Summary
(Also known as "Fahrenheit") New York, January 2009. For no apparent reason, ordinary people are killing total strangers in public places. Although there is no link between the murderers, they all seem to respect exactly the same ritual and pattern. Lucas Kane becomes another of these murderers when he kills a stranger in the men's room of a restaurant. Haunted by strange visions, he must keep one step ahead of the police to find out what is happening to him. Inspector Carla Valenti and her teammate agent Tyler Miles are in charge of the investigation. A series of disturbing clues projects them into a world they had never even dreamed of. Meanwhile, the early onset of winter paralyses Manhattan in an unbearable fury of cold and snow. Each day the temperature drops, as a coat of brilliant white snow is drawn over the dark streets of New York. One thing is sure : The final countdown has already begun. Indigo Prophecy creates a new breed of interactive entertainment, merging cinema and interactivity. A spectacular real-time 3D adventure with state-of-the-art camera direction and multi-path scenario. Play different protagonists in this epic quest and make the story progress depending on YOUR decisions. Control different characters in an awe-inspiring paranormal thriller, discern the dark secrets behind mysterious serial killings, understand why the city is brought to a standstill by snow and dropping temperatures, Play the hunter and the fugitive : explore, interact, fight and confront by all means dark forces during your journey. After Indigo Prophecy, the world just can't be the same place again. [Quantic Dream]

A completely engrossing game, designed for the patience of adult players, that will stand up to an almost infinite number of sessions. It’s a technically marvellous achievement by David Cage.

Indigo Prophecy is unique, artistic, immersive and beautiful. There’s no reason in the world why any self-respecting gamer shouldn’t have this game in their collection.

I cannot stress enough how incredibly great this game is. The storyline, the graphical style and movie-like scene-shifting, the incredible score, the voice-acting, it's all top-notch.

Fahrenheit features a fascinating, ever evolving storyline that really does change in real time depending on your actions.

Indigo Prophecy may not have the technical backings of a winner with its dated graphics and strange control scheme, but everything else screams classic.

In all, the game is fantastic – absolutely the best graphic adventure title of the year – and is a game others should aspire to in many ways.

I pray this is the direction adventure games are going. The production values and attention to detail recall classics like Blade Runner, and not since that game have I wanted to live in a world like this. Buy this game.

The incredible story had me guessing until the end, and once it was finished, I immediately began my quest for the different endings.

The game itself is quite simple and short, but the story folds out in a great way. One of the best games of 2005 so far. [Sept. 05]
Thunderbolt
David Cage and the team at Quantic Dream have accomplished what they set out to, producing a game that integrates narrative and gameplay so tightly that they almost seem inseparable... Undoubtedly one of the finest adventure games of this or any generation.

Fahrenheit heralds the renaissance in adventure games. The puzzles are logical and use common sense. The cinematic feeling, excellent voice acting, gripping action sequences and excellent audiovisual elements complement the tightly woven plot. The story and scene’s change according to the players choices and actions, which has often been talked about, but rarely implemented as well as in Fahrenheit. The game proves that adventure games are not dead, they just needed to find a way to adjust. [Sept 2005, p.52]

Well, now Fahrenheit is here in all its understated, slow-burning glory; and chances are most gamers will probably be blissfully unaware that the adventure genre has changed for the better in Quantic Dream's latest masterpiece.

Those who won’t look at a game unless it’s got big guns and lots of mindless goons to destroy will likely detest Fahrenheit and wonder what the fuss is all about; however those who’d like to glimpse how videogames can become an effective means to telling stories and interacting with them will find one of the surprising contenders for Game of the Year.

One of the most fresh, exiting and original games to come out for a long time; it's well presented, sounds great and offers something completely new. There are even a few sex scenes!

A truly extraordinary game, and easily one of this year’s landmark titles. Evocative, unique, original, atmospheric and gripping – most contemporary releases struggle to lay claim to just one of Fahrenheit’s strengths.

The game starts out kind of like "The Twilight Zone" meets "CSI," but then it turns into The "X-Files" with some "Matrix" undertones.

Stylish, cinematic reinvention of the point-and-click adventure. [Jan 2007, p.106]
Games Radar UK (Pre-2006)
Unique, and only the fact that it won't be every player's idea of fun (walking, listening, talking, mashing sticks...) holds it back. But to pass up on such a powerful experience based on preconceptions of 'boring adventure games' would be a very big mistake. [PSM2]

Solid graphics with a consistent feel, one of the best story presentations I have seen in a game since the original Half-Life, mixed all together with a variety of puzzles and changing environments combine to make a knockout of a title.

A good game and I feel that it is worth the money. It could use a lot of brushing up in certain areas, but considering its characters, dialogue, and sense of atmosphere, Quantic Dream has delivered a game ultimately worthy of the genre.

And yet there's still something here that kept us playing to the end. Can't quite put our finger on it…ah yes, now we remember what it was: This game has a story that's almost too damn good for a video game.

It's only awkward because it's stretching old and tired muscles in new and interesting ways, however, and for the people it resonates with, I predict this game will become quite the cult classic.

The rare game that, while not perfect, entertains, immerses, and inspires, all the while forcing you to rethink what a "game" is. We have nothing left to say but "Kudos." [Nov 2005, p.74]

A brilliant drama that's only slightly damaged by irritating controls and a messy ending. [Nov 2005, p.108]
Edge Magazine
It’s almost shocking how seamless, engrossing and accessible Fahrenheit is. It’s sad, then, that it shows weakness in the one area where it needed to be stronger than any other game: the script. [Oct 2005, p.84]
G4 TV
It does drag on in a few spots, and its sci-fi bent may betray the original premise, but it brings gamers a deep, compelling story told in a clever way -- both in terms of narrative and gameplay execution.

While Indigo Prophecy is an intense gaming experience, it's easier to compare the title to a film affair. If you can get past the minimalist game interface Prophecy can be an awesome entertaining play.

If it was a book you'd call it "a real page-turner"; it can be nigh-impossible at points to put down. When all is said and done, as the credits roll across the screen, you'll remember the poignant moments as part of the story, not the actions you took that caused them to be played out.

Forget buying three DVDs of crappy movies you're only going to watch once and buy Fahrenheit instead. It's longer, boasts more action, costs the same and offers far more crash for your cash than many a movie. [PSW]

Sometimes the game throws a bit too many gameplay ideas at the player through its constant switching between playing as Lucas and the cops, as well as the over emphasis on action sequences, but they aren’t so awful as to ruin the game.

Whatever the future may hold though, Fahrenheit is itself a compelling, truly adult adventure of rare literary and filmic qualities, and that’s more than enough to satisfy for now.

It's about halfway through Fahrenheit that the wheels start to wobble. The game begins to veer away from its complex murder-mystery beginnings into the realm of pure fantasy, with a final chapter that can be hard to stomach.

Despite its cinematic aspirations and genuinely unique approach, Indigo Prophecy is little more than a short adventure that relies too heavily on the same, bad mini-game when it should be mixing up the contextually-controlled goodness like a dyslexic DJ.

OK, I played this Game about 2 years ago & I must say aside from Shadow of the Colossus this was the most unforgettable experience in video game history. Yeah, I'm saying this 2 years later! It's never left my memory.

the best game ever!buy it now, brilliant game, brilliant characters and breathtaking story!and to those people who putted rating for this game less then 5,you must be little kids which only play first person shooters and want some action, this game is about the story, how you put the story together.get it now as this is the most amazing game ever!
Paul O. gave it a7:
A good game that would have been great were it not for the mostly inane puzzles (Though there are certainly a couple of good ones) and rather poor gameplay. It really would have been better off as a movie. The "Simon Says" way you control the action does make sure you're paying attention, but it would feel so much better if I were controlling the character, rather than just pusing buttons to see a pre-determined outcome. Besides the control quirks, the game's storyline, visuals, and characters are really quite good, though the story takes a nosedive in the last quarter of the game and the ending left me dissapointed.
Foensson gave it a10:
One of the best games i have ever played... I got sucked in and didn't come out until the "the end" sign was on the screen.. Amazing.. Great voice acting, even bettet characters...
Julie N. gave it a9:
Intense sequences. Plays like a movie where you control the story. Simple investigative gameplay followed by scary mental scenes and fast decisions you have to make to control the game. The fight sequences are intense, but you spend time concentrating on the moves and don't get to enjoy the visuals. Still, excellent game.
Jake P. gave it a10:
this game took me to places any other game couldn't. it is by far the most realistic and breathtaking game i have ever played. kudos to atari...you came a long way from pac man
Joshua gave it a4:
A potentially excellent game ruined by Simon Says reflex controls, pointless mini-games, and shoddy camera work. At one point the camera kept sliding after I took my thumb off the analog. I wanted to keep playing the game and following the story but the wretched controls (worse than Silent Hill) kept angering me. At one point I yelled, "Didn't anyone playtest this?" A serious disappointment. Hopefully Quantic Dream will solve these problems before they release another game in this genre.
