Summary
Imagine jump shots so real players actually adjust their movement in mid-air based on distance from the hoop and defensive pressure; a passing touch that gives you the control to skirt a defender or start a fast break; and dribble moves that let you jab left, rock right, crossover, spin and much more. It's all happening in NBA 2K3. No other game delivers the physical element of basketball like this. Accurate impact from collisions, especially hard fouls and authoritative dunks; shot blocking with emphasis on precise hand-to-ball contact; and the ability to lunge for the loose ball, even if it means ending up on some celebrity's lap. With commentators that analyze strategy, cutscenes portraying lifelike player interaction, uniforms that move like real fabric, and a brand new ESPN broadcast system that wraps it all together, NBA 2K3 provides the complete NBA experience. Official U.S. Playstation Magazine
When it comes to games for sports lovers, this one leads the list. It's my early favorite [yes, over "Madden" and "NCAA 2003"] for sports game of the year. [Dec 2002, p.170]
GameNow
It's 2K3 or bust if you're a serious hoop head. [Dec 2002, p.70]
Cinescape
Without a doubt the most realistic basketball game ever to hit the market. Its got everything a fan could want: franchise mode, online mode, create a player, and the best gameplay around.

Unmatched in its field thanks to major improvements in every category combined with a deeply rewarding simulation experience.

A great basketball engine with improved physics and new moves, finely detailed and rich graphics, and modes both diverse and immersive all combine to make NBA 2K3 the best true representation of basketball out there.

One fantastic looking game, and it plays like a dream. The controls are logical and simple, but at the same time can be very complex.

Accuracy reigns over adrenaline, and NBA 2K is the king of video hoops yet again. [Nov 2002, p.118]
Sports Gaming Network
The key is the gameplay. While there are some nagging issues, the game is balanced overall and will appeal to fans of the game.

Despite its random flaws, the game's gorgeous graphics, solid gameplay and top-notch Franchise mode make it an easy All-Star.

Online play, a much-improved franchise mode, and the integration of the ESPN license dot the i's in an already great series. [Dec 2002, p.204]
PSX Nation
From its robust Franchise mode to its peerless graphics engine, and from the intimidating control options (Im still finding new stuff to do as I write this!) to its mostly lag-free online playability, NBA 2K3 redefines and expands the genre to new heights.

When played head to head [with "Live 2003"], 2K3 feels a little slow, a tad unexciting and a touch old school, but it still looks and plays the closest to real NBA basketball. For hardcore hoops fans, that's what really matters. [Dec 2002, p.59]
IGN
This is by far one of the best sports simulations out there. However, if you are looking for an experience closer to old-school b-ball games like NBA Jams, then you don't want to come here.

NBA 2K3's great gameplay, in-depth franchise mode, and functional (albeit shoddy) online play make it a must-have for fans of the sport.

A solid looking, solid playing basketball game that sits firmly in the realism camp.

Although the player models look better than they do in EA's game, the movements aren't as fluid. Some of the animations (especially passing) are a little awkward. [Nov 2002, p.88]
Gamestyle
If you love hoops, then this is a great simulation that will last until the next iteration, but Gamestyle feels that the real fun is to be had out on the blacktop and not in the comfort of your La-Z-Boy.

Pretty good game. But some things I don't like about it are the players faces, some of them you worked on to much like Iverson face looks just like him, but others it looks like you didn't put much time on.
Mukanzakini G. gave it a 10:

J dezonia gave it a 9:
i like this game alot u have created players and created teams but one thing i think u should have u should be able to be 7'10 i don't like only being able to be 7'6 it sucks. and make some more games on it like 3 point contest and dunking contest u need thoughs things to make it interesting for your not always play just the regular game or street.
TRUE GAMER gave it a 10:
Great game, and besides you don't have to keep calling plays everytime down the court (BEN H.). The only thing you have to do is go to settings and put everything on manual including the substitions. PRO VIDEO GAME PLAYER... MY ASS.
