A triumph for Massive Entertainment. The developers have managed to take a quirky "action game" take on the real-time strategy genre and wrap it in an instantly appealing, accessible and highly polished package.

Worth Playing
Real-time strategy gamers have become accustomed to things being done a certain way, and while World in Conflict makes massive and sweeping changes to the tried-and-true formula of RTS titles, it does so in such a way that makes other genre offerings pale in comparison.

Gamer's Hell
All in all, World In Conflict offers an awesome amount of bang for your Buck (or Quid if you’re like myself, or perhaps you’ll be spending Euros or Australian Dollars), features plenty of Kablammo! Kicks an awful lot of ass, shows the strategy genre a slightly alternative route and offers hours of intense, cringe inducing (in a good way – only because you’re imagining that poor sod you just nerve gassed) entertainment, suitable for fans of all branches of strategy, and is a fantastic ambassador for bringing in those who wish to start playing strategy games!

Developer Massive Entertainment has been making real-time strategy games for almost a decade now, but World in Conflict is undoubtedly the studio's masterwork. Everything about this game is top-notch, from the addicting gameplay to the amazing visuals. More importantly, World in Conflict offers up a refreshingly new approach to strategy gaming.

It’s a fun, addictive, fast paced, and fresh take on a very stale genre. This is not only one of the PC’s best this year, it’s one of the best games in the genre, period; and we’re talking in the infinite sense.

It’s not very often that a real-time strategy title comes along and changes the way you think about the genre. World in Conflict is one of those, not because all of the ideas are totally new, but because they’re all put together in such a successful way.

You had better get to know the offensive and defensive capabilities of every unit at your disposal – not to mention how they deal with different types of terrain – because no economic wizardry is going to save you here. Lightning-fast tactical combat is all World in Conflict does, and it does it amazingly well.

World in Conflict is a game very much worth purchasing. This one is a certified winner.

World in Conflict isn't about revolutionising the genre - what it does do is reinvigorate it. Combining its fast paced almost action game style single player campaign with a multiplayer component that does actually manage to be sufficiently different from the norm, what you have isn't just a damn good strategy game, but one of the best strategy games of the year.

It's the immediacy of World in Conflict that drives it beyond anything else in the genre. The constantly fast pace, the race to accumulate Tactical Aid points, the relentless explosions and surges make for one of the most exhilarating experiences you'll have from a strategy title.
On so many counts Massive Entertainment have delivered on the "easy to learn, difficult to master" mantra, a strategy game that can be enjoyed by anybody.

The game's intensity grows overwhelming sometimes, especially when timed secondary objectives get piled on top of trying to hold ground against unending waves of Soviet armor. But the amazing graphics and engaging single-player campaign, which deals with the brutality of war, will keep players coming back to keep up the fight.

Multiplayer is far better. It is almost a cross between a strategy and an arcade game in that clearly some strategy will take you a long way, but you welcome to just jump into a game and blow some stuff up and then jump out without a big commitment of either time or brain power on your part. I found it quite addictive.

Let us get this straight; multiplayer will never excuse a short single player experience, no matter how exciting those short hours are. It is especially insulting when the game is just so well balanced, so well designed and so fun to play.

Despite single-player quirks like the crap AI or the sameness of the three factions (the only differences between U.S., NATO, and Russian units are the visuals and the accents when selecting units), the pure focus on tactics plus the FPS-style pacing make WIC a standout. It doesn’t hurt that it has the best visuals of any RTS to date.

Paul K. gave it a10:
World in Conflict features great maps and locations, an immersive storyline which is not great but still entertaining and superior to most other RTS; command of small strike forces of units is great, and like the slightly better Company of Heroes, World in Conflict has a stunning sense of power. Rocket launch systems destroy buildings, you zoom in and hear the crack of tanks main guns, and it really is amazing. I have never encountered any real bugs, and the interface is responsive. Every command I give works, and performance is good.

Jeff C. gave it an8:
This is truly a great game. The campaign is well written, and very fun. I didn't like the gameplay all that much, then again its not the game's fault, its because I've been playing traditional RTS's for way too long, this game is technically a RTT not an RTS. The units were fun to use and the story is very immersive. If your not a RTS junkie like me, you will want to pick up World in Conflict, because its easier to learn how to play when compared to more traditional RTS's. This is very similar to Battalion Wars 1&2 for the Gamecube and Wii, which was great to begin with, but with improved graphics this RTT is truly worth it!

Edoardo V gave it a9:
Only after some patched that solved the many performance issues this game can show how fast is modern war! The single player campaign is creative and immersive, but it's the multiplayer game that reveals the true power of this game. Coordination between players, to mount combined-arms assaults and manouvers, is essential. I will not mention the graphic, but the sound very good sound choice and the intuitive interface. This game may appear simple with no resources to harvest or bases to defend, but just surviving the World War 3 carnage is hard enough.

Tal gave it a1:
Come on! Didn't symmetrical faction design die in the 90's. Was all the time spent making this game look pretty so that it would get good reviews?Seriously, this could have been so much better. What a waste.

MercFox1 gave it a10:
World In Conflict is a perfect example of a game that's completely misunderstood. That said, World In Conflict had one of the best single-player experiences I've ever had (including Deus Ex, Half-Life 1 & 2, and Starcraft). The writing is superb, and the tension leading up to the end is palpable, making the campaign one of the best (albeit shortest) I've ever played. Now, the majority of the game's value lies in Multiplayer. Having been through both closed and open betas, I've seen firsthand the evolution of this game from a multiplayer standpoint. Those who say the sides are similar tend to forget how mirrored each modern army is to the next; tanks, APCs, infantry are all integral parts...Massive wasn't going to include Arbiters or Mammoth Tanks just to satiate the fanboys, and not to mention how that would completely wreck the atmosphere of 1989 American and European vistas. Instead, the burden of the balance falls to the players of multiplayer. Your dominance directly falls to how well you play as your role and how well you play as a team. Because this is such a new experience, (no other RTS has weighted so much of the success upon proper cooperation) a majority of casual RTS gamers are overwhelmed by the new coordination that is required of them. While I don't mean for this to be a psycoanalytical study of other users posts, when people get beat, they tend to complain. That said, if you approach WiC Multi with a rambo-like attitude, you will get destroyed. It's as simple as that. On a side note, those that are complaining that this is a failed RTS say so out of ignorance. Massive never meant for this to be an RTS. They've said from the beginning of the development it is oriented around combat and coordination and not base building or resource gathering. Do not come to this game expecting an RTS and then proceed to sully its name by stating things that are simply not true.

GlowBug gave it a1:
A not so perfect blend of fantastic visuals and horrible gameplay. If you like games that look great, but play like a hard turd in an ice storm, World in Conflict is for you.

Jake K. gave it a0:
A triumph in symmetry and genericism. Remove the graphics from this game and you have nothing more than a generic strategy game with very bad controls, even C&C 3 is better than WIC and that's not saying much. Do NOT, I repeat DO NOT buy this stinker. Try the demo first as the press reviews are based purely on graphics and not game-play.
