As a PS2 shooter it's the best I've ever played - I can't emphasize that point enough.

Whether it be blasting gun-toting monkeys or zombified idiots, Timesplitters 2 has awesome AI. I just cannot say enough about how well done the enemies are in the game.

It has the modes, the weapons, and the attitude to have hardcore FPS maniacs swimming in puddles of their own drool.

An FPS game that has a fun and effective two-player cooperative mode in the story, and a multiplayer mode that is the tops of anything on the market for console games, TS2 is the pinnacle for which FPS’s of the future will try to attain. Enough reading.

I haven't been sleeping much, because I can't put this game down...Easily one of the best first-person shooters out there - on any system. [Dec 2002, p.176]
Total Video Games
A true gamers game, there’s no storyline to worry about, no complex gameplay mechanics, just simple pure and unadulterated fun.

Zen-balanced succulent gameplay. Sublime in single-player, supreme with friends. [PSM2]

The most complete FPS we have ever seen. This is it. We have it now. We have a game that is as essential to your console happiness as a memory card, Dual Shock and big comfy armchair.

The big things presented here are no slowdown, nice graphics, co-op Story mode play, a good amount of single and multi-player options outside of the Story mode and a plethora of extras and cheats to obtain.

One of the more challenging titles in the genre with a difficulty that ramps up pretty quickly. [Nov 2002, p.36]

This game got more play on my machine then the Culkins at Neverland ranch.
Adrenaline Vault
The sequel is a complete game rather than just a multiplayer vehicle.

The multiplayer is a stroke of genius, destined to keep players coming back for more, long after the single-player has faded away from memory. Only the best type of gaming experience can do this.

This has to be one of the best titles that’s come out for every console this year.

Edges out "Red Faction 2" just by a hair. "Red Faction"'s single player mode is much more intense but lacks the cooperative campaign mode that Timesplitters 2 did.

With an intriguing Story mode, addicting Arcade battles, and a Challenge mode that truly puts you to the test, it’s no secret that the key features that made "GoldenEye" such a hit leaked its way into the TimeSplitters world.

Easily the system's best multiplayer FPS, with a surprising amount of single-player action.

May very well be the best split-screen multiplayer-focused first-person shooter ever created.

Similar to the last outing [the story levels] may be tough to get through, but they are a bit on the short side.

A solid, great-looking game, just not the masterpiece I was hoping for. [Dec 2002, p.123]
Electronic Gaming Monthly
This is, without a doubt, the best first-person shooter you'll find on the PS2. [Dec 2002, p.224]
GameNow
One of the best multi-player experiences you'll find on the PS2. [Dec 2002, p.66]
Play Magazine
A basic first-person shooter with the action quotient set on full throttle, but everything about TimeSplitters 2 is handled skillfully and stylishly, pieced together with a scintillating polish. [Nov 2002, p.64]
GMR Magazine
Everything good about the original is here, with loads of new multiplayer options including maps, weapons, and game modes, too. [Feb 2003, p.80]
Armchair Empire
Will satisfy multiplayer junkies’ needs but will leave single player fanatics wanting more.

What it lacks in compelling story, it more than makes up for in gameplay and character, and that's really where it counts.

While the environments are beautiful, the hackneyed time-travel story line feels shoehorned into the experience... [which] ends up feeling a bit half-baked. [4 Oct 2002, p.158]

Huib H. gave it a10:
OMG It really boggles my mind how people can say this game sucks, the obvious reason is that they suck at it since future perfect does have a good score which is way easier. anyway great game, I will probably never has as much fun with any other game ever again, until timesplitters 4 comes out
Leslie L gave it a9:
It's an O.K game, but what I want in a game is more action, more good graphics, and more realistic things. This was a blast from the 1st game, and the series will leave you wanting more, get the entire series!
William F gave it a10:
Loved this game. The variety of game modes and characters in arcade mode mean your never short of fast paced shooting action. I admit that story mode isn't this games strong point but this FPS is a rare gaming experience.
DSSS91 gave it a10:
This is NOT an overated game. It is by far the best FPS for Multiplayer on the PS2. A remake is being made in HD with improved visuals and online functionality, but only if Free Radical get enough E-MAILs. So send your mails to with the Subject "Splitters HD"
Mike K. gave it a10:
This game has a fairly good and very challenging story mode, but the multiplayer modes is where it REALLY shines. I have spent 87 hours playing this game either alone or with my friends. The story is 2 player co-op, which is more fun and inventive than singleplayer, and the up to 4 player splitscreen is a must for parties with a large group of friends. The arcade mode and mapmaker will always have you coming back for more. An absolute must-have.
Klaus W. gave it a10:
Compared to other Pc FPS like Far Cry and F.E.A.R Timesplitters 2 may as well deserve a 8 or 7 but considering it that it's on ps2 and was made a long time ago it does deserve a 10. The gameplay is good it's really varied and the character skins actually affect you and there not just for show makes the game awsome. This game is way cooler than Battlefield 2 on ps2 beacause it has offline multiplayer up to 4 people and Battlefield 2 on ps2 doesn't. Instead of wasting you'r time reading this just buy this now for less than 25.00 dollars.
April B. gave it a3:
Story mode horrible. Dont expect a DOOM or Quake or Half LIfe experience. The first level will leave you so frustrated you will hate the rest of the levels. Why? There is no save ability and you will have to play it over and over and over and over and over....boring WITH A CAPITAL B! The ability for multiplayer seems to be the reason for the higher scores but I hate playing multiplayer on shooters so ... this game sucks!!!
