Rock Band is really three games in one, and what's amazing is that not one of them feels anything less than excellent, despite treading on now familiar ground. Combined, they are a recipe for the most fun you can have in your living room.

Touring in single-player mode is disappointingly pared down, as though the designers couldn’t imagine anyone would play the game alone. This was disappointing, as my friends can’t come over every day to play.

Rock Band is more than a simple video game, it's a highly interactive social experience. There's enough depth and fun here to keep you and your friends entertained for months. A must-have for the festive season!

Sadly, the PS2 version of Rock Band drops that multiplayer hook but manages to retain the multiplayer charm.

If you can afford the high price, Rock Band is one of the best musical gaming experience at this moment. Sadly, the PS2 version of Rock Band robs it of a good chunk of its great value.

The stripped down nature of the PS2 version of Rock Band robs it of a good chunk of its value, but the gameplay still rocks.

On its own merits (which we're reviewing it on), Rock Band on PS2 is a fundamentally excellent rhythm game that simply lacks the variety and presentational polish of Harmonix's previous work. Compared to its PS3 and 360 versions, it comes up surprisingly short.

Rock Band for the PlayStation 2 is like seeing a cover band over the original performers -- you'll have a good time but you'll notice something is missing.
