Naruto is an unapologetic button masher, but its single-minded combat is a perfect compliment to the game’s always comical, sometimes hilarious wit.

The fighting game is fairly solid with several elements that, while not completely unique to the fighting genre, mix together for a unique experience. It takes the source material and does it justice.

Well well well, a licensed game that's actually worth the plastic it's burned onto. Hell, it's actually a decent fighting game. Shallow, perhaps, but still a great party game and solid enough that you want to explore the different modes.

Ultimate Ninja packs more than enough style and quirky fight mechanics to keep things interesting. Having said that, it lacks some of the depth that serious fans of the genre may want in a fighter.

The meagre character list is among the few real drawbacks in what is a surprisingly accomplished fighting game, sporting just fourteen selectable fighters (two of which are stronger, slightly broken versions of existing ones).

Fans of a license like this deserve better, though. Whether or not you like the Naruto cartoons, you have to admit that they're pretty great fighting-game fodder -- bright, violent, over-the-top action. We'll have to wait and see if Bandai gets it right the next time.

Randy M. gave it an8:
Naruto: Ultimate Ninja is definetely a huge surprise. This game goes beyond the fanbase to appeal to fans of the fighting genre in general. While it may not be for everyone, it's still a fun and lasting experience.

Kurtis H. gave it an8:
This game mixes in humor and an intresting battle system similar to Super Smash Bros. Although, the game lacks depth in a few key areas, the overall experience is worth the $40 for everyday fighting fans, and it is a must buy for any Naruto fan.

Vahnd D. gave it a6:
I better watch the anime movie than to play this game. But I aleady bought it since I'm a big fan of Naruto. The ninjutsu didn't meet my expectation. Too bad. The worst is the original voice is dub to English!

Stephen K. gave it a9:
Okay, this game is not made for every fighting game fan (if you dislike 2d fighters, or super smash brothers type gameplay). Naruto is, however, the best anime licensed game I have ever played (and I have played many, many licensed games being a dbz fan). Surprisingly, there is a good amount of depth in this game if you TAKE the TIME to learn the counter system and when to use the assorted combos. If you are not a fighting game fan, let this stay on the shelf. If, however, you do enjoy a good fighter, or happen to be a Naruto fan, at least rent this game.

Richard M. gave it a3:
Not worth buying or even renting; play it at Wal-mart or stop by a friend's house to get a taste of it. Fun for about 10, maybe 20 minutes. A complete mash fest that lacks any worthwhile single player mode. Combos are minimal and each character has only one special, which gets boring to watch after the second time. It fails as a single-player and two-player fighting game. Look elsewhere if you expect to be entertained longer then the duration of a Naruto episode, and don't lie to yourself and others by saying the game is anything more than a "pathetic" video game.
