Summary
Earth has seen the collapse of the machine-controlled society and the return of humans to the surface of the planet. Explorers have uncovered a previously unknown mega-city that is well protected from scouting incursions. All attempts at penetrating the border have been met with destruction as the line literally goes silent. Once again the call goes out to the Ravens, mercenaries hired by the government to break through the silent line and discover the truth behind the enigma. [Agetec]

Game Chronicles
Despite all these incremental improvements and new features not much has changed with the AC series. Silent Line: Armored Core looks and plays nearly the same as it did three years and two versions ago.

Mechanized simulation fans are going to go nuts with the freedom and myriad options that Silent Line offers its players. [Aug 2003, p.27]
Yahoo! Games
If the whole Japanese-mech scene is yours, however, it's a good bet that the Armored Core series will appeal, and that the numerous customization options will offer you more than the typical "expansion kit" could ever hope for.

If you loved "Armored Core 3," you're going to have a field day with this.

I'd most liken this title to Armored Core: Project Phantasma, as although most AC games have a small mystery going on in their backstory, this one is quite nasty, and well, like Phantasma.

The most interesting addition is the ability to create your own AI in Arena mode. [July 2003, p.107]
GamePro
Silent Line’s claim to fame is the new first-person view, which looks very cool but ups the practice requirements, too.

The visuals, sound and overall presentation may have remained mostly unchanged, but the 32 additional missions, coupled with more than 200 new parts makes this a must for the hardcore fans.

As solid as ever, but unlikely to win new converts, Silent Line: Armored Core preaches to the choir and no one else. [Aug 2003, p.71]
Cheat Code Central
Not all of the missions are more difficult than subsequent ones, but in general the game's level of difficulty does increase exponentially when amortized over the 30-plus missions.
Official U.S. Playstation Magazine
It has a bunch of new mech parts and a few new knickknakcs, but this is essentially "Armored Core 3" with different levels. [July 2003, p.95]
Gaming Illustrated
The innumerable customization options are enjoyable enough, but the overly difficult game play and poor controls keep the game from being much fun for casual mech fans or anyone new to the series.

A solid addition to the Armored Core series with its bevy of cool new options and upgrades, but it still only caters to those well-versed in the esoteric world of AC geekdom.

Silent Line has made me a partial believer; if they'd simplified the controls some, I'd be completely sold. [Aug 2003, p.113]
PSX Nation
An acquired taste of mechanized action warfare that thrives on narrowcasting its offerings to the select few that buy every installment, Silent Line is ultimately more bark (i.e. rental worth) than bite (i.e. purchase consideration).

If you're willing to overlook the clumsy controls and the dated look, then Silent Line might be worth your while, but otherwise, there are much better giant-robot games on the market.

The game's difficulty curve is totally thrown off balance. I can only assume the intent was to provide a greater challenge than player-friendly Armored Core 3, and not outright sadism.
The effort in style and ideas are evident, but working on the same engine, and just building on it just doesn’t do the series justice. Give the game a face-lift please.

Not that the missions in this game aren't good - they're just hampered by a control scheme that needs to be more intuitive. [Aug 2003, p.36]
Computer and Video Games
Newcomers tempted by the budget price will be put off for life right away by the horrendous controls and vertical learning curve, while fans of the series will struggle to spot the visual and gameplay differences between this and "Armored Core 3." [PSW]

Though this game is really awesome, there are a few things it needs before becoming perfect. Things like better and more respnsive controlls, but it may be too late for that because the origonal controlls are now seated deeply in the player's mind already. However, this game is not only much more expansive but also much more detailed when it comes to your personal AC. Graphics need a little shoe shining but the missions need a buffer or something similar. The one thing, however, that would make this game really worth it would be online multiplayer. pther than that, its a great and fun game. Still no Zone of the Enders... but still good!

This game is the best. the graphics in the game are just jaw dropping. the 32 missions keep you in the game and the all new ai arena is awesome. the best mech fighting ive ever played next to Z.O.E the 2nd runner.
David (Aromored Fist)/(Untouchable) T-man gave it a 10:
This game is great! Anyone who says differently is not a AC Pilot worth facing in versus. The new part and quirky new general tactic among the arena opponents is made for a brand new experience. I didn't know you could target parts of an AC until Dark Ravens Response and that is killer, literally. Gotta find out how to do it, though.(doesn't say in the manual). I started on AC3 and since I first played the game, I have been recomending it to a lot of people. The AI is not bad and my bro actually got one so good, he couldn't beat it! The controls aren't all that bad in the AC games. They may be a little restricting, but after playing you get used to it. One tip to newbies; don't get too confiedent in yours skills or you will be decimated. Happened to me after not playing for a while. Anyone who like control or a selection should get the game. I end my rant with this valued proverb of mine "kill, kill, kill and go insane, but too much and the failed misssion will be your blame". For now, Dktpaintballs@aol.com P.S. For any other hardcore vets of AC battles, use my email to get in touch. We'll chat :-)

This game truly is great. You have great control, nice graphics, and tons of ass stomping. My one problem, the comp. is to easy. At my level I can use a crap suit and still be rather unhitable. But other than that, I LOVE THIS GAME!
Eddy gave it a 10:
The best.
