Summary
UEFA EURO 2008 captures the look and feel of the journey from qualification to the finals with rain and mud dynamics that impact playing conditions, real-time player ratings that change based on player performance, and a penalty kick mode that re-creates the elation and agony of a penalty shoot-out as if you were on the pitch. Experience the thrill of scoring the goal that sends your country through to the next round and then choose how to celebrate it with all-new interactive user-controlled celebrations. Captain your country, play alongside your heroes, and inspire them to championship glory in the official videogame of UEFA EURO 2008. A new game mode called Captain Your Country enables gamers to customize them on the pitch and wear the shirt of their national team. Work through eight status levels to earn the captaincy of your team and then lead your country into battle for championship glory against your rivals. Go online in Battle of the Nations to earn status points for yourself and your country in a competition for global supremacy. Go for the biggest upsets to earn the most points and then watch you and your country move up the leader boards. Face the challenge and pressure of competing in the championship rounds in the EURO Online Knockout Draw to test your skills against the world's best. [Electronic Arts]

The big question hanging over Euro 2008 is if it's worth its price tag, given that it's essential a tweaked FIFA 08 and FIFA 09 is only a few months away? The core gameplay has been tweaked enough to make FIFA 08 feel slightly dated, but chances are FIFA 09 will improve on this even further.

Choosing between the PC and PS2 versions, virtually identical, it's the console version that manages to win.

The official Euro 2008 game improves game play but neglects match atmosphere. It's possible to play the Euro qualification matches, using the real groups or by having a new draw, or to edit the Euro 2008 tournament and replace someone e.g. by England. A new campaign mode offers different challenges like winning a penalty shootout or avoiding to lose a match by controlling only one player of your team. The PS2-like engine of the game clearly shows that it's time for EA to sign a contract with fan favourite "Xbox 360 graphics".

There's more Euro '08 hype here than any actual improvement over FIFA 08 we all know and mostly like. Although the action is exciting and spectacular as usual, the ball falls a bit short of the target. [June 2008]
Gameplanet
A good solid soccer title which builds on previous EA soccer titles. Some glitches here and there and a high learning curve means you will need to stick at it, and might put off newcomers to the series. But an incredible match and graphics engine help to make up for this.

For now, next-gen console owners are performing tricks in their new boots while we're looking over the fence in last season's kit. [July 2008, p.82]
PC Format
A disappointing cash-in that somehow manages to offer less than its license-bloated "FIFA" brethren. [July 2008, p.108]
PC PowerPlay
If you’ve been out of the loop for a while and are hankering for some Euro atmosphere this would be a good bet, otherwise it’s hard to justify the asking price. [Jul 2008, p.59]

After having played the next-gen-versions of the game, the PC-version of UEFA Euro 2008 turned out to be a huge disappointment! The general gameplay might be alright, but the graphics suck and the commentary throughout the game is rubbish and mostly boring. My recommendation: If possible, get the versions for 360 or PS3!

Sub-FIFA fare that lets PC gamers down badly. [Aug 2008, p.75]
