I enjoyed the violence in Dynasty Warriors 3. However dignified the games treatment of its subject may be, I was neither appalled nor enlightened by the violence. I was thrilled by it.

Fun, exciting, tough, and educational - don't let that last part scare you. By the time you realize you've learned something, there will be thousands of slain warriors at your feet.

There are those ever-pesky inadequacies in the engine which project simply dreadful draw distances in addition to creating the dual annoyances of fog and slowdown.

A good game that delivers a great sense of action, even if it's slightly redundant in nature.

Multiplayer modes, over 20 varied stages and thirty characters that can be unlocked give the game enough substance to keep you interested for weeks.

By adding more depth and a much needed multiplayer mode, Koei has improved the series. So if you're a fan of beat 'em up action on a massive level, this is definitely the game for you.

Along with "Halo" and "Half-Life", DW3 is one of the most fun single-player AND two-player co-op experiences that console gamers can enjoy in 2001 and beyond.

Its the best action-oriented war game on the planet, flaws and all. [Jan 2002, p.208]

Offers lengthy replay value by allowing players to take up a number of roles on all three sides in the otherwise fixed campaign.

For those with dedication and a love for repetitive gameplay, DW3 gives you a lot of bang for your buck. It will take weeks to unlock everything, and you can even get chunks of historical info.

Much like the gameplay, this sequel is highly repetitive and loaded with technical difficulties. [Jan 2002, p.78]

What if those mists could be lifted to reveal the full extent of the battlefield, with catapults and battering rams laying siege to castles in the distance?

More a refined version of Dynasty Warriors 2 than a completely new game.

By far the best aspect of this game, which really separates this from number 2, is the ability to play musou mode with 2 players cooperating.

The end result is, like the best blockbuster movies, a flawed but enjoyable waste of time.

Akucat gave it a 10:
Great game. This is one of those games you can play even after you beat it over and over again. The variety of characters also makes it a great game. This is kind of like Super Mario Smash Brothers, it will never really get old. My first favortie ps2 game out there.
Joe C. gave it a 10:
One of the greatest games ever invented!
S.B. gave it a 10:
2nd best game on the market in my opinion.Ive beat DW3 multiple times.I fall in love with it all over again every time I play it.Its action mixed with adventure. Its all the fun from Tekken Tag Tournement and Tekken 3 put together and a bag of chips.Voices come a little early befor the characters mouth is moveing but the 4th weapons make up for that.Musics decent but it could be improved.Havent found a better action/adventure game yet except for DW4.10/10
