Summary
Born from the unnatural union of vampire and human, BloodRayne is blessed with the powers of a vampire but cursed with the unquenchable thirst for blood and a weakness to sunlight. BloodRayne 2 challenges the supernatural anti-heroine with her most personal battle yet as she hunts down each of her wicked siblings who are carrying on the legacy of their dead father, Kagan. They have created "The Shroud," a mysterious substance which, when released, renders the suns lethal rays harmless to vampires. Now only BloodRayne stands between an unsuspecting humanity and a horrifying vampire dawn. Expanding upon the distinctive features that were the hallmark of its predecessor fast-paced acrobatic combat and supernatural powers BloodRayne 2 includes new in-game dynamics such as pole combat, rail sliding and advanced melee fighting with fatality moves. Built upon a modified version of the Infernal Engine, BloodRayne 2 introduces threatening new bosses, all new environments set within a huge modern day city, a range of new supernatural powers and new motion-captured movements complete with soft-body physics. Official U.S. Playstation Magazine
Out of nowhere, BloodRayne 2 ranks among PS2's best hack-n-slash titles. [Dec 2004, p.124]
Gaming Nexus
It’s not groundbreaking, but the intense action and decent mission structure will allow you to shut your brain off and have a great time.

My one bit of constructive criticism is to suggest that the developer have the team that worked on the CG stuff do all the movies for the next game while they concentrate fully on making Rayne’s next adventure even more of a kick ass gaming experience.

A very solid action game. The game’s gameplay is good enough and it is just oozing with production value.

It’s not too hard, and it’s not too boring which equates to a fairly good game. But because of the nature of its design it also isn’t very replayable as there is little to no reason to go back and do it all again.

One of the few things that can be said about BloodRayne 2 is that it’s a nice looking title. The character model for Rayne looks extremely detailed, as do the character models for some of the main enemies.

Thanks to how the harpoon has been integrated into the extensive environmental interaction, and the superior visuals, and more varied gameplay, BloodRayne 2 stands above the original.

While this sequel does succeed in proving Rayne is more than a pretty face, a few more tweaks are needed before her playtime prowess matches her dark mystique. [Nov 2004, p.147]
Inside Gamer Online
A decent action game with a lot of nifty gameplay twists thrown in for good measure. While we wish BloodRayne moved a bit better than she does, no one can argue that she brings a sexy darkness to an action game (ahem) dripping with personality.

Isn’t a great game, but it’s a lot of fun. Look at it as the popcorn movie of the game world, it’s really pretty, but only skin (or polygon?) deep.

A total guilty pleasure, but a pleasure nonetheless. [Holiday 2004, p.94]
Play Magazine
While playing B2 on PS2 makes you appreciate the Xbox version all the more, by PS2 standards, TR has done a great job of cramming it into the PS2 shell. [Dec 2004, p.81]
GameSpot
Provides a viscerally enjoyable experience pretty much from beginning to end. The game certainly has its blemishes, and it's definitely not the deepest or headiest action title you'll ever experience, but underneath those problems is a stylish and gory action game with enough kills and thrills to keep you entertained.

Qualifies fine and well as a Barbie for boys, but as an action game it is dull and mediocre, and sinks into the oblivion where it belongs. Pretty graphics, though. [May. 05]
Jolt Online Gaming UK
As great as it is to be sliding down a banister firing off both guns before holding out your blades to slice into two anyone unlucky enough to be standing near the bottom as you pass, the sloppy controls and quirks in the design do prevent BR2 from being anything more than a reasonably-decent third-person action-slasher.

Everything the original should have been two years ago but wasn’t: intense, gritty, ultra-violent, stylish and a lot of fun to play through... ONCE!
Had a lot of potential but didn't do enough with it. They focused a little too much on Rayne's abilities and not enough on trying to make the game more difficult, and more challenging.
For a lot of players, the excellent graphics and high levels of violence and sex appeal will be more than enough to keep Bloodrayne 2 spinning. It's really a shame that the A.I. is so daft, and even with all the acrobatics, the very linear levels don't truly captivate.
Despite Rayne’s new abilities, you’re still doing pretty much the same thing as before—slashing up wimpy guys, defeating bosses, and then doing it all over again after the next save point. (Even worse, the old camera problems are still there—you’ll get blindsided by enemies all the time simply because you had no advance warning of their presence.)
Electronic Gaming Monthly
Sex and violence are the stars, but clever, well-delivered dialogue carries an entertaining vampire apocalypse plot well above current game standards. [Holiday 2004, p.106]
G4 TV
The attempt to add depth to the game hasn’t really succeeded, but the combat still feels fun.

The game is a showcase for the lead character and not an inspired one at that.
Read Full Review >Computer and Video Games
This is a lazy, by-the-numbers sequel to a game that didn't exactly grab us by the throat first time around. Ladling on the gore and heaping on the sex can't disguise how average BloodRayne 2 really is.

While other games have moved onwards and upwards ("Ratchet & Clank", "Jak" etc), Miss Rayne is treading water.
Forgoes the spunk of its predecessor in a vain attempt to update and build a franchise, and brings mediocrity to an all time record by managing to be absolutely average in every aspect except plot—where it manages to be different and be dismal.

It feels like a one-night brainstorming session came up with a whole bunch of random ideas thrown in a pot and clumsily stirred. There might be a good game in here somewhere, but it needs to cook a lot longer.

Barbiq62 gave it a10:
From one who once thought the GTA series were the best ps2 games of all time, Bloodrayne2 blows them away. Watching her feed is so erotic! But there's so much more to this game than that.
Zombie gave it a10:
this is my absolute favourite game EVER(except for possible games from the future) nice and bloody with kick ass combos (some of the combos are so cool and "hidden" that they are almost like killing with a broken easter egg shell!) I recomend this game for people who live in thier video games Anywho, if you're not increadibly stupid than this game is esspecially good for getting rid of the real rage through satisfying that blood lust, and even if you're not angrey it's still fun and you'll probably sooner or later get angry by simply playing the game due to the plott line.
Sonia G. gave it a9:
An incredible action/adventure experience. Best of 2004.
Night O. gave it a10:
I bought this game the minute I saw it on the shelves. I really didn't know a part 2 was released. Everything about this game is great, grapics, sound, bonus movies, the secret pass codes, her outfits...ect...But If I had one complaint, If would be the fact That I miss her super close-up vision thats she aquires in B1. Shooting targets at close range, while still far away was cool. Looking foward for BR3..and 4.
Ivan F. gave it a 7:
The game is fun and the graphics are much better than the first game, but Bloodrayne 2 could be more enjoyable if the levels and enemies were more varied. A game that features vampires should include more outdoor nightime levels. Too much of the game is played inside. The gameplay is acceptable. Rayne's movement and appearance has improved and controlling her is much easier. If Majesco decides to make Bloodrayne 3 (and I think it will judging by the ending) a more interesting level design should be considered.
