Games Radar UK (Pre-2006)
[Scoring note: "Direct Hit" = 100] A ram-jammed, brain-scrambling eye shag.
Official U.S. Playstation Magazine
A tense, exciting and genuinely thrilling experience. [Jan 2002, p.125]

Pure exhilaration; its an adrenaline-fuelled romp that will satisfy even the most extreme racers out there.

If you're looking for a good, solid racing game that will absolutely, positively satisfy your need for an overabundance of speed and destruction, this is THE game for you.

More than good, really, more situated in the whole amazing/incredibly addictive/cleverly balanced extreme.

It's got the racing dynamic of EA's "Need for Speed" and Acclaim's "Test Drive" series, but the speed and abandon of "Crazy Taxi" and "Driver."

A racing title that blends adrenaline-pumping racing action to its purest level. Excellent physics detection and even better physical car damage and being topped off with crisp sound makes Burnout a title that should not be overlooked.

Almost akin to what alcoholics would call a "moment of clarity", a prolonged amount of play reveals Burnout to suddenly be a far more enjoyable game than initially realised.

Not only is this game a veritable orgy of enjoyment, it also manages to look and feel just as appealing.

So the control is a little squirrelly and the music tries for Mozart but hits Muzak instead? It doesn't matter, because the game has an overall sensation of speed and danger that forgives a lot of the flaws.

One of the most intense and entertaining racing games on the PS2, complete with tight controls and impressive graphics.

Sure, crashing is discouraging, but Burnouts are quite a show, and you can even save your greatest hits to a memory card.

The sound is undoubtedly Burnout's biggest flaw. The music is absolutely horrendous and deserves to be turned off at the first possible opportunity.

Theres not anything earth-shatteringly new in Burnout, but overall its a lot of fun to play.

A solid driver, with good control and some decent graphics, but that's about it. [Jan 2002, p.80]
TotalGames.net
Burnout is the worst example to date as you can be in first place yet still run out of time, a facet which is both infuriating, common to several courses and, considering the likelihood of at least a few collisions, utterly predictable.

While a fun and frantic racing game it doesn't scream out innovative and fresh.

Its just one of those incredibly intuitive pick-up-and-start-powersliding types of racing games. [Jan 2002, p.202]

Tight controls are a huge redeeming factor in this game. All the vehicles in the game are very easy to maneuver.

A brilliant game if experienced in short bursts... the game was obviously not designed with long term play in mind.

Though the game has it's fun points, it comes off as somewhat bland, and you may be a little disappointed.

AI concerns make driving into oncoming traffic easier than it should be, while the moderate, but not extensive amount of cars and tracks mean that you'll be able to wrap up single player in less than ten hours.

Unfortunately despite the novel approach, the execution of this racer fails to create a classic.

Jared C. gave it a0:
It has unbelievable graphic's, poor gameplay, dull features, and nothing special at all. When I played this game, I had a good time, but once I got so used of it, I sold it, you know why? Because it was boring playing the same 10 god forsaken levels over and over again, and just crashing into cars. At least having 1 race to make the game somewhat enjoyable. I lost interest 2 hours into the game. And adding an adventure would be nice too, multiplayer can be so frustarting after a while. Because what if you were an only child and the game was multiplayer, you would have no other choice but to invite a friend over, but what if your a loner and don't have any friends, you invite your cousins, but what if there busy or on vacation. There are many risks in this game with no cheats, secret passage ways, and an amount of flaws. That is why a 0/10 is this game's main role, a horrid waste of time.
Brian N. gave it a9:
great physics. This games adds a new kick to racing.
Ben N. gave it a 9:
This game is beta then Burnout 2 ! every1 rates it so low coz they suck at it.
Bill K. gave it a 10:
I'm giving this game a 10 because there was nothing like it when it came out (Now there's Need for Speed: HP2 and Burnout 2). GT3 is impressive, but with all its technical depth, its not as fun to me as a "shallow" arcade racer that's all about pure feel of speed and to hell with real-life physics. I'm still playing this game 3 years later. Some will whine that the crash replays take away from your time...they don't. The clock stops while they show them. And when you restart you haven't lost any ground to other cars from the replays...just from the crash itself. This game is FAST, tense, and fun. A classic.
Snelly A. gave it a 6:
This games ok. There are some pretty neat crashes, but the music to it sucks. Very repetitive.
Jack M. gave it a 7:
When i first got this game i couldn't out my controller down, but now i think that it gets annoying when u c ur crash three times. the crashes aint that great anyway. some tracks get boring as they are way to long. a good thing is that u can barge ur oppenent into oncoming traffic. as i sed b 4 i couldn't put it down but now it is just picking up dust under my shelfs.
Carl A. gave it a 10:
I rented it from Blockbuster I couldn't stop it about two weeks late from return. This game ROCKZ.
