Summary
With an "SSX"-like trick system and the rejuvenation of the blocked shot, it seems that EA's reinvention of "NBA Jam"-style hoops should do for basketball what the Tony Hawk series did for skateboarding.

Thrilling, addictive gameplay loaded with tough battles and jaw-dropping moves thatll lure even the most jaded b-ballers back to the court.

NBA Street has taken the rock and seriously posterized NBA Jam and EA's own NBA Live 2001 on PS2. NBA Street has beaten down all other basketball games on the market and told their mothers to their faces.

Definitely not for fans of simulation Basketball games, but then again, this game is so much fan, it may be.

One of the top five games for the PlayStation 2, look no further. NBA Street is really that good.

Through its brilliant use of an SSX-styled trick system and the way that the developers have managed to make blocked shots as important and every bit as exciting as slam dunks, NBA Street has taken the arcade basketball genre to all-new heights.

Anyone looking for a fast-action basketball game that isn't afraid to tinker with Midway's stock formula will definitely find a lot to like in NBA Street.

The inclusion of Michael Jordan, while it doesn't necessarily add anything to the gameplay, certainly improves the game in the eyes of most basketball fans.
Hot Games
A monster facial to the arcade hoops competition. Bow down suckas - theres a new champ on the court. Once NUFX works out the kinks, itll be unstoppable.

It's fast, furious and, whether you like basketball or not, fantastic fun.

It's one of the best, if not the best, basketball titles I have played on any system. That alone makes this one of the best purchases for your PS2 this year.

A game that on every level, takes the previous conventions of an arcade basketball game and obliterates them, throwing innovation into places that didnt seem like they needed it.

Though an exceedingly fun and rewarding game, NBA Street isn't very original or particularly noteworthy.

Not only do you have to be able to play street ball, but you also have to be able to break some ankles and score with style, not just a wussy 15-foot jump shot, which likely would get rejected/goaltended in the game.

Street possesses electrifying gameplay with kick-you-in the teeth animations and visuals. [Sept 2001, p.141]
Happy Puppy
While there's still plenty of room for improvement (the inexcusable lack of a four-player mode), this game does so much innovative stuff, and does it right, that it's hard not to classify it as a must-have title.

While the depth of sims like the "NBA Live" series is missing, NBA Street manages to capture the excitement and energy of the street ball most of us are far more familiar with.

We suggest using the seven foot Wolfman, hes great at blocking shots.

Okay, so it owes a fair amount to Midway's classic "NBA Jam" series, but it also takes the concept to a whole new dimension, building new depth into the quick-fire action.

While its disappointing that only two people can play simultaneously, NBA Street is nonetheless a great choice for arcade-style sports fans.

Control is very easy and intuitive. For the coolest dunk youll have to press no less than five buttons at one time plus the d-pad, but it is definitely worth it.

It is fun if you have friends over, but the single-player game is a chore.

A classic for years to come that shows consistent simplicity overpowers sinking a gamebreaker two jumpshot' from halfcourt with Shaq in volume 2 or all the flips and somersaults in part 3, the perfect soundtrack and beautiful gameplay to go along with intensity brings a great time to whoever wants next to 21 by 2 points. Enjoyment for all ages, EA sports BIG started on the street.

The best b-ball game ever.

Hands down the best b-ball game so far, on any system...nuff said.

EA has a pretty clean track record. First SSX came out, then Street, and thirdly SSX Tricky. I can"t wait for Sled Storm, their next release. NBA Street is one of my favorite games. I like it better than metal gear solid, final fantasy 10, devil may cry, and nhl 2002 (among quite a few others in my very nice collection). This site actually influenced many of my purchases, and has really helped to weed out the duds before purchasing. I"ve been reading some of the comments here and how way off the complaining ones can be. There is a tonne of replay value in NBA Street. Not only does it take literally hundreds of games to beat it in one player (if you win every game), but the 2 player game simply is a blast. If ya want an exagerated sports game for the PS2, this is the ultimate choice. I also regretably picked up NHL Hitz 2002. The graphics and depth of that game are seriously lacking. I really tried to like it too, since I"m a canadian hockey fanatic. Damn, I should have taken into consideration it"s placing on the rankings. Opp, a little off topic here. What I wanted to say is that NBA Street rules.
