Summary
EyeToy: Kinetic offers a wide variety of fitness activities that far exceeds the traditional 'home workout video'. The EyeToy camera, with the addition of a newly developed Wide Angled Lens that attaches to the front of the camera, allows for increased levels of interactivity projecting the exerciser's image onto the television screen, enabling them to physically interact with their environments. With four areas of discipline to choose from, EyeToy: Kinetic offers a wide variety of exercises for players to choose from. Aero Motion and Combat zones help to increase the player's overall fitness level, inspired by moves and stances from activities such as Tai Kwon Do, Modern Dance, Kick Boxing, Aerobics and Karate. The Mind and Body zone focuses on breathing, concentration and flexibility, taking inspirations from Yoga and Tai Chi, leaving players feeling relaxed, yet with their body fully conditioned. The Toning zone helps the player to tone specific muscle groups utilizing slow and refined movements. [SCEE]

Each activity comes with a tutorial from a virtual instructor, and as you kick out at the falling balloons on the TV screen it’ s impossible not to smile. And how often do you see that down the gym?

A wonderful, innovative advancement for Sony’s peripheral. The game has wonderful graphics, sound and options. The only problem with it is that setting up can be irritating and the camera is still imprecise.

If you're serious about getting fit, this game will absolutely help you with that. There's still overcoming the mental blocks and motivational issues, but the fun factor eases these problems in a fantastic way. This is the reason the EyeToy was made.

It's not for everyone, of course, but for those looking to shed some weight or strengthen muscles, including your heart and mind, this title is an extraordinary one worth spending time with.

With a regimental programme of exercises broken up into mini-games and more 'traditional' moves such as squats and push-ups the title certainly offers those willing to take the plunge an alternative to the gym or impact sports. This is an EyeToy title with actual substance and far exceeds our expectations.

This is a serious fitness tool. You don't need costly equipment and the entire package costs less than an average month at the gym. It's also a great alternative for those that may be self-conscious about going to one.

A competent physical training application. Too bad the EyeToy camera needs so much light. [Dec 2005]
PGNx Media
If you intend to use the game as it was designed, you’ll probably be in better physical shape because of it. However, as with any workout program, you’ll only get as much out of it as you put in so don’t cheat the game!

Just about every gamer I know could benefit from a bit more physical activity and this is a fun way to do it.

Between the fun I had playing it, the fitness boost I've gained from it (body fat now 13% and dropping if you want numbers), the awareness and discipline it's taught me and the sheer enthusiasm it's reawakened in me to turn on my PS2 for an hour almost every night, EyeToy: Kinetic distinguishes itself until it is, almost, virtually unassailable.

It's a great way to fool yourself into thinking you're having fun, when in reality you're having fun and benefiting from the games that require the use of muscles other than the ones inside your fingers and thumbs.

A decent workout routine generator with fun games that will keep you interested and sweaty.

Fitness-based games are exactly new, but Sony manages to make workout fun and personal with the amazing Eye Toy gadget. This might just be what the doctor ordered.

It's a solid exercise program and something that fully demonstrates the EyeToy's flexibility for gaming, fulfilling the concept of player/game immersion.

One of the best uses for the Eyetoy yet and one of the most enjoyable exercise games you're likely to find.

Good game variety, nice customization options. [Nov 2005, p.93]
PALGN
Don't go in there expecting fun mini games. Instead, this is strictly a fitness title, yet it's quality means there's genuine potential here to carve out a new genre within videogaming.

I had some trouble aligning the camera to work best for some routines, but Kintetic is still easily the best way to fight the physical inactivity we gamers are prone to. [Nov 2005, p.161]
IGN
A very nifty exercise package that makes great use of the EyeToy. It's not quite perfect, as dodging some objects may slow down the pace, and you might not tend to use your legs like Kinetic may intend, but regardless of that it's an impressive exercise package.

Offering encouragement and useful tips, as well as warnings about common exercise mistakes and pitfalls, the on-screen trainers are a fantastic resource.

One of the main problems with Kinetic is that players need an awful lot of room to play this game. So unless a particular PS2 is not located in the vicinity of a small room or a crowded living room, players may have some difficulty with performing exercises without breaking some indoor furniture.

Offers a surprisingly good personal training program but does make hearty demands of your lighting and space requirements.

Unlike other fitness games, EyeToy: Kinetic really sucks you in because you get immediate personal feedback. That's a real technological advancement -- something that might even make you want to jump up off that couch.

If you are going to use it, it's an inexpensive investment that's worthwhile.

Does a good job of making a game out of the exercises, but "Yourself!Fitness" is a much more robust and adaptive fitness package. [Dec 2005, p.110]
GameSpy
No matter how you slice it, Kinetic gives back what you jump, move, and punch into it. Though it's not a replacement for an actual trainer or a full-fledged gym, it does provide a little more entertaining spin on the whole exercise idea.

Whilst the idea behind Eyetoy Kinetic is brilliant, the execution is flawed, with the technology requiring detailed setup that many people may not be able to achieve.

Succeeds where other fitness-oriented programs fail because you are literally an active participant in the program instead of mimicking steps or following commands.
The pickiness of the lens attachment doesn't help, either, so you'll have to be seriously committed to your body to get the most from this program.

Jen T. gave it a10:
The treadmill was getting way too boring especially since my stupid earbuds kept falling out. it was really hard to get myself motivated to exercise daily. but this game is a lifesaver, videogames are more fun to turn on, and the easiest level can get anybody to start sweating. I thought this would be too easy when i first bought it, but it's challenging and fun. a last dorky comment: it's A LOT more fun to pretend you're on ninja training, military training or Stargate commanding training. LOL. that thought makes me keep at it longer and harder. later, maybe ill incorporate the treadmill once again.
Tracy E. gave it a10:
Kinetic is a great game. When I added a diet along with the twelve week program, I lost 10 pounds the first week. You can see the difference in your waist, muscles, and your energy. This game has truly made the difference, I am afraid of missing a workout for fear of anna criticisims (LOL). Anyways, If you are looking for a way to lose weight, tone, AND be sucked into a videogame at the same time this game is PERFECT.
Zack M. gave it a9:
This game makes it fun to excercise. It kicks my butt everytime I do it. It's worth the money because it keeps the fat off ya!
Phil C. gave it a10:
This is the best!! I have really seen results - it really works. Only for those interested in getting fit. =)
Pete gave it a10:
More exhausting than a session at the gym but without the shared stench of other people running aimlessly on the spot or pumping iron and sweating all over the place. Highly recommend this to anyone who needs the excercise and would rather do it in a fun way. Also to anyone who already thinks they are fit, give this a try as you will be surprised at the workout this gives you :)
LushChick gave it a10:
Love it! Definitely not for those just wanting to play games though, this one is all about the fitness. Great fun, challenging and exhausting!
Robin B. gave it a9:
A superb workout idea to get lazy gamers like myself into a proper keep fit routine. It keeps you going for the entire 12 weeks of the programme and I have to say it has made a difference to my beer gut and flexibilty. Don't be expecting your standard eyetoy mini-games (some of the other voters here clearly missed the point). This is longer lasting, and more importantly, much more fun than a workout video.
