Summary
(Known as "Ricky Ponting International Cricket 2005" in Aus/NZ) Brian Lara International Cricket - bat, bowl and field with the real professionals in officially licensed tournaments, ICC Champions Trophy and ICC Cricket World Cup. Designed as the ultimate hit and run experience, Brian Lara International Cricket will come packed with official tournament content thanks to a licence from the International Cricket Council (ICC), the governing body for international cricket, Codemasters announced today. You’ll be able to step up to the crease and compete with the professionals in the ICC Cricket World Cup and the ICC Champions Trophy - cricket's most challenging tournaments. The ICC licensed events feature all the official ICC One-Day International teams, with 16 players per squad, and stadia from around the world, including The Oval, Newlands, and Edgbaston, Brian Lara International Cricket will be a truly authentic experience. The ICC deal also brings authentic strips and real name players with detailed facial likenesses to the tournaments. So when you play in the ICC Champions Trophy or ICC CWC, in addition to Brian Lara himself, you’ll be facing world-class bouncers from the world’s greatest bowlers, including Wasim Akram, Glenn McGrath or Andrew Flintoff or trying to send the bails flying from cricket’s best batsmen such as Sachin Tendulkar, Ricky Ponting, or Andrew Strauss. The scale of difficulty is excellent from the pick-up-and-play joys of Slog mode to the nearly impossible hit-the-ball-off-the-square Test level - this makes the game as arcade-y or realistic as you like, and the batting and bowling are both intuitive and subtle. Comfortably the best cricket game on PS2.

Despite some minor graphical and PS2-controlled player niggles, this remains a great cricket debut, where every single ball becomes a test of nerve, skill and timing. [PSW]

A good looking, easy to pick up and play cricket game with a lot of depth for those of you willing to try the higher skill levels. It does get quite hard but there are options there for the beginning and it is one of the best sports titles released recently.

The level of difficulty starts at slog, a perfect way to get to grips with the controls, which are simple but full of subtle variations that can be exploited in the harder levels (village, county, Test).

Intelligent design and strong mechanics have resulted in one of the finest sports games you'll play this year. Thoroughly recommended.

The stark, sad reality is this: if you fancy a cricket game that is to real cricket as 20/20 is to the test match, then you’ll love Brian Lara 2005. If you want a good simulation of the game, then there is no option open to you. The great majority of gamers won’t care, though; they’ll be too impressed by the surprisingly successful return of Brian Lara Cricket.

The best thing about the game has to be its gameplay. It’s fast and addictive.

Quite simply the best cricket game yet. [Jan 2007, p.106]

Superior to the recently released "Cricket 2005" from EA, and the only real cricket game worthy of your time. What does that mean to the cricket fans amongst us? Simply put its time to blast out some ‘Soul Limbo’ to the most refined cricket game currently available.

The exaggerated style of the visuals takes a bit of getting used to, but otherwise the overall presentation is satisfyingly accurate. Even good old Hawkeye makes an appearance, although sadly there's no Snickometer.

Make it a little less serious and more open arms to players that want to get into a cricket game. Surely a tutorial with some useful hints and interactive instruction isn't too much to ask?

It may not be perfect, then, but whereas EA "Cricket 2005" was less predictable than the English weather in July, this Brian Lara effort is varied and entertaining without forcing you to sit there feeling like your head's number than your backside and that you've wasted your time turning up at all.

For cricket aficionados, Brian Lara International Cricket 2005 certainly seems to have it all; the different cricket formats are here, and whilst it may not be as slick as EA’s "Cricket 2005," Lara feels like a very close representation of the game.

The series hasn't moved on since its heyday on the first PlayStation, and all that’s happened in the intervening demi-decade is that the graphics are a bit better, the commentary has got worse, and they're no longer using the proper player names.

You will not get better gameplay or game modes on PS2
Richard gave it an8:
Quite easy to get the hang of, lots of things to unlock. an enjoyable game
The Unknown gave it a10:
Cool game, easy to pick up, and really addictive. It does beat the Ea Sport Games I reckon. That's why its voted hands down, the best cricket game ever released.
Richard R. gave it an8:
Very Addictive Game, however just like every sports game the commentary is awful and Im sorry but I dont know one wicketkeeper that can hit the stumps everytime whilst standing back to fast bowlers!
Suraj J. gave it a9:
I think this game is truly great. It has all the features a good cricket game needs, the gameplay is great and the graphics are quite good.I have it on playstation 2 and i really like to play the game.
Gurbir D. gave it an8:
This game was nothing special but still enjoyable. The graphics could be more realistic. The most annoying thing is that all the names are wrong. There is lots to unlock and overall a goood game.

<> Huh? Most of that isn't even true...there IS variable weather...I HAVE been offered to go off for light...there is rain etc....batting is much harder and more challenging on TEST level.....certain barsmen DO start with high confidence...I mean seriously....if you are an EA fanboy...go play another game of madden..b/c their effort at cricket is nothing short of abysmal. Fact.
