Summary
The galaxy is in turmoil as the events of Star Wars: Episode II rapidly approach. Mace Windu dispatches one of the Council's top Jedi - Adi Gallia - to investigate disturbances in the Karthakk system, as a secessionist movement threatens to expand. Using the Republic's new prototype Jedi starfighter, Adi Gallia sets out on missions which lead into events depicted in the Star Wars: Episode II film. She quickly gains an upper hand in space battles through Force powers, but will these be enough to counter the massive fleet of the evil Captain Toth and a mysterious figure that threatens the very foundations of the Galactic Republic system? An awesome package of gameplay, sound, and story to improve greatly on an already attractive package. Bravo LucasArts, bravo indeed.

This would be considered a mission-pack add on in the PC world, but for fans of the series, it's a great new game with additional elements that enhance an old, but stable, gaming engine.

The Jedi Starfighter is quick, but only has lasers. But...you can use the Force against enemy ships. Without a doubt, this is the big draw, and it's way cool.

The excellent reward system almost makes up for strange feeling of deja vu, and the two-player mini-games are better polished than last year, but you won't find anything terribly new in Jedi Starfighter.

The game gives you nothing new beyond the usual attack or defend missions but it is still just as enjoyable as the original.

This is a must have for any Star Wars fan and those who enjoy space simulators.

A blast to play, even in extended sessions thanks to a good story baseline, plenty of simple pick-up-and-play gameplay elements, and a control scheme thats as intuitive as it is fluid.

"Rogue Leader" looked fantastic, but Jedi Starfighter outperforms it with ease. [Apr 2002, p.71]

The force has returned to the PlayStation 2, but the outcome could have been stronger.

Almost as interesting as the Force powers is the skill it takes to use them effectively.

Better than the original in every way. It even manages to trump the GameCube triumph, "Rogue Leader," in at least one key way as well -- it has a cooperative play mode.

The added force powers are handy, but they dont dramatically change the way the game is played.

The missions are clear-cut and better structured than "Rogue Leader"'s, and thanks to plenty of topographic embience - drop dead gorgeous to behold. [May 2002, p.46]
Armchair Empire
Technically Jedi Starfighter is Starfighters recently paroled big brother, of the same gene pool yet just a little cooler.

Two player cooperative play is a big bonus, and hopefully will set a trend in future space-fighter games.

A very well executed and polished rehash of a formula that is in dire need of something new or unique to take the franchise to the next level.

While the gameplay is still overly derivative of games like "Colony Wars" and "Wing Commander," and doesn't quite capture the "Star Wars" feel in the same way the "Rogue Squadron" games do, it's a massive step in the right direction.

Aside from the shoddy graphics and the occasional twitch, Star Wars: Jedi Starfighter will manage to draw you right in with its engaging storyline, solid controls and plenty of extras (you got to love a game that offers a gag reel).

Enemy A.I. here might as well stand for "Artificial Idiocy." [May 2002, p.109]
Official U.S. Playstation Magazine
Seeing [the Force] used within the cockpit of a spaceship just doesn't give the desired effect. [May 2002, p.103]
GameSpot
While plenty good can be said about Star Wars: Jedi Starfighter, the often-bland visuals, sketchy frame rate, and somewhat frustrating targeting control ultimately hold Jedi Starfighter back from being a great game.

The Jedi powers, unfortunately, are pretty lame; they provide quite an underwhelming function, and do little to vary gameplay. [May 2002, p.27]

Hades gave it an 8:
Good, but not great. A fun game to play, but can get old. Two player could be better...no vertical screen split selection!? Bah...a minor complaint i suppose. Nice graphics in the game though, the framerate does suffer at times during ground missions though, which is unfortunate, but still, good stuff. The controls are great, i can't imagine a different setup than what is used as the default. Sound effects and music are typical star wars fare, the voice acting can get annoying at part (where you hear the same conversation over and over after failing a mission) but they could be worse. If you're a fan of space fighter sims or Star Wars i think that this game will please you.
Windu gave it a 7:
Overall this game is great. The graphics are cool, the ships are extremely fun to fly, and the storyline is better than most. As you beat levels and complete objectives you get awarded with a video or a new ship or something. But when you break it all down the game is just a short video. When you beat it it just sits somewhere collecting dust.
L. K. gave it a 10:
GREATEST EVER! STAR WARS FANS, IT IS A MUST!!!
