Summary
Set in Hazzard County, players step into the shoes of Bo and Luke Duke as they race to win prize money in order to save the local orphanage from Boss Hogg's latest crooked scheme. With the help of the ever-popular Daisy Duke, Uncle Jesse and Cooter, the good ol' boys go up against the villainous Boss Hogg, his bumbling cohorts Sheriff Rosco P. Coltrane and Deputy Enos in order to win the Hazzard County Derby. Just like the television show, The Dukes of Hazzard: Return of the General Lee is filled with wild off-road action, gravity-defying stunts and adrenaline-pumping car chases. Dukes World: The game captures all the joyriding thrills and homespun action of the original television show. Dukes Celebrity: Full cast represented from the show, with voice-overs and likenesses from John Schneider (Bo Duke), Tom Wopat (Luke Duke), Catherine Bach (Daisy Duke), James Best (Roscoe P. Coltrane), Ben Jones (Cooter) and Sonny Shroyer (Enos Strate). Variety of Playable Vehicles: Players can control a variety of vehicles including the General Lee, the Black Charger, Uncle Jesse's Pickup, Daisy's Road Runner, Cooter's Tow Truck, Rosco and Enos's Police Cruisers, and Boss Hogg's limousine. Variety of Gameplay: Features a single-player Adventure Mode containing over 18 missions and an unlockable multiplayer mode that features destruction derby battles, head-to-head competition and cooperative play. Game Chronicles
The control of the vehicles is tricky to master but possible if you have the patience.

A great game for the over-30 crowd, though, which is something we don't get to say often. [Dec 2004, p.108]
WHAM! Gaming
Word of advice to the developers: When creating the next installment of this franchise, do what you did with the presentation end of things, and almost completely rip-off "Grand Theft Auto," and their gameplay. It’ll make this sort of title appeal to almost everyone.

The General Lee's controls are really rough. I don't think I have played a driving game that handles this poorly. It's so loose that sometimes it's outright hard to control.

If "Driver" married its cousin, there's a good chance the spawn of said union would look a lot like The Dukes of Hazzard: Return of the General Lee. [Oct 2004, p.129]

Too bad the sugar in this car's tank comes in the form of handling that is as unresponsive as heavily handling can be. Driving like the Good Ol' Boys is often a matter of luck, while that holler button does get annoying after a few hours.

It features a plot worthy of the TV series, a number of the original TV actors reprising their roles...and boring, frequently broken gameplay that absolutely ruins the entire experience.

The car never really feels grounded, but rather appears to float at a high rate of speed. It doesn't take much more than too much gas and too sharp a turn to start spinning, adding unnecessary aggravation to some of the longer missions.

Gameplay is nothing but slippery physics and monotonous driving around Hazzard County through 15 different "Driver" knockoff missions. [Holiday 2004, p.96]
GameZone
Its true to the show that inspired it in almost every possible way but Return of the General Lee just falls flat thanks to awful controls and several glaring glitches scattered throughout.

Its not a fun game, and what little is here gets real old real fast.

Here, the game is little more than an excuse to take a tour through Hazzard County in 3D and drive recklessly. This would almost be appealing, but problems quickly pop up here, there, and, you guessed it, everywhere. The biggest problem is with the General Lee's control and it goes on from there.

The whole nostalgia thing was nostalgic a few years ago. Thats a sad state of affairs, folks. Are we so void of new material, or can we spread our creative wings a little more than this?

What can I tell you except to stay away from Hazzard County at all costs.

It is fun to go around doing some crazy stunts, but it can get old after a while. Unfortunately that's the only fun part of the game.

It feels like every single car in the game is driving around on bald tires. No matter what you do, youll be sliding off the road.

How many rednecks does it take to enjoy The Dukes of Hazzard: Return of the General Lee? Three! One to play it, one to drink his beer and one to shoot the player when he asks to be put out of his misery. Unless youre a die-hard fan, look elsewhere.

[Anonymous] gave it a 1:
How does it get any worse - this is horrible! Take a classic TV series and make it so plain boring and lacking gameplay, its wrong that such games even get made! I couldnt give it 0, because there must be worse.. right?
Boss Hawg gave it a 3:
So mediocre, wopat and co. can marshall in a new era of boredom. f the creators and the quick buck.
JON E. gave it a 10:
