The game comes complete with more detail about how to achieve that crucial 'full back enters line' move that was so lacking in the original. The control functions for the rucks and mauls are also infinitely more simple.

A truckload of fun to play and a must-buy for hardcore rugby union fans (who aren't exactly spoiled for choice in this genre). Casual fans of the sport may want to rent first, and see if they like the control scheme.

Working its magic touch for the sport, the presentation and addictive gameplay impress right from the initial pre-match nerves to the relief of the final whistle.

Nothing can disguise the simple fact that Rugby is a quality game at heart, like the real thing, but it can be difficult work to fathom and master.

With its fluid gameplay and easy-to-learn controls, Rugby could convert some Yanks to the intriguing world of rucks, scrums, and grubber kicks.

I had a fair amount of fun with it and I certainly learned a lot about the game itself. While I wouldnt necessarily recommend it to everyone, those of you who have even a passing interest, owe it to yourself to give it a play.

The game play is very solid. The game is very fluid as you make a string of passes to the left and right to get over the try line for a "try". The kicking game is also very well done...If you are not knowledgeable about Rugby, do not buy this game!!!

A solid videogaming experience and one that, for a relatively inexperienced American public, is well worth trying out. Die-hard fans of the sport will be a tad disappointed with a number of aspects.

The strategy gets quite deep, and the team play is totally engaging once you get the hand of it.

Once youve mastered the somewhat quirky camera zooms and the rules of the sport, EAs Rugby becomes an enjoyable experience. [Sept 2001, p.145]
GameSpot
A solid re-creation of the sport that delivers fast and responsive gameplay. While the graphics aren't on the same level as EA Sports' other PS2 titles, such as Madden and FIFA, the gameplay makes up for it.

"Rugby" lacks the typical gameplay bells and whistles that have become commonplace in EA Sports' line-up of sims. No Create-A-Player mode, no Season mode, no statistical tracking of teams and/or players, etc.

Starting with the graphics, they are mediocre at best. Poor polygon models, and inferior animation first strike the eyes as less than awe-inspiring.

Dougie B. gave it an 8:
I think that it is a very exciting game and i can't wait till the next 1 comes out.
Nathan T. gave it an 8:
The game is alright> the bad points i would say are: lack of game modes witch makes it a bit boaring for some users. The graphics look really bad. Not a good game for people who don't know the rules to rugby. Good points would be: It's 1000 times better than rugby 2004. It fetures all of the teams and over 500 different players. People who are real rugby fans will enjoy this game over looking the poor grapics and lack of gaming modes. over all it's a pretty good game. This is a definite for rugby fans.
L. G. gave it a 6:
Not great, but, unfortunate as it may be, WAY better than Rugby 2004. Still a fun game to play for awhile, its moron AI and lack of modes will have you looking elsewhere pretty quickly, however. Not that there is elsewhere to look, given that Rugby 2004 is such a horribly disappointing release.
JOE J. gave it a 10:
Union is great.
Matthew M. gave it a 0:
The reason for the rating is i havent played this game but i learnt that it doesnt have super 12 n thats disappointing.I think a competition is much more forfilling. Also do the guy that said league sucks , buddy i know league international games arent as good but some are alright but league has a better comp and own origin kills your tests . if you watch a game of rugby for 2 minutes you see them kick it out about five times. ITS CRAP.
Richard H. gave it a 3:
Very, very disappointing. Im a huge rugby fan but there are some terrible aspects to the game - Intercepts all the time due to lob passes, Rucks ar impossible to win on a diffictult setting, in goal is HUGE! The list goes on! I think the next game needs to be more like 'Jonah Lomu Rugby' but with better graphics.
Jaycen A. gave it a 6:
Graphics could of been better, seem to lake the fun of Jonah Lomu rugby but the big disappointment...NO SUPER 12!!!!
