Summary

Disney's Extreme Skate Adventure marks the first time Buzz Lightyear and Woody from Walt Disney Pictures' presentation of Pixar Animation Studios' "Toy Story 2," Young Tarzan and Terk from Disney's "Tarzan" and Simba and Rafiki from "The Lion King" have been showcased in the same video game. Players skate as their favorite characters, performing moves such as ollies, rail grinds, spins and other expert balance moves. The characters from the films can skate through each of their respective worlds, such as Simba and Rafiki in Pride Rock, Young Tarzan and Terk in the "Jungle Treehouse" and Disney/Pixar's Buzz Lightyear and Woody in Pizza Planet, and interact with the other characters that live in those worlds. The game also provides an abundance of fun and offers players unique skateboards that resemble items found in their respective worlds including bamboo rafts, frying pans and other themed items. Beyond the skateboard challenge there are puzzles to solve, secret areas to explore and collectibles to find on each level of the game. [Activision]

GameNow

I actually dig this game. It's so good, I can even deal with the cutesy characters. [Oct 2003, p.60]

Cheat Code Central

Hands down this is the best child-oriented game I've ever had the pleasure of playing and that's because Disney Extreme Skate Adventure goes to great lengths NOT to insult the gamers intelligence and skills.

Game Chronicles

Much like the wholesome Kix breakfast cereal, Disney’s Extreme Skate Adventure has seemingly been "kid-tested, mother-approved" for quality. It’s not just kid stuff, mind you.

Official U.S. Playstation Magazine

The visuals, gameplay, and essentially everything else that makes the "THPS" series so great is evident here. [Oct 2003, p.116]

GMR Magazine

The only knock on the game might be its difficulty. It's a hard world, after all, but the game's target audience (children) might find DESA too tough to master. [Oct 2003, p.70]

PSM Magazine

It's corny, but the solid "Hawk"-inspired gameplay cannot be denied. [Nov 2003, p.48]

Yahoo! Games

An excellent merging of two popular properties, this is one "kiddie" game that you shouldn't overlook just because it has the Disney name stamped on the side.

Disney's Extreme Skate Adventure's ingredients are like those of a delicious cake. You've got high-quality eggs, flour and milk (the Tony Hawk engine); rich, irresistible chocolate (Tony Hawk-style gameplay); and a sugary-sweet frosting that's too good to miss (Disney characters).

Not only is it fun for Disney lovers, it's a good time for skateboarding fans looking for creative environments or a more forgiving learning curve. [Oct 2003, p.123]

IGN

One of the best examples of a game that appeals and caters to a younger age bracket while still maintaining a level of gameplay quality and intellectual decency lacking in so many other "kids games."

Game Over Online

What this all boils down to is a solid and intuitively controlled skating game that is optimized for younger players but also quite fun for fans of the Tony Hawk series.

Personally, I don't have any place for a game like this on my shelf when I already have the whole Tony Hawk dynasty. Would I recommend it to my friends that have kids? Surely.

Won't hold the Tony Hawk pro's attention for long, but it's still a fun, well-designed skating game.

PSX Nation

There’s just something weird about playing a Disney-sanctioned, watered-down version of "Tony Hawk 4" that will put-off as many grown-up players as it will enchant.

To say that Disney's Extreme Skate Adventure has the worst soundtrack of any game EVER, is an understatement.

This game is really fun to play. The levels and characters are well thought out and kid friendly. The people that say this game is stupid, that is nonsense. I play this game all the time!

John S. gave it a 10:
Great game for kids & adults. Easy gameplay for kids, & tougher objectives for the "Big Kids."

Jim J. gave it a 9:
Well-designed and highly-entertaining. A fun skating game with great animations and big levels. Hawk fans, especially younger ones, will have a great time playing.
