You'll enjoy the addictive, arcade-style gameplay from the original hit title, plus an added level of realism. Motor out onto breathtaking, real-life lakes that change to reflect the seasons, time of day, water temperature, weather, and wind. But don't get distracted, as there's intense action lurking just below the surface. Choose a character from a colorful cast of anglers, each with his own strengths and weaknesses and a whole lot of attitude. Then go head-to-head against your armchair angler buddy or a wily AI opponent in new split-screen competitions. What's more, the fish are even smarter this time around. Even with 100 lures and the freedom to cast anywhere, gamers will have to outwit the fish or lament the "one that got away." [Sega]

While not the deepest game around, there’s enough here to keep you engaged for weeks, especially in two-player mode.

Armchair Empire
A solid, if unremarkable, example of the weirdly successful genre.

The modes, over 100 unlockable lures, unlockable characters, and more realistic gameplay definitely make it a good fishing title.

A solid-playing game that simply doesn't look that great.

All in all, it's not a bad...catch (ouch).

PSX Nation
Deep-enough to pass itself as a sim but accessible-enough to be considered arcadey, Bass Fishing Duel manages to walk the fine line between both without alienating either camp.

The only groundbreaking things within this title are the mission-based challenges and the multiplayer games. Other than that, there's just not much new here.

This is one title most definitely targeted at a very specific niche audience. You know who you are.

Official U.S. Playstation Magazine
Makes an obvious effort to up the realism a bit - and the results, while not disastrous, are certainly underwhelming. [Nov 2002, p.190]

PSM Magazine
It's not the deepest fishing game, but if you're a serious fan, it's not a bad catch. [Nov 2002, p.54]

It’s a curious gaming experience, and strangely enjoyable, even if, like us, you haven’t got even the faintest interest in fishing.

Game Revolution
The Dreamcast fishing games came out much better, odd as it may sound, especially with the fishing controller and the native Naomi code instead of this haphazard port job.
