Summary
FIFA 07 delivers complete authenticity with licenses for all the world's top leagues, including MLS and Mexican 1st Division in North America, and 26 others from over 20 nations. This year, you have the power to shape your club's destiny in the EA Sports Interactive Leagues, a new online mode that enables you to pit your club against supporters of your real-world opponents. The online interactive leagues feature the F.A. Premier League, Bundesliga, French League and the Mexican 1st Division. Experience the future of online gaming as you play your games according to the real-world schedule. When they play, you play. Track your team's progress as the aggregate results determine your club's position in the league table. This year, new intelligent A.I. ensures that your 11 men on the pitch make realistic decisions, finding space and passing like professionals. A complete overhaul of the game engine now means that you have to employ real world tactics, make split-second decisions and think like a player in order to win matches. Watch as your players jostle and collide realistically while trying to win balls. Experience the realism of the world's superstars, who come to life with signature moves and authentic playing styles and a more sophisticated shooting mechanic that gives you greater control to produce finesse shots. Plus you now have the ability to apply topspin or backspin to the ball for more creative set-pieces. [Electronic Arts]

Official Playstation 2 Magazine UK
This is the key reason why FIFA 07 will keep you playing, because it's the first in the series that gets inside your head and forces you to give a toss... FIFA has finally managed to meld both style and substance. [Oct 2006, p.84]
GamePro
FIFA 07's allure is hard to deny, making this game a sure-fire rental for seasoned vets and a must have for new soccer fans.

It's 100mph, gutsy and full of commitment. In fact, if FIFA 07 was a real player, it'd probably be Stevie Gerrard. Yes, it really is that good. [Nov 2006, p.80]
PGNx Media
Many of the new features are well-received and while the others will take some getting used to, this is undoubtedly a move forward for the franchise.

still not quite as refined or smooth as Pro Evo, FIFA 07 is certainly kicking at the heels of its great competitor.

An excellent game. Is it completely new? No. Is it revolutionary in some way? No. But EA has taken the core FIFA game and improved it to create the best FIFA footballer to date.

What a difference a year makes. FIFA 07 has closed the gap on "PES5" more than we could possibly have imagined. Compared to previous FIFA instalments this plays a more rounded, authentic game of football without cranking up the realism so much that it’s no longer fun.

A lesson to chronic underdogs everywhere, FIFA 07 sets its own terms for victory and then blows the doors off them. [Nov. 2006, p.112]
Worth Playing
The game of soccer has never been so complete, with so many teams, leagues, cups, options, modes, and everything else that you can possibly imagine.

FIFA 07 plays a fast-paced and realistic game of soccer and boasts plenty of gameplay options for solo and social players alike.

In terms of gameplay, it's still not "Pro Evolution Soccer," but it's just shy of excellent. [Nov 2006, p.78]

The tweaks to the existing feature set and gameplay have certainly raised its game and will make you feel like you are close to experiencing a real football match.

Yes, it’s a little tougher to learn the nuances than in years past, but the final verdict is in - and it’s a golden goal.

A genuine highlight in the FIFA series, FIFA 07 is perhaps the most refined and complete offering likely to appear on this generation of consoles.

FIFA 07 has got the looks, gameplay, and features of a masterpiece – and it would be such if the majority of its content hadn’t already been introduced.

FIFA 07 most definitely beats PES in a few areas, most notably in presentation and the brilliant first-touch control, but it's still not PES.

Playing cup matches in the middle of the season against Hartlepool and Macclesfield is refreshing, and the new passing system is a welcomed improvement. However, the controls are too complicated, AI knows how to cheat, the ball behaves strangely and tactically FIFA 07 is much too simple. [Sept 2006]

Excellent player movement and passing make for a beautiful game, but dodgy defenders and predictable goals make it feel slightly lightweight. [Issue#146, p.78]
Game Informer
Gameplay, meanwhile, makes some minor adjustments this year--giving a few more control options including the ability to play with a scheme that is identical to Konami's "Winning Eleven" button layout. [Oct. 2006, p.94]
1UP
This is clearly the best-playing FIFA game ever made, but that merely puts it above some of the most average-playing soccer games ever made. Even with the improvements, the game remains far too simple tactically.

Convincing physics have been brought into play to improve the feel of passing, crossing and shooting - a feature that brings FIFA more in line with the current simulation champ, "Pro Evolution Soccer."

If only that trademark familiarity didn't breed contempt at the annual updates - still less of a leap and more of a step. The embarrassing stumbles that once blighted EA Sports' flagship are a distant memory.

Saying that the latest FIFA is "beautiful but not as deep as it could be" is becoming a cliché in itself. But it's not without some truth, and although this is engaging for a while (and still the second best football game on the market), it's not quite a keeper.

Very nice indeed. [Holiday 2006, p.85]

Excellent game! Not like other EA Sports games when the opposing team comes back in the last two minutes to win!

Peter F. gave it a9:
I used to be a big Pro evolution fan until I played FIFA 07. Sure when you play it first its really bad but you need a couple of days to get use to it then its a really good game. I love how you can do a different varieties of tricks to dodge a defender. I also love how u can score from pretty far away unlike Pro Evo where you can only score just out side the box. FIFA 07 is a great game you just have to give it some time.
Cas S. gave it a6:
Nice improvements from previous years, but in trying to become too advanced, FIFA is missing the simplicity that makes PES so appealing. The trick stick is frustrating, and defenders uncanny ability to simply 'get in the way' of passes is a severe hinderance to fluid gameply. Nice effort, but not a winner yet.
Tom E. gave it a10:
At last EA get the gameplay right - now the football game to have.
Sander D. gave it an8:
The menus look great, the audio is wonderful, the animation is fantastic and I remember why I have always been buying FIFA. The gameplay is getting better and better but still it hasn't convinced me yet. It's is a great game, but it doesn't feel like real football just yet. They are closing the gap, but they are still a few years behind.
Thaps K. gave it a1:
Buy it if you are a ManUTD fan.
