GamePro

For the most part, though, Spyro is a graphics bonanza with blasts of color and eye-catching nuances, such as rippling water, glowing flames, and shimmering portals.

While there are a few tweaks, this is essentially the same game as the previous three.

Looks good and sounds great, but Enter the Dragonfly lacks depth of play. It is a safe arcade-adventure outing.

The graphics are nothing to be proud of, as they seem very similar to what we were presented with on the PS one not too long ago, and nothing in terms of the gameplay or style has changed a bit or improved upon in any way shape or form.

All in all, the game felt more like a task I had to complete rather than something to be enjoyed.

Gameplay just hasn't changed enough. You feel like you're playing a throwback, or a golden oldie, not a new release.

Official U.S. Playstation Magazine

More of the same, but not quite as good, with crappy minigames and a framerate that's more offensive than calling your political foe a putzhead. [Jan 2003, p.132]

PSM Magazine

Simply a decent been-there-done-that platformer. [Jan 2003, p.40]

Cheat Code Central

To get the most benefit from this game this should be your first Spyro game. To many diehard fans, it may be their last.

IGN

Only a slightly better than average platformer. Slightly. Up against games such as "Sly Cooper" and "Ratchet and Clank," it doesn't hold a candle.

Run, not walk, far away from this piece of junk. Do not buy this game at all costs or you will regret it. You have been warned.

GameSpy

An entirely average platform romp skewed for a dumbed-down audience that doesn't live up to expectations.

The gameplay is not very addictive and feels more of a farce than an enjoyable adventure game.

Gamers' Temple

There really isn’t anything that separates it from other Spyro games. Actually in a lot of ways the PS1 games are much more enjoyable and original.

Game Over Online

Having been developed by Check Six Games this time around (since Spyro's original developers, Insomniac, left to pursue other interests), Spyro: Enter the Dragonfly, complete with N64 graphics, Carrot Top-caliber annoying sounds, and gameplay that's more bland than a sandwich without mayonnaise, is quite simply craptacular.

Control-wise, I hate the slippery, jittery interaction between character and camera. [Jan 2003, p.52]

G4 TV

Check Six Studios has clearly designed this installment of the Spyro franchise for very young gamers, and with that demographic, the title works well. Unfortunately, this limited scope will bore anyone familiar with other platforming titles.

Play Magazine

Feels flat and recycled, a perfunctory exercise to suck in the remaining loyalists. [Dec 2002, p.86]

28

GameSpot

A train wreck of a game that has no direction, no technical merit, and little appeal except as a game design house of horrors and a showcase for some good music by Stewart Copeland.

squirrel gave it an8:
I love this game but it could of been way better. the game was origanally going contain 25 levels but universal forced check6 to rush it and it ended up with nine levels and it was glitchy. it made me sad. its all universals fault. if they didnt force them to rush it it would probly be better then spyro 1 2 and 3 i still like the game. I am just mad at universal for forcing check6 to rush it.

Fraser W gave it a5:
It was really disappointing. This game had potential to be a decent entry to the series but due to it being rushed for release it came out all wrong. First of, there are only 9 levels to visit and only 1 boss. From this you know it has been rushed. There was apparently 25 levels supposed to be featured in this game. The gameplay is sluggish and slow. Spyro moves at a snails pace and the enemies aren't any quicker. There are alot of gltches too and let's not forget the long loading times. There are some good points to the game. It still manages to have the Spyro feel to it like the previous titles. The soundtrack is great by Stewart Copeland. The level design is pretty good, it's just a shame there are few of them.

Kenny J. gave it a1:
This is what made me seriously look into a game before I buy it. I purchased this when I was young, using the 50 bucks that I got for my birthday. When I played it, I was utterly disgusted, and supremely PO'ed. I absolutely loved the PS1 Spyro games, so I thought "Another Spryro game with PS2 graphics, sweet!". But, without my knowledge, top-knotch game developer Insomniac sold the Spyro franchise rights to profit-hungry Universal. The result was a game that barely tied in with the originals, had gameplay that wasn't even as good as Spyro 1, a horrible plot, and very short in comparison to the first 3. Looking back at it, I'm suprized I wasn't seriously mentally scarred by playing this game. After staring blankly at the screen for a half hour after completing the game, I broke the disk in 2 and tossed it in the trash. Most people will have more fun burning a 50 dollar bill than playing this game.

Jonathan J. gave it a0:
i used to love spyro for Ps1 but this is not spyro this is horrible some of the worst games beat this by a longshot. DISGRACE

Zachery gave it a0:
Sucks But i love the other 123 games of spyro.

April Butte gave it a0:
Horrible load times, freezes up in key areas making you replay and this is what is good about it! This is not the Spyro we know...it is a crappy Spyro. A spyro for profit not fun...dont buy! Dont play !

Beth R. gave it a10:
It realy rocks.
