Summary
(Known as "Winning Eleven 7" in Japan; Available in UK/EU Only) Every aspect of the game has been massively reworked, with new player models, on and off-the-ball moves and key additions to the Master League incorporated into the new game. The game's menu screens have been simplified to cater tothe wealth of new modes --in addition to cup tournaments, friendly matches and a new, four-division Master League, there's now a Shop element to the game. This adds additional depth to the series, as players accumulate points via the training and exhibition modes. These in turn can be traded for new stadiums, crowd effects, teams, players, strategies and hair styles, rewarding the player for prolonged play. Over 80 per cent of the in-game animations have been renewed, and a new graphics engine allows the greatest level of detail seen in the series--meaning players that not only look identical to their real-life counterparts, but move like them, too. Similarly, the players have improved AI and ball physics that allows them to pull off moves specific to particular situations. Other features include a multi-player mode accommodating up to eight players, referees playing the advantage in foul situations, the option to control one player as opposed to switching between them, and new modes to select referees and switch fatigue on and off. Above all, the replayability factor is top notch. I daresay that this game contains as much replay value as the 3D "GTA games"; its that good. Its also a relief to know that the developers took the time to emphasize more on the fun factor of gameplay, unlike the FIFA games which focuses on mere aesthetics and player likenesses down the years.

Whether or not you buy PES3 comes down to just one question: do you like football? If the answer is 'yes', then you need this. You need it more than you need oxygen...No other videogame has ever captured the framework of the sport so completely.

Pro Evolution Soccer 3 comes out winner on all levels in my eyes retaining its spot as the best football game ever made.

The Master League is the finest competition in any videogame, ever, and PES3 is the finest videogame interpretation of football to grace the planet... Refinements to the graphics and gameplay make this absolutely perfect. [PSM2]

Every pass, tackle, goal and moment of breathtaking skill... it all just feels like a football game should feel. The title is beautifully presented and feels like an absolute dream to play.

Where Pro Evo still succeeds over its rivals is in its ability to replicate the beautiful game without smothering gameplay in complexities.

The subtlety and craft of the game remains peerless...The most frustrating aspect of the game is the interminable loadings screens. Starting and ending a game is now punctuated by a lengthy wait and adds real frustration.

Every element of the series has been tweaked, reworked or enhanced resulting in the closest recreation of the real sport that we could possibly have hoped for.

It is the pinnacle of a great series, and were it not for the Japanese text, which renders a third of the game impenetrable, this would score well into the high nineties. [Import ("Winning Eleven 7")]

Really is the game for football fans simply because, it will reward those players with a good footballing brain rather than just good dexterity. No higher praise than this can be given to the game. [Import ("Winning Eleven 7")]

Those frantic goalmouth scrambles other games just can't seem to recreate become even more likelike as your players intelligently stretch for the loose ball, and the overall level of realism in the gameplay dynamics really does leave every other footbal sim we've encountered feeling incredibly videogame-like in comparison. [Dec 2003, p.108]

But the intense feeling of elation that we got from playing this at ECTS has yet to be rediscovered. There is still time - as Pro Evolution 3 is a brilliant football game, and it gets better the more it's played.

More of the same for those who don't care, but a whole new world of compulsion for those who do. [Import ("Winning Eleven 7")]

Gamer gave it a6:
Firstly this game does not meet the requirements of a real football fan, simply because it is'nt played out like a real match. Have you watched football recently- no match is as end to end and played at such a quick tempo. The skill buttons are pointless and again not realistic. Dont get me wrong there are problems with FIFA as well, but they will involve subtle changes. PES needs to get rid of the horrible Japanese feel, it needs more realistioc gameplay. People talk about FIFA being easy, well this game is so basic its almost painful, and at least FIFA offers higher levels to move up into that dont effect the way that the gamer plays. You cant shoot along the ground from outside the box, if that was realistic of the game then Chelsea would the majority of their goals this season. This game is alright, nothing special- for wannabe football fans.
Andy S. gave it a10:

John M. gave it a10:
It is just great. much better than fifa anyway!
Glenn B gave it a10:
If you like 'soccer' and haven't played it yet then you have my sympathy for missing out on 2 years of PES3. Just think, you could have been as good as me by now!
Matt H. gave it a 10:
EXcellent.
prepaqs2 gave it a 10:
PES2 was brilliant but I stopped playing it. Why? Because PES3 is better and deserves a score higher than 10.
Callum B. gave it a 10:
The reputation says it all! Pro Evo Soccer forever!
