Aided by power-ups, the Rampage: Total Destruction monsters are capable of acquiring a number of upgrades throughout the course of a single campaign. Besides the occasional inability to actually grab things as a monster, I can't really find anything detrimental in Rampage: Total Destruction. The true party game, it's that simple dose of pure fun that we really shouldn't move too far away from too often.

Midway didn't over-think Rampage TD, rather, they made it look amazing while retaining and improving on the game's simplistic yet addictive gameplay. [May 2006, p.54]

No matter what speed they’re at or what font is used, the thrill of destroying cities remains intact, and that’s something this series does better than any other.

If you haven’t picked up one of the Godzilla games, or War of the Monsters then pick those titles up first. They can be found for the same price if not less, and have much of the basics that this title does.

The problem is that the core game tries to be something it was never meant to be and that really drags the overall fun factor well below where it should be.

Ultimately, it's a short lived blast at best, overshadowed by the much better "War of the Monsters". [Jun 2006, p.84]

I seriously question the longevity of this title, even with multiplayer and a ton of unlockable stuff. I think this is a weekend rental for the most part.

The series' simplified gameplay takes a step backwards with Total Destruction, and the overall experience is decidedly mediocre. But sometimes, after a hard day of work, you just want to knock over a skyscraper.

Once the novelty of the new graphics wears off, we're stuck with a 20-year old arcade game that I'm not so sure I would label a classic in the first place.

If the control wasn't so sloppy and loose, Total Destruction could easily have been a much better game. As it stands, this is just like every previous entry.

Tried-and-true fans of the original will be ecstatic with Total Destruction, but the younger hardcore gamers will probably be wishing they were playing their Greatest Hits version of "Devil May Cry 3" or "God of War" for the umpteenth time.

It's fun for a while, but the lame objectives and lack of power-ups soon make this a chore. It's about time this franchise was buried under some rubble. [May 2006, p.68]

The formula was never that good to begin with, and shiny new graphics, tons of new monsters, and a host of unlockable moves simply cannot hide the fact that Rampage, no matter the generation, is a bore.

It's just not fun yet. Sure, playing against people is a mild diversion, and it has a small amount of nostalgic appeal, but if they want to come up with something that's sold entirely on the basis of the fun of destruction, destruction has to be more fun than this.

You would think that they could have done a better job than this. A free roaming 3D affair – think GTA but with a giant – wouldn’t have taken a whole lot more effort, and could actually have been an amusing little distraction. Instead, the developers have opted for half-assed 3D, and it doesn’t do the game any good at all.

The core gameplay in all its monotonous glory is, unfortunately, entirely preserved, and while no one can deny the appeal of trashing pricey downtown real estate while noshing picture-snapping tourists and tossing trains, if you play one level you've played them all.

[Anonymous] gave it an8:
This game is for those who want to get into all the parts in Grand Theft Auto and Simpsons Hit And Run where you can just run off destroying buildings, and it's for those who are just so mad and frustrated and want to tear things up...this game is decent and the graphics are nice. There are tons of more characters and not just 3. But I must admit, this game would not be worth $40 so they put a good price on it. And the fun gets more fun if you use the cheats which you can figure out on www.gamefaqs.com. The game will have you playing for a long time or a short time. It all depends on how you play it.

Red XIII gave it a3:
Fun for about the first 30 minutes but gets extremely repetitive after that, the original rampages are cool, but also kind of dull. Graphics good, but just not enough complexity or different game play modes. Had potential but felll way short of the mark. Rent do not buy!

Eli gave it a3:
There really isn't much to say about Rampage for PS2. The old arcade game was fun but the seriously outdated gameplay simply fails to hold this game togethor. Sure the updated graphics are nice but are actually crap compared to any other game. The game gets begins to get repetative after a few levels. Playing with friend can be fun for a little while but boredom will set in more quickly than you can imagine. This game is cheap remake that does nothing to improve on the original rampage and is just doesn's have anything redeemable about except for the low price tag. If you want a decent monster game I would suggest War of the Monsters.

Sammy gave it an8:
The crazy thing about this game is that even though you are doing the same exact thing over and over, its always fun. Rampage Total Destruction makes the serious come alive like never before with its detailed graphics and hilarious character animations. Add in a friend and you've got a good couple hours of entertainment. Every time a friend comes over you'll want to whip this game out again. Is it life changing? No. Is it worth 20 bucks? You bet.

Pablo R. gave it a9:
Awesome! really every time a new rampage comes out it makes the Series look even Better. Who cares what the critics say, they dont know what gamers want their like 40 yr. olds.

John M. gave it a10:
if you like war of the monsters and godzilla save the earth. plus multi player mode. rampage is a great edition for that type of gameplay.
