When the players walk back to the huddle in between plays they walk like robots or like they forgot to go to the bathroom before they went out on the field.

It's both fun and completely ridiculous at times. It's fun because you can move the ball and score big, but as time goes on, even on the Hall of Fame level with the IQ and CPU sliders maxed out it is still too easy to move the ball.

GameDay 2002 finally got the ball, but it's late in the fourth and the other teams (Madden and NFL 2K2) are already celebrating.

In a turnaround seldom seen in the videogame industry, this series manage to go from god-awful to mediocre.

[It] isn't without its flaws, and ultimately, it falls short of more robust competing products, but it is also a much-improved game with solid graphics and presentation.

This game just does not cut it for the PS2, hopefully this year's edition will be a building block for the developers to come up with a solid football game.

The basis of what is to be an awesome football game has been laid out...It needs better AI, better tackling animations and more via presentation to realistically challenge Madden.

The series is definitely on the right track. Nevertheless, it has a long way to go before it can even begin to compete with the likes of EA Sports' Madden and Visual Concepts' 2Kx series.

Progress is so slow in coming with this franchise it makes the Lions march to mediocrity look like a worst-to-first finish. [Feb 2002, p.84]
XenGamers
The balance, polish, and attention to detail found in quality football titles such as "NFL 2K2" and "Madden 2002" is wholly missing from GameDay 2002.

Its packed full of glitches, bugs, and design flaws that brought us to new depths of aggravation. [Feb 2002, p.38]
All Game Guide
The title is barely playable in its current form, as each new game reveals a new bug or glitch in the rules, gameplay, or presentation.

Oh, GameDay, youre the worst game the PS2 has to offer. [Feb 2002, p.112]
Electronic Gaming Monthly
The players look horrible in comparison to Madden and NFL 2K2, and they move more sluggishly than Oprah after brunch. [Feb 2002, p.154]
Game Revolution
Rumor has it that GameDay 2002 is superior to GameDay 2001, but that's sort of like saying a bop on the head is better than a punch in the nose. I wouldn't pay for either of them.

This game is so ugly that it looks like its been beaten like a red-headed stepchild that managed to hit every branch on the ugly tree.

A pretty bad nfl game but MUCH could be improved on. Starting with the whole game itself.

Doesn't stand a chance to competition.
