Summary

LEGO Star Wars II takes the fun and customization ability of the LEGO play pattern and combines it with the epic story, characters and action from the revolutionary Star Wars: Episodes IV, V and VI. With a unique tongue-in-cheek take on the Original Trilogy, LEGO Star Wars II lets you build and battle your way through your favorite film moments. From Darth Vader's pursuit of Princess Leia aboard her Blockade Runner to Luke's final confrontation with Emperor Palpatine. For the first time ever, characters can get in and out of vehicles, as well as ride creatures. Because it's LEGO style, you can also mix and match the body parts of more than 50 playable characters to create one of millions of possible LEGO Star Wars heroes. And on PS2, Xbox and Windows platforms, a game save from the first LEGO Star Wars can unlock another 50-plus additional characters for Free Play mode -- that's more than 100 total characters. Other exciting additions include free-roaming vehicle levels, the ability to switch ships at will in Free Play mode, cool new character-specific attacks and maneuvers, playable mini-kit vehicles, an adaptive difficulty option and more. The Co-Op mode alone makes this an essential purchase and now with the ability to take vehicles out for a spin and create new characters, Lego Star Wars II is every bit as great as we would have hoped.

It trumps the already brilliant original by being based on the classic trilogy of films and, in terms of gameplay, is the multiplayer co-op game of the decade so far.

It certainly isn't gaming's greatest challenge, but it's absolutely fun. If you've seen the original trilogy, don't resist! Join the LEGOside.

I don’t claim to be a Star Wars buff – far, far from it, in fact – but Lego Star Wars II: The Original Trilogy makes me want to check out the storyline a little more, provides a heck of a lot of entertainment for the asking price and a few bugs aside, has been put together incredibly well indeed. Very, very good.

Gameplay is entertaining and amusing (Chewie is hilarious), the music comes straight from the movies, and the visuals deliver the coolest and most unique eye candy seen since the first LEGO Star Wars game.

And while the gameplay and puzzles are streamlined, the unlockable content massive, and the flying modes excellent, the best part about the game is its snarky humor and feel-good satire.

It’s a sequel to one of the most entertaining Star Wars games ever made, and it honors one of the best sci-fi trilogies of all time. Unfortunately, some of the design limitations might keep you from playing each level multiple times to find all the goodies and online achievements.

The game is simply unadulterated fun, and often what keeps you playing is the incentive of seeing how they'll interpret the next part of the film.

With Lego Star Wars II, not only does the game itselff provide a general improvement over the previous release, but it also reinforces just how much better the original(which, technically, is the sequel)Star Wars trilogy is. [Oct. 2006, p.86]

Its enthusiasm is infectious and irresistible. Here's to hoping LucasArts keeps the spirit alive with, dare we hope, a "Lego Indiana Jones."

Games Radar (in-house)

With solidly rebuilt controls only a little marred by a still-fussy camera, LEGO Star Wars II is even better than last years prequel trilogy-based offering. And, as the first LEGO Star Wars was an amazingly entertaining homage to Lucas's genius, this sequel stands atop the original's shoulders as the pinnacle of LEGO Star Wars fun.

The Original Trilogy's main strength is it's presentation and humour - the novelty of the Lego enviroments has not worn off from the first Lego Star Wars game and the music is excellent. The difficulty level is too easy, but a generous amount of unlockables offers decent replay value.

Chloe P. gave it a10:
This game is perfect. We all love it. I can play with my Dad or my baby sister Lily. Star Wars rulez. I like R2 D2 and Darth Vader. It is really awesome to make Boba Fet fly so high. I feel that enough can not be said in favour of the amazing game.

Dread Pirate Robert gave it a9:
I agree with Unholy M. -- it's not the hardest or most challenging game in the world, but it makes me grin while I'm playing. It's just fun -- fun that deserves serious replay time. And the fact that I can play co-op mode with a 6-year old and still have fun makes it even better.

Unholy M. gave it a9:
Okay ... I'm 35 years old, have been playing video games for more than 25 years, and this has to be one of the funnest games I've ever played. Maybe not the best graphics ever, the most challenging, or even the most "wow" factor. But from the humor throughout, the accuracy to the story, and all the unlockables, this game is just plain fun. And that's what games are supposed to be about.

Tracy H. gave it a10:
It is the radest thing I've ever played!

Mike G. gave it a10:
Very fun game, no level feels redundant, I love the cut scenes, 7 hours long, but hidden items really draw out replay values. Best rental ever, wont be dissapointed

[Anonymous] gave it a9:
This game is not deserving of a 10. In some parts, way way too hard. But all of the little new things that weren't in the first one make this 2 points better.

Oli gave it a9:
Magnificent! Desparately playable, full of extras and wonderful humour (Darth Vader, and Ben Kenobi stopping mid duel to wave at Luke, the hats being too small for Chewbacca). Have finished the main stories and not even 50% through. Probably too easy overall, but still makes you think now and again. And LEGO Batman... I hope that has some truth behind it!
