Summary

Weird Worlds: Return to Infinite Space is a grand space opera that will take you from a down and out starship captain to an amazing intergalactic hero whose renown travels light speed ahead of you! Set in a randomly generated universe of endless possibilities, this single-player experience will let you explore new worlds, meet exotic aliens, discover black holes, witness the deaths of stars, encounter drifting space hulks that promise untold riches or untimely death, and much, much more! And all this happens in under thirty minutes or less! Although quick to play, Weird Worlds boasts a deep, feature-rich system that ensures each session is as fresh as the first play. Players start off with their choice of one of three ships to explore the universe with, each ship completely customizable through the acquisition of new components, either via trade or encounters. The majority of the game takes place turn-based style on the gorgeously rendered star map (always newly generated each game), and uses a simple one-click system that even your grandmother can quickly master. When your starship encounters hostile aliens the action moves to real-time, and while players have dozens of weapons and tactics at their disposal, the combat system manages to provide this great depth while still maintaining the highly intuitive system of play found elsewhere in the game. Gamezilla!

Those that have been turned off by overly complex space sagas will really enjoy this perfect, “beer and pretzels” style title. Highly recommended for those who miss the simplicity, yet complex nature of the old Star Control titles.

Pelit (Finland)

An excellent bite-sized game that captures the feeling of space exploration nicely. A bit more new content in the upcoming patches would be appreciated. [April 2006]

eToychest

This is the space exploration equivalent of solitaire or hearts; indeed, this game would be a perfect accessory for every PC sold. It is a simple delight that scales to all levels of player and never, ever overstays its welcome.

Eurogamer

The game offers variety, excitement, thought and pace all in tiny bundle you can wolf down in a sandwich break. In fact, that's what this actually reminds me of - the gaming equivalent of a snackette.

Computer Games Magazine

Too random to be called a strategy game, too non-scary to be classified as adventure; think of it as the Cliff’s Notes version of Star Control. [Mar 2006, p.64]

Jeremy F gave it a9:
I love it. It has enough activity going on to keep you interested.

James M. gave it a9:
This game is one of the best I've come across in a very long time. Quick and easy to get into, but it never ceases to be interesting and challenging. Although turn-based, it has live-action combat to keep the most interesting aspects as exciting as they can be.
