone UK

The real problem is that it simply isn't as good as it could have been. Erratic AI, overly impervious sidekicks, some suspect voice-acting, patchily impressive and hugely power-hungry visuals. It's a list that adds up to a missed opportunity if ever I've seen one, but while Vegas may not quite have hit the jackpot, it does still manage to walk away a winner.

PC Gameworld

Despite being more action-oriented than tactical, Vegas does have some memorable moments. But the franchise clearly appears to be shifting away from its traditional audience toward a more action-oriented mass market.

The number of options you have on how to tackle each situation makes for some great unscripted moments, and the visuals and sound help create an atmosphere that wouldn't be possible on older hardware.

Game Chronicles

Rainbow Six: Vegas is an obvious port from the 360 and regrettably, a broken one. It has a solid and compelling single-player mode that will keep most gamers engaged for a week or two, but once they try to go online and play all those modes they can see in the menus and find they are all broke and full of glitches, most will walk away in disgust and regret.

While it doesn't elevate Rainbow Six back to the genre-defining franchise it once was, it's still a solid, fun game; plus, thanks to Unreal Engine 3, it looks great.

Eurogamer

It feels like an undecided halfway house between two genres - both of which the PC excels at - and it's incapable of deciding which one it wants to be.

I for one think console gamers can handle a real tactical sim, but I suppose that in this increasingly competitive industry, taking even the slightest risk has become passe.

Jared J gave it a7:
After on-and-off play for ten months I'd finished it and was apauled with the results! I had never been so angry in my life when "To Be Continued" rolled around the screen. My respect for "Rainbow Six" had lowered from a ten to an eight. Only loosers make the "To Be Continued" and this really p***ed me off! Seven for story, graphics, A.I. and voice acting.

Karl L gave it a6:
More Cod then Rainbow 6. Its a fun fps, but everything that would made it a rainbow 6 game has been scrapped. No more planning your attack, no picking the best team members for the job, Limited equipment. Standard linear fps level design instead of the small almost sandbox like areas of previous games. The AI is stupid and trys to shoot you through walls. Regenerating health, Strange system for leaning. Graphics look fairly outdated, Yes it looks (much) worse and runs worse then crysis. That said, as a run of the mill fps its fairly fun. And sometimes it manages to trick you into thinking your being tactical. Wait for it to hit the bargain bins.

Tero U. gave it a10:
Brilliant tactical shooter with enough realism and enough action. It's stupid to whine about lack of realism when the game doesn't even try to be some counter-terrorist -simulator but just one great action game.

Leonardo A. gave it a10:
This game is incredible, the graphics are awesome and the realistic gameplay dominates you even in the first level.Of cource in PC'S that are in the border of the system requirements will won't have good graphics.Well, a game can have Wolfenstein's 3D 1992 graphics, but if the gameplay is good a real gamer can disguise if the game is good or not.

BallisticBaggins gave it a5:
This game could have been one of the best games ever, but for some reason it isn't. The graphics aren't too good, the singleplayer is ok and the multiplayer is most of the time horrible. This game is nothing like the earlier Rainbow Sixes and is not the great realistic tactical shooter the earlier PC releases were. The gameplay in general is ok, but the plot is even worse than in Raven shield. Peeking behind corners is replaced by unrealistic third person camera, which shows everything that happens behind the corners and this encourages camping in the multiplayer. Pistols have unlimited ammount of ammo. It isn't a big problem but it's still unrealistic. Player characters regenerate after beeing damaged, but atleast there is some blur when beeing wounded. Character customization is kinda nice, but compared to Raven shield and other earlier Rainbow six games there is much less weapons and the weapon stats make little sense (for example 5.56mm is often more powerful than 7.62mm NATO. In real life 7.62 NATO has almost twice the ammount of energy than 5.56mm, meaning that it is often more accurate, with longer range and greater damage). Sound suppressors silence the weapon almost completely and without subsonic ammo. Characters also can no longer go prone. While singlplayer still beeing kinda playable, multiplayer screws everything up. The multiplayer suffers from great ammount of different bugs, which in a way or another makes the playing a lot worse experience. One of the bigest and perhaps the most visable bugs is that you can't see your ping or the ping or others, including the servers. Server browser is very very bad and servers can't even have names. These two bugs combined you might rather easily find yourself playing on a korean server with a quite high ping. To addition, the game's netcode is horrible, causing that you have to shoot several meters in advance in order to hit anything (even on a server with a bit smaller ping) and sometimes a bug causes the bullets to actually hit a bit left or right from the sight of the shooter, even if it looks to him that he is hiting in the center of the sights. There are also several sound bugs, graphical bugs and crash bugs. Long story short: This game is a bad port from a console to computer. It is nothing like the Raven shield or others were and if you are thinking about buying it because you liked the earlier games or you like the console version, you should forget it. Singlplayer is ok, but realism has been mostly forgoten and multiplayer has tons of bugs and lots of lag.

Oleg T. gave it a5:
I think we're witnessing the rise of a new genre in the FPS domain. Half-first-person-action, half-tactical (the latter being the lesser half). So we must judge them without looking back at RS: Rogue Spear and the first Ghost Recon. Sure enough, Vegas cannot be compared to the old classic for its shallowness and Hollywood style action, but sadly even without this comparison this game doesn't impress much. With tactical part amputated and action part half-baked we're left with a bleak and jarringly repetitive gameplay (burst open the door, do all the necessary killing, proceed to the next door, repeat ad infinitum). If this is what the "new genre" brings us I'd rather see it stifled to death in its cradle.

Punendra R. gave it a10:
I have played this type of game first in my life and never thought it is as superb as this is really.
