Everything that made EFMI so great on the PC arrives on the PS2 perfectly intact. The games many puzzles are perfectly balanced.

Great graphics that remain true to the series' roots, wonderful animation, the classic Monkey Island humor is present in full force.

You really cant go wrong with this finale to a LucasArts legacy, so be sure not to miss the boat. [Aug 2001, p.111]

You hardcore adventurers already love it, and you newbies out there are in for a real treat, and you are to be envied.

Not a traditional type of game we expect to see on a home console. This quality PC conversion only begs the question, "why haven't we?" May the seaweed be with you!

It looks good, it's easy to control, it has classic puzzles, and more than anything, it's a heck of a laugh. All that, and monkeys to boot.

What you'll get with EFMI is a rich adventure game that entertains with its quick wit and colorful characters.

I do not recommend trying to drink anything while conversations are going on. The laughs come fast and furious, usually when you least expect them.

Graphically the game is excellent and there are lots of quirky touches, such as the darts players in the local inn who throw a dart directly at the camera ''smashing'' the screen.

The voice acting is superb and the dialogue is witty. Couple that with a ridiculous story and you're guaranteed to at one point or another actually laugh out loud. Like the time when.... er...guess I'll be giving stuff away....crap.

It's one of the more unusual games available to date for the PS2, and its warm, tropical environments and great cast of characters will make you feel right at home right away.

Simply the greatest point-and-click adventure game to date, whilst it may seam a little strange at time hang on there you will be rewarded in the end.
Hot Games
The games best aspect by far is the sound and the hours of dialogue which make up the base of the games audio.

Escape from Monkey Island is a wonderful romp filled with memorable characters, excellent voice acting, and clever puzzles.

Quite simply it's very funny, great fun to play, but infuriatingly difficult and obscure in places. It's well animated, really colourful, beautifully voiced, original and lengthy.

This one delivers on the most part, but I would have liked to see a little less humor and a little more in challenges to be met.

A breath of fresh air in a market saturated with generic driving and shooting titles.

There were so many hilarious phrases and humorous insults in this game that I can't even begin to remember them all.

If it were just a little less linear, a little bit longer and a little less unforgiving in some of its latter stumpers (lots of 'littles' for a game trying to compensate for its lack of... well, you know!)

If youre keen on tasteless, tongue-in-cheek jokes, smooth sailing lies ahead.

Derek G. gave it a10:
I want monkey island 4.
Alex K. gave it a 9:
As a devoted fan of the entire series and of all LucasArts graphic adventures in general, I obviously have a huge bias towards loving this game. It truly is fantastic, but what's most surprising is that the console version is so far superior to the PC one. Not only is the control scheme infinitely more intuitive, but the absence of hardward specs and inclusion of DualShock makes it a much more enjoyable experience. If you like adventures, buy the game: it's the best out there for the PS2 (yes, better than "Shadow of Destiny"). I only refrain from giving it a 10 because of the occasionally annoying load times and the very occasionally obscure puzzle that we all knew would be in there.
Matt H. gave it an 8:
I really liked it, it's another great game from Lucas Arts, the only thing I didn't like is the fact that there's only a limited number of things you can take but overall I thought it was a great game.
Rhys P. gave it a 9:
As a devoted Monkey Island fan, I found it to be an excellent 4th chapter in a great series of games. I preferred it in the classic cartoon media, but Lucasarts have pulled it off as a computer animated title that is a joy to play. Some problems with loading times.
Morten R. gave it a 9:
I love it. Funnier than ever. The graphics rock!
